Is there ever going to be a Galaxy 3? Why did they just stop making the Galaxy games anyways?

No bullsht, it's Miyamoto. That stupid bucktooth chink always fucks up the franchises and shelves good ideas that they did.
Miyamoto was responsible for the gravity gimmick, dumbass. He cited a major inspiration from old Japanese TV shows that used camera tricks to depict the characters walking on walls and ceilings. Anyway, the series was fine to stop when it did. SMG2 was already nothing but an actual expansion to the first game that they added enough content inside to constitute a new game.
Galaxy was never intended to be a series.
They had some unrealised ideas, saw potential remaining in the Galaxy engine, and made what they could by reusing many of the assets.
This is like asking "Why did they just stop making N64 Zelda games after Majora's Mask"? Because a new system was out/about to come out and they wanted to do something new with the more powerful technology.
>make mario game
>it sells insane numbers
>make direct sequel
>it sells literally half
nintendo got redpilled on the brain of the average consumer. It's why they won't rerelease the old 3D marios. They're scared retards won't buy a new mario they put out.
Reminder that Miyamoto is a fucking hack that ruined Mario games by saying they should never have a story. And was responsible for SS being as linear as it was
They shouldnt, and never should be the focus
>mario is ruined
okay I'll bite. why?
>because no story
jesus christ. have sex
Nah fuck him. He ruined Paper Mario.
This
> Gross Revenue for 3D Marios
Super Mario 64 (2.7 Billion)
Super Mario Sunshine (493 Million)
Super Mario Galaxy (1.1 Billion)
Super Mario Galaxy 2 (637 Million)
Super Mario 3D Land (664 Million)
Super Mario 3D World (525 Million)
Super Mario Odyssey (651 Million)
Miyamoto was responsible for the impressionistic art direction, an "image of a figure proudly holding a sword towards the sky" that the team implemented as the skyward strike, and giving the usual Q-A supervision where he approved a version of the game that was actually harder than what got released and that he didn't know got nerfed until the game was already finished and out.
Did he have any say in BOTW?
not just mario; they literally ninja'd the plot to LA in behind his back.
why the hell is odyssey so low? I am a bitter jaded faggot who hates everything and I found it hard to be mad while I played that game
I love 3D World and think it's peak 3D Mario.
But I'm FURIOUS that didn't make a Super Mario Universe while having a console out called the the Wii U.
HOW FUCKING STUPID.
a Galaxy sequel is inherently a bad thing because outside of swimming, the movement of Galaxy is fucking years behind the other 3D Marios. It has no depth, its slow, its not fun to get good at. I'll agree that the Galaxy games easily have the strongest & most consistent level design in 3D Mario history, but its fucking ruined when the game is so unbearably slow.
Odissey>Galaxy
motion control sucks.
because they had so many extra levels after the first game they decdied to go full new sequel. They ran out of levels and decided to move on.
because what we need is more edgy nu-Sonic plots, am I right?
2 happened because they had enough leftover ideas from 1 to cobble a second game together. Galaxy's my 3D Mario of choice but there was zero obligation to make a second in the first place, let alone a third.
it's because of the installbase. the Wii sold over a hundred million consoles while the Switch is around a third of that. even though more than two-thirds of Wii users were casual normalfags who only liked Wii Sports, many of them surely bought a copy of Super Mario Galaxy simply because it was the big Mario game on the console. this is why Galaxy sold so many copies compared to the 3d games released before and after it. anyhow, you have to give Odyssey credit for selling half as much as Galaxy while being exclusive to a system that's sold a third as much
>tfw tried mario 64 as a kid and for some reason didn't like it
>skipped all mario's since then
>over christmas at home from school
>little sister asks me for help in mario odyssey
>help her through the obstacle she's stuck on
>wait for her to go to bed then play mario odyssey all fucking night because I got addicted from playing for like 10 minutes
at last I truly see the light.
why did I skip all those childhood kino games REEEE
oh and this is Yea Forums so I sexed her and what not and she ate my ass
>anyhow, you have to give Odyssey credit for selling half as much as Galaxy
Except Odyssey has not only sold as much as Galaxy but at this point has even slightly outsold it. Wikipedia has sales of Galaxy at 12.78mil lifetime against Odyssey's 13.76 mil up through December 2018.
yeah but video games make less money now. and that's what really matters.
