Anyone else love the IDEA of a game but not the actual game?
Like Pokemon has huge potential with discovering/seeing animals interact/actually raising them and having an unique team but it feels it didn't evolve within the last 10 years while other franchises literally run LEAPS around it
Makes me think, why would you play a certain game if it didn't evolve, just cause you liked it in the past? It's literally just nostalgia for me anymore.. I know it but I can't even fight it
>Anyone else love the IDEA of a game but not the actual game?
I boguht Morphies Law last week because the concept to me looked amazing, but the game is unplayable since nobody is ever online
Bentley Nguyen
>Console shooter with no splitscreen This is all it needed to be worth buying, I'd get it too if I could play with some friends locally without them all needing their own console and copy of the game. Really cool idea and it looks fun, but sounds like its completely dead already and without splitscreen I see little reason to ever buy it.
Jaxon Gutierrez
>while other franchises literally run LEAPS around it Such as?
I don't think there are too many competitive, multiplayer turn-based RPGs about monster collecting and team-building.
Pokemon is certainly fairly stagnant right now but there's really nothing else like it.
Liam Stewart
Pokemon should be on mobile. Putting them on a home console makes 0 sense.
Robert Hughes
>Morphies Law game looks good actually but it being dead turned me off already
sorry, i didn't mean the same exact game type. i meant other franchises, shooters/open world games that keep innovating, although they were just as barebones as pokemon back in the days (simply cause tech was limited). you can take one look at mario odyssey, botw, or any PC/PS4/XBOX franchise thats been alive since at least a decade
i feel like back in the day they got away with not showing a beautiful world/interaction with monsters etc cause of the tech limits, every kid basically imagined in their head how they rode on their charizard or shit. now they got the tech but they dont innovate anything
Luis Myers
>Switch >home console holy kek
Christopher Ortiz
I think what OP meant was other video game franchises starting off one way and branching off or just adding piles of features that evolve a franchise with each sequel. In comparison, Pokemon undergoes much slower changes.
Jeremiah Perry
I wish Pokémon had at least one game that would get rid of all of the hinderances to get a functional Pokémon for Online Battling, and if necessary, tutorialize some basics of Battling, like the importance of entry hazards in a 6v6/Singles environment, the different playstyles, the means of winning more easily for each, and so on. I think a lot of people would enjoy it, since even despite shaky viability, we've reached over 300+ fully evolved Pokémon.
Asher King
thank you, that is what i meant
its my favorite franchise but it doesn't really progress. it adds new pokemon and a new region but everything else is barebones that could be QOL changes basically.
letting the animals interact in the open world/having actual information/lore abou tthem would be interesting. right now all they have is a pokedex entry that is inaccurate most of the time... so basically they have nothing
Parker Jenkins
yea, having actually challenging battles would be needed for that though. right now you can just power level your starter and 1man the entire game... although strategy would probably scare away the casual playerbase
they need to put more/time effort just once and stop the yearly release/hire more people so the pokemon can get unique battle animations and over world animations and interaction. also real wiki entries to learn about them. they could reuse all the animations and entries in the games for the next 50 years
Aaron Thomas
>shooters/open world games that keep innovating I disagree on shooters, they're not innovating much at all unless you'd call cutting features like local multiplayer and becoming treadmills for loot crates innovation
Andrew Gonzalez
I think your text is absolutely random and you are just trying to stir up discussion by posting the image.
Mason Nelson
>right now you can just power level your starter and 1man the entire game This was actually a lot easier to do in the older games, Nidoking or Blastoise could carry you through the whole of RBG much more easily than any single starter or early-game Pokemon would in the newest games.
Michael Morgan
>Anyone else love the IDEA of a game but not the actual game? Yeah, happens a lot.
>Subnautica Underwater exploration sandbox where you build your own bases, even set up containments for various wild-life etc...? Sounds fucking amazing. Except it does not deliver on any of it.
>Stronghold Setting up castles and fighting sieges, plus a complex chained production and incredibly comfy art direction? Cool. Shame it kinda plays like shit, and the castle construction is actually INCREDIBLY restrictive, plus the castlebuilding and economy do not jell together well at all.
>Space Engineers Just about everything about this game is a fantastic idea, TERRIBLE execution.
>We Happy Few Pathologic except with more stealth and Orvellian dystopia instead of Russian, plus the whole drug thing... how did they manage to screw that idea up so fucking hard?!
Also: Most management and city-building games.
Xavier Allen
Well it failed, should have just posted mallow smut
Liam White
>Anyone else love the IDEA of a game but not the actual game?
Vanquish.
What I thought it was: Super fast paced awesome runny gunny shooting action
What it actually plays like: Gears of War with a few gimmicks
Pokemon is the ultimate kids game. It doesn't change so every generation of kids can have the same experience. It's a childhood experience you can share with your younger relatives and children despite the age gap. The only 'problem' with pokemon is that adults keep playing it.
Wyatt Rodriguez
That nigga's got a nice ass
Cameron Bailey
yea but dude, thats exactly what i mean... like i accept flaws in the past games cause it was still the beginning/ a lot to learn/technolgy etc but nowadays something like that shouldnt happen and thats just one of many flaws
Joshua Evans
Pokemon needs more male lewds with females still in the picture. Or both of them bring lewd
Jackson Russell
I don't get it, what is that pokemon up there have to do with the image?
BW had exp scale based on the level of your Pokemon and the level of the Pokemon it KO'd and no one liked it
Scaling is really the only way to prevent it and fuck scaling
Caleb Jones
>Hey, a thread about good ideas but poor execution in videogames! >Everyone talks about the fucking pokemon games for little children even though there is an entire fucking BOARD for Pokemon.
Gavin Brooks
>even though there is an entire fucking BOARD for Pokemon Pokemon is a video game
>MMOs have the potential to be fully realized worlds where players and NPCs greatly impact an ever-evolving world, economies are formed based on item rarity meaning that all players have something to work towards, communities based on character race/faction/class make you feel more involved as a player >in the end the NPCs mindlessly stand around dumping text and loot >combat is ALWAYS shallow as fuck >animations are noticeably compromised due to the amount of players are on screen at any given time I'm also bitter because I simply don't have the time that MMOs demand you to play before you can reach the "good stuff".
