What was it like the first time you played DS2? how dissapointed were you in comparison to DS1?
Your first DS2 experience?
Absolutely terrible. Never want to touch that piece of shit ever again.
I was extremely hype and brought game on premiere. It might sound weird but i absolutely loved this game. Slaying noobs with my full shadow set and black katana.. good memories.
I was fine with it. Liked it just as much as DS1.
Honestly I had a blast playing it coop with a friend. Also we never cared about the bullshit mechanics and the ''artificial difficulty'' because it made the game more fun for us maybe?
I had fun. It's a much better game than DaS1.
Scholar of the first sin was my entry point back in 2015. Didn't understand a fucking thing about it or what I was supposed to do so I stopped playing after I was stuck on the rotten. I came back 6 months later before dark souls 3 came out and started a new game and finished it eventually. Turns out I made it through the game up until the rotten with a +3 hand axe and 4 un-upgraded estus on my first character.
Every other from game i've played has felt 10x better because of this.
I was relieved that I could dodge in the diagonals
Extremely disappointed. I don’t think I even made it to a boss because the graphics were so disgusting I couldn’t stand to play it
first playthrough I felt disappointed. this is honestly how I feel about every from game after Ds1 though
every playthrough after I played co-op and SOTFS version and found it much more enjoyable and is easily the best co-op souls in the series
It was really good and I really enjoyed the more "fairytale" vibe of its setting.
Bought it on release, had DeS and DkS behind my back. Liked it in the beginning, had some doubts about fairness of some of the bosses in the middle, really started to dislike it at Shrine of Amana. The last quarter of the game is irredeemable. Gave a shot to Scholar edition two years later, it was still terrible, even the hailed DLCs.
Sekiro surely scratched that Dark Souls 2 itch I never had.
I remember being really disappointed with the level design, but I still liked it. Definitely the worst souls game though
I played Ds 2 in order and i fucking loved it. Thought i was going to hate because you act like it sucks so much its a meme. Really good game. Better than ds3. Ds 2 is the only one i like replaying
this, it just looks garbage. I have tried to get into it multiple times but I always drop it because the visuals are just piss awful, trash looking characters, ugly colors, overall obnoxious looking design that makes my brain hurt
you might be retarded.
you shouldn't need a guide to tell you you should upgrade a weapon in a video game
I was put off by how much parry/riposte had changed, I still think ti was one of the dumbest decisions in the game.
Otherwise I liked the environements, and the world design, despite being crazy, was diverse and interesting, and I thoroughly enjoyed playing a quality build.
I was frustrated until I reroled when I realized the value of AGI and I enjoyed myself. That game melted my hours away.
Nah I shredded through it once I understood how the game worked. I'd just say that ds2 was a bad entry point for me
I played DS1 for like 10 mins never touched it friend made me buy DS2 and i 100% that shit. Went back to DS1 fell in love with it and now DS2 is just meh. Funny how that works.
Never bought a souls game again after playing this.
I was extremely put off by the way the game controlled and died a fuckload in Heide's Tower of Flame, which was a pretty lame area outside of the visuals. Then I had more fun as I explored and found new weapons.
Overall I was unhappy with the boss roster but satisfied with the amount of new content, like weapons, covenants and other such stuff. It was only after reading into stuff like soul memory did I really get annoyed and disappointed.
meh
The user is right, being able to beat DaS2 doesn't mean you aren't retarded.
>xbox
The game released the same day my gf broke up with me, so it was a nice distraction.
never played it. looking at screenshots from the horrible, shit graphics, the shit style, bad design, broken lighting was enough.
>loved DaS3 and BB
>oh boy lets play DaS2 sotfs!
>Boy does this look like shit
>Why the fuck is every encounter a gankfest
>really this is the first boss compared to iundex gundyr or the Cleric Beast?
>WHY IS EVERYTHING SO FUCKING SLOW
>Dropped
Played it on Xbone when the SOTS first came out. Hit a brick wall in the pirate ship area.
Played again a month ago and the same thing happened but I just pushed through that tedious shit. Eventually finished it and found the rest of the game easy. Actually found every boss a piece of piss to solo. Nothing even as close as hard to O&S.
Found it visually boring, looked like half the areas weren't properly textures, boring areas in general and disappointing bosses.