Yes, he's basiclally God at Nintendo & every 3D Triforce game (Metroid, Mario, Zelda) is run by him
That literally means nothing relative to the words I greentexted. You said Odyssey sold less, not made less money.
this. anyone who says Galaxy is the greatest 3d Mario game hasn't played it in the last half-decade or so. the movement and platforming is as slow as molasses, and you even lose the dive from the previous games. the new spin was just an excuse to incorporate motion controls and never did anything that wasn't possible before. admittedly, the starbit collecting mechanic was a phenomenal use of the sensor bar, but it served no important purpose. Galaxy had a great setting, good level design, beautiful visual design, boatloads of creativity, and especially an amazing soundtrack, but the actual movement is so boring that it almost cancels out all of the game's strengths. if the game was remastered with faster platforming and movement in mind, it would actually be the best 3d Mario game of all time. as it stands, however, I'd hesitate to rank it above Sunshine
People who call Galaxy the best 3D Mario simply value level design more than movement options. Either that or they REALLY like the gravity element.
that other guy who responded to you was not me. anyhow, I was just working off of the figures that other user provided. if it's true that Odyssey outsold even Galaxy despite being released on a drastically less popular system, that truly is a testament to its comparative quality
Or just the Switch's momentum as a whole, which is currently outpacing Wii. But Nintendo's first party stuff in general has been doing record breaking sales for their respective franchises on Switch, not just 3D Mario. The same could be said for stuff like Breath of the Wild or Mario Kart 8, the former already being the best selling Zelda of all time and the latter possibly on pace to outsell MKWii in the long term. It's not just Odyssey that's doing crazy well.
Mario 64 is King. Oddessy is a gimmicky, soulless , bloated mess
They're almost the same fucking thing at heart except Odyssey took a cue from Banjo-Kazooie and doesn't boot you out of the stage after getting a moon.
good level design means nothing if it's not fun to actually move through the level. for a platformer to be the best, it needs to have good movement AND great design. a platformer with good design but bad movement is like a book with a great story but the whole thing is shittily written so you have to endure spelling and grammar errors the whole way through. you wouldn't declare such a book to be the best of the series despite the other books in the series aren't nearly as painful to read. it wouldn't matter how much you love a good storyline with foreshadowing and twists, you just can't enjoy it as much as you would if it was proper written. this is why Galaxy is not the best in the series: just like how the proper usage of words team up with good ideas to create a good book, good movement and the level design to make use of it team up to create a good platformer. you cannot have a good platformer if you're missing one of those two qualities, and you certainly can't have the best
Galaxy has adequate movement in its own right, it's just not 64/Sunshine/Odyssey diverse. It operates on its own terms as a competent platformer just fine.
well besides the Switch's general momentum, it also doesn't hurt that BotW and MK8 are both legitimately good games, with the former being a successful testing of the open-world genre and the later being a straight improvement of the Mario Kart formula that we all know and love
>Can triple jump in midair
>Enemy possession gimmick
>20 NPCs in each level you need to talk to
>Same thing
Oh wow, a couple of new mechanics to keep the thing from being a wholesale rehash. And 64 had NPCs you talked to as well.
