If the artstyle was like a mix of both eras more closely, keep Red's old design more, remade the music with a closer sound to the original tone on better hardware, and animated the sprites like in Emerald, it'd be superior at that point. But overall, it's still very serviceably a great rendition of Gen 1.

Emergent gameplay is a lot more fun.
Pokemon is very well suited for it too since who you'll run into and their stats are all randomized so if you just let it, you'll get a different team every time.

I like the simple style of Gens 1-3 Pokemon. You could make the characters less chibi then I'd like it. Something more like FF6 to go with the added detail. The MC sprite doesn't make it seem like it. Even Gen 4/5 had bastly more detailed sprites, but I'll admit I hate how they kept the massive head size instead of just op'd to do what later came to be when they went 3D. The classic chibi style worked because it fit the tile size itself. When it started getting too imbalanced (not to mention, combining sprites with 3D environments) it doesn't work. For a zoomer yeah, but not for a boomer like me. Simple is just better because it's more constant.

When I was a kid i had actually managed to catch a legit feebas. and back then feebas was probably the rarest pokemon and would be for a few gens so I managed to completely fill my gen 3 and 4 pokedex by trading one for literally anything. People would even give me their legendaries for one. Even now I can ask for pretty much anything on the gts if i'm giving up a feebas.

yeah, they also have pikachu being an asshole until you save him from the spearow attack, you steal and fuck up misty's bike, and pikachu refuses to fight misty. there's some jank at times, but it's a really well made hack that's perfect for nostalgiafags

nothing as far as I can tell. it railroads you into some certain things, like you have to pick up charmander and squirtle (although it's easy to miss bulbasaur), but nothing happens if you immediately throw them into the pc and forget about them. I never bothered with a butterfree so I couldn't make the trade on the st anne or set him free at maiden's peak, but I was still able to progress just fine. I imagine it'd be a bit strange if you didn't run with your pikachu though since there is some dialogue about him from team rocket and lt surge

Just beat erika, which actually did have a major glitch. if you went to fight the trainers in the gym the game would crash, so I had to use a walk through walls cheat to bypass them and get straight to erika. looking online that seems to be a common problem for the latest version of the hack, and sadly it's no longer in development

Yes it's stupid. I've had a playthrough just get fucking murdered cause i got a ton of over powered pokemon super early. They try to even it out by making it the same level of pokemon you traded but you'll still get shit like a lvl 10 scizor or a lvl 16 alakazam