Currently playing DS3 and it's a bit better, but it's never going to be 1. My main issue is fucking swamps. Hate them. As soon as I get a ring where water doesn't effect me though I think I'll cruise them as it's pretty easy.
I really like it but it's still the worst souls game
I was very disappointed. Dark Souls had done such a good job of building on DeS's precedent--I thought DS2 would be a sure thing. Its inferiority was nauseating.
>really this is the first boss compared to iundex gundyr or the Cleric Beast?
Who was that? I can't even remember. The Pursuer?
What was wrong with him? Iudex was an absolute piece of piss with like 1 attack.
The game was like a dream I didn't really know I had come true. The previews and demos looked extremely promising with the interesting light/dark mechanic and nice visuals. Naturally I was hyped to play it.
Unfortunately from the very beginning I could feel something was off, from the controls and movement to the visuals, level design and bosses.
I suppose I went through the phases of denial etc. but by the end (of a second playthrough at least) I had no doubt the game was inferior to its predecessor in almost every single way.
I must've had somewhat high hopes for the DLCs since I got them despite the letdown. I did also get the SOTFS edition which was for me basically a paid NG+.
These together cemented the fact that the game, although it did include some excellent pieces, was as a whole an utter disgrace to the series (starting from DeS).
Nowadays I'm indifferent towards DS2, and have immensely enjoyed the subsequent From games even with their flaws.
the movement, the parry, the rolling, the hitboxes, the blandness
at the half way point I stopped dying to bosses and stopped having fun
>really this is the first boss compared to iundex gundyr or the Cleric Beast?
there are like 10 different first bosses you can fight in DS2. Which one was it?
I wasn't disappointed, the game is much better than DS.
I wasn't. It's still the best game in trilogy and you need to throw a better bait, faggot.
Hitbox Earthquake is the canon tutorial boss
I don't think there is a ring like that, instead you can use the weapon art of any dagger to blaze through
Really? That's disappointing. There was definitely one that got rid of movement modifiers in DS1. I don't remember where you got it or what it was called though, maybe from killing Hydra?
I knew something was wrong quite early, by the janky hitboxes and controls. But being such a huge fan of Demon's and Dark Souls I let the game get away with it. I kept pushing aside my feelings of disappointment until I got to the Guardian Dragon boss, where I just had to face facts: this game fucking sucks.
To this day I don't understand why it controls like shit. Why couldn't they just use the same setup they had for the previous game?
Yeah there's one that you get from the undead asylum
any normal person fights pursuers first and he's a pretty neat gimmick. I actually fought dragon rider first. didn't even know about the forest of giants until I had already gone to bastille through no mans warf
I bought a used xbox one s from a friend and it included both dark souls 2 and 3 as well as others. Out of all the games included with it, the only one i sold was dark souls 2. The game feels nauseating, the level design and movement sucks, and the graphics really suck. Hub was comfy though but what a disappointment from ds1 and 3
Not as dissapointing when I played DS3. I don't even consider DS2 part of the series but DS3 was extremely shitty comapred to DS1.
People who just blindly hate DS2 or ignore it are not true DS fans. Just a friendly reminder.
The last giant that piece of shit ps2 model looking pushover you fucks
This. DS2 is so fundementally broken it doesn't even bother me that much but the fact that Miyazaki came back for DS3 and that was the end product was just extremely disappointing.
ds2 was uninspired for aping generic fantasy tropes, but ds3 just ripped off shit from ds1 and bloodborne. It added nothing new and the only good thing I remember from it was its armor looking better than it did in the other games
Me to, DS2 still has a lot of stupid annoying shit like awful hitboxes just to name one, but the areas actually felt diverse and different from each other unlike DS3's level design. I thought the armor in DS2 was some of the ugliest though, I can't put my finger on it but anything you wear in DS2 just looks bad.
I liked it but the game felt padded and too long while areas were either too small or too big.
I hated Drangleic Castle because the place felt so empty and nothing like Undead Burg. Then I loved the castle turned into experiment lab feel of Aldia's Keep just to be 3 rooms and a corridor.
DS3 was only "dissapointing" because it wasn't your first souls, i played 3 first and i absolutely loved it, much more than 1 and 2. The only real problem is that its linear as fuck
>People in this thread actually hating on DS2
Neo-Yea Forums everyone.
>played Demon Souls
>played Dark Souls
>didn't play anything else cause it's all downhill from there
I don't understand how people can say Souls 3 is shit. First of all the gameplay is really smooth, and the bosses and levels are fantastic for the most part.
