Think dark souls level design, half Ninja Gaiden speed combat, light stealth, and a greater focus on parrying like Metal Gear Rising.

Phase two isn't too much worse than phase one. I'd recommend more aggression, so he doesn't bow spam as much. Only back away if your poise is about to break. Also his jump into thrust can now be an unblockable sweep so don't automatically try to mikiri when he does it in phase two. If you see it in time and just jump you can get three free hits in.

I was stuck as fuck on him too. Then i just put the game down and picked it up the following day and beat it after 4 trys. Sleep on it. Also youtube some tip videos it helps.