'adequate' is not enough to be the best in the series. perhaps I was spoiled by Sunshine and Odyssey and have too high standards, but even the untrained eye can see that the movement options in those games (various FLUDD nozzles, diving, sliding, rolling, Cappy transformations, Cappy bounces) set them far ahead from Galaxy, whose best movement options are simple jumps available in every 3d Mario or the flying powerup that lasts about a minute, much like the Wing Cap. Galaxy has adequate movement in the sense that you can walk and jump around without issues, but a good platformer needs better than adequate movement, and obviously the best platformer would need movement even better than that of a good one. although of course the best 3d Mario game is a completely subjective title, I still maintain for these reasons that Galaxy is certainly not the best one
I get what you're saying 100%, I just don't value movement to nearly the same degree as you. Besides, Galaxy still has shit like triple hops, long jumps, wall kicks and side jumps. And then there's its unique elements with the spin for extra verticality options and the general planetary physics fuckery that can impact the gravity and trajectory of Mario's jumps. Galaxy absolutely has its tricks, they're just a smaller bag in terms of sheer number than the more playground-design 3D Marios.
>no hub world, extremely linear
>no proper mission structure
>Stars are actually fun and varied unlike the chore of Moons planting seeds and ground pounding a million spots on the floor
>Faster and more precise movement in 64, Odyssey is slower than molasses
>Maps in 64 are better designed and have more shit to do in them not to mention more in number than Söydessy's shit tier excuses for kingdoms (Some are even glorified boss arenas with jackshit to do in them)
>Mario Land
>Wario Land
>Mario World
>Wario World
>Mario Galaxy
he's coming
This is pretty easily correct. Galaxy 2 is actually the better Galaxy, but its already pretty derivative. There's likely not a lot they could do with a 3 that would separate it enough to justify the game.
Oddessy kinda blew the Galaxy games out of the water, theres no point now
hopefully not. never want to see galaxy shit again
>why did they just stop
why did the stop 64 or sunshine or 3d world. what a dumb question.
He seems extremely set in his outdated ways. Hes obssesed with the series saying "on model" as it were. Its why you never see variety in the spin offs anymore, he doesnt have the power to stop them but they "respect his advice", its why Paper Mario is shit now.
Apparently Odyssey being so different really annoyed him, and he even yelled at them to change the ending proposal/rejection cause he wants Mario to stay platonic and safe. Glad they finally had the balls not to listen to him
Galaxy 1 and 2 were outsold by New Super Mario Bros. Wii. Literally the two of them together were outsold by NSMBW.
Let me guess: you're a Paper Mario fag?
they wanted to try something else i guess so they did 3d world etc. i'd be very surprised if they didn't an odyssey 2 like they did with galaxy especially since there was no DLC honestly
also willing to bet this will never be come to switch because nintendo hates porting anything ever regardless of they stupid amount of money it'd make them, same goes for zelda or pokemon games on switch
Anyone with half a brain knows it's tanabe's fault
>>Stars are actually fun and varied unlike the chore of Moons planting seeds and ground pounding a million spots on the floor
>Faster and more precise movement in 64, Odyssey is slower than molasses
>Maps in 64 are better designed and have more shit to do in them not to mention more in number than Söydessy's shit tier excuses for kingdoms (Some are even glorified boss arenas with jackshit to do in them)
If you need to lie to make your game look good, it probably isn't
>ugh I hate miyamoto he makes them make the games so boring and same-y
>ugh I hate miyamoto he won't make endless sequels
there exists such a thing as a balance
>as it stands, however, I'd hesitate to rank it above Sunshine
Fuck you. Fuck this glitchy ass shit, that back then, people rightfully called out because I was there to hear the complains, which was the fucking driving point we ended up getting the NSMB series. I'll give you that Wiimotion controls sucks massive ogre dick but Galaxy's vastly better than the first 2 3D Marios, fuck off saying otherwise. Odyssey is a gameplay wise, better designed Mario outside of the Cappy transformations. 3D World is what 2Dfags cry about when Sunshines fluddless sections and SMG2 as a whole gets pandered to them, so just mash both 3D World and Odyssey together already and there's the best Mario game of all time design wise, with Galaxy as the most charming on out of the series so far.