Over time it went from:
>YAYYYYYY NEW DARK SOULS
>THIS IS A BIT BORING DESU
>BLAH LET'S GO PLAY DARK SOULS 1 AGAIN
to DLCs coming out:
>YAYYYYY NEW CONTENT
>THESE ARE A BIT OF A GANKFEST
>HOLY FUCK THESE BOSSES KICK MY ARSE
>YEAH THIS IS PROBABLY THE BEST CONTENT OF THE SERIES, SHAME ABOUT THE BASE GAME
SotFS comes out:
>UGH WHAT A RIPOFF, $20 FOR A REMIX?
>HEY ACTUALLY THIS MAKES THE GAME A BIT MORE FREE
>WOAH COOL WHAT ARE THESE HOODED DUDES
>HOLY SHIT THAT'S ONE BIG MELTY FACE
>YO THIS IMPROVES MY OPINION OF THE BASE GAME A LOT
I'd honestly rank SotFS next to Bloodborne and DeS. What it lacks for in visuals and overall feel of the gameplay it makes up for in sheer content, replayability, PvP and openness. It makes a lot more sense when you learn Tanimura and the rest of the B-Team had to redo a lot of the game under a year before release. Also, it tries a fair more few new things than DaS3, yet everyone slobbers on its cock despite essentially being boneless mix-ups of the other games (which is still better than most games in the past 5 years mind you, it just feels really rehashed).
I hope it gets a proper remake in the future to turn it into the DKC2 of the series instead of the SMB2. It honestly deserves a proper chance unhindered by internal drama.
I would have a blast until I got to a shitty part and then take a break for like two days and then I'd have fun again. The whole Iron Keep section of the game took me awhile because that's like 4 shitty areas in a row and I almost got burnt out.
It was interesting, I'll give it that. I liked the enemy designs more than Dark Souls 1, but the level design was just absolute dog shit.
Bloodbourne is great. Everything else not so much
You can't make up gameplay, if its shit then the whole game is shit, and this is a fact, thats why BB and DS3 are much superior to 2
I wasn't disappointed, to the contrary I was having a blast. It was only after a while that the feeling started to settle that this game just isn't as good.
Because I didn't started with das, and played des first, I wasn't disappointed at all
I liked how they returned parry mechanic from inane arcade das shit to fluid des self
Characters and world stopped being uninspired des ripoffs helped a lot too
It took a year to make SOTFS or vanilla DS2?
Very strange opinion. I liked the game before the DS2 reddit defense force crawls up my ass
I remember Peter Serafinowicz was doing comercials for the game, professing his love for the series and having his agent contact From Software so he could voice a character in the game. When the game turned out to be shit I actually just felt bad for Peter, rather than getting mad at the developers.
You know how to realize a game isn't great?
>The gameplay isn't the best...BUT
And this is exactly how people defend DS2
I said overall feel. As in, smoothness and such. But that doesn't mean for example, pacing or mechanics outside of animations are better than DaS2's. DaS3's overall pacing in regards to combat feels worse than 2's, IMO. A bajillion rolls and everything being too fucking speedy feels bad in what's meant to be a more grounded series vs. something like BB or Sekiro. Not to mention spells are super unsatisfying due to doing fucking piddly damage.
>why does this fantasy game look like a fantasy game wtf
Didn't you see my disclaimer?
vanilla DaS2 as it is. It was in development for a year or two before that but the original director took the game way too far from its roots and apparently had issues with the rest of the team or some shit, along with the game having to have its visuals downgraded because bamco wanted that last-gen money, so I think most of it was redone in mid 2013 to very early 2014.
dark souls games are the ultimate cozy prove me wrong
Hated it mostly due to the lighting changes. Grew on me after playing SotFS and I now consider it to be on par with DS1.
>After the first few hours, having upgraded a bit of adaptability, health and stamina, find yourself with so much souls you don't know where to spend them with
>End up just buying 99x lifegems
The way lifegems heal you (health regen buff) and their availability seriously makes me think they wanted you to use them ala diablo potions and mitigate damage while you swing inside huge group of mobs. Never liked that at all.
>pushover
Come on lad, the first 3 or 4 bosses in each game is a pushover.
>mfw spend one night a few years ago just sleeping and then waking up to fight in the belfry whenever i got summoned
was pretty comfy
