Is this new trend of constantly making "anchor" posts any time an artist says they're working on a request in response to all of those posts whining about how requesters "lost interest" by not reposting the request, thus resulting in the artist just throwing their WIP into the trash instead of linking to the original post when they were done?
It's mainly an issue of saying that you're doing a request in the first place. It leads to a lot of unrealistic expectations, it's best if you give an idea of how soon it'll be done or reply to them so that they aren't as worried.

Some might say to try harder and do the whole publish or perish starving artist thing so that you are forced to innovate. I will tell you to stop giving a fuck, do whatever the fuck you want. If you make your art a chore you will lose passion, which is the source of art, and rather than innovate you are more likely to become the EA of art and churn out endless garbage to pay the bills. Best case you take a creative and professional stepping stone job as a cog in a machine creating art as part of something like a game and build up your portfolio and spend your work hours as mindless practice, or maybe you work answering phones at fuckmyass corp just for a professional stepping stone. Point is you don't make art something you struggle to depend on or that you hate, and you don't just fucking quit either, you make that shit something you build on for years until you manage to get lucky. The reason being everything professional is all about having a lucky moment where you can increase your likelihood of being fortunate with due to prior effort, unless of course you where handed something because of some connection. So let YOUR art remain a passion and not a chore, depend on whatever the fuck for a livelihood and experiment in your passion and create for the sake of creating. You will get in both a better financial and social position, and your art will not suffer which means you will have a better chance of making something worthwhile and getting recognized for it.
So get paid, have fun, build your portfolio, and get well equiped and ready to fucking pounce on an opportunity like a starving animal.

Steal colours from a palette or someone else's drawing and when you're done, change the hue/contrast with sliders a bit. I like to turn the image into black and white and undo every once in a while to see how it looks like that. If the image is "readable" in black and white, if it's clear what's happening in it like that, you're doing good enough job.
Absolutely do not steal colours from a palette. It's important you're able to decide on your own colors to use and do not rely on computer editing either Unless you just want to get the job done rather than to learn, go ahead.

You can't mix the colours properly with them. I understand your points but if you never color, picking colours yourself from nothing is a nightmare. With limited colours you can practice how different colors interact with each other (think pixel art palettes). Once you're more dedicated and confident, you go and start learning the actual color theory. Starting from that immediately is scary and can easily turn people away.
