It just amazes me how he's still so popular and beloved. How come he never fell into obscurity like countless other 90's anthromorphic video game characters?
More than half of his games are garbage, how does he do it?

Sonic has never had a million seller in Japan. Westerners are literally the only reason he wasn't dead and buried a long time ago.

Colors and Generations are honestly the only modern games with no glaring flaws and mania doesn't count as the fans know the games better then sega do.
Sonic should just be about going fast in open levels and they can't even do that right

Sonic 2 was the best selling Sega game, and the critical and financial sucess of Sonic Adventure 1/2 helped Sonic make it through to the 3D realm of games, although it hasn't gone well for him. Also, the majority of Sonic mainline games are fine.

Oh no MadMightyanon, the Mighty/Honey/Hooligan removal isnt because of Penders. It's because of Sega's new classic exclusivity rule. Classic characters and modern characters can no longer appear together.

Many Sonic games are not as good Mario games but Sonic characters have someone personality that you can get into then all Mario games combined. The fact that Sonic characters actually talks and express emotions and Mario doesn't is a huge part of why Sonic is still popular.

He could keep his 1000 knuckles ocs and I'd be fine, but scourge was such a cool character.
From what (admittedly little) I know of archie, Scourge was one of the few characters who could take Sonic down as quickly as sonic himself takes anyone else down.
