Why did the Mario Strikers series die?

Why did the Mario Strikers series die?

Was it because it was too "edgy"?
It sold fairly well.

There are a few Mario sports series that died off. I think people only want golf and tennis.

I don't know why Mario Baseball died either. Japanese love baseball
Tennis fucking sucks and golf doesn't need any more games.

Never played the mario gold games, but from what I've read the everyone's golf games are pretty "inspired" from them.
I wouldn't mind a switch mario golf game, especially since I ain't paying for the ps4 online service for a system I don't use just for golf.

because divegrass is garbage and NOJ can't market it to murca, and mario is a murcan icon

why aren't there handegg or niggerhop Mario games then?

I miss her so much

I think the Wii games didn't sell well, ironically.
Otherwise, idk.
That said, I didn't care for strikers charged at all. I enjoyed the simplicity of the gamecube game

Nintendo don't want to betray mario and friends as super aggressive that's why the wrestling game got canned

>Tennis fucking sucks
No it fucking doesn't Mario Tennis Aces is unironically one of the best competitive Switch titles.

>sequel worse than original
>dropped immediately after

Because Nintendo has Next Level working exclusively on Luigi's Mansion games now? Really not sure, but I hope that we can get a new Strikers sometime soon.

Because Mario sports is fucking retarded, a cool concept, but overall fucking retarded

Then where the fuck is the new golf, last one was on fucking gamecube

my cousins were literally the best in the world for wii version

The series unironically has been bound to handhelds for a long time.
GBA, two 3DS titles, and I think a DS title.

This but everybody's golf on PS4 is pretty great and filled the void for me

Thankfully that wont be a problem now.

I completely forgot the 3ds ones
I got that too, it's really fun not gonna lie

miyamoto's insanity

Strikers on the GC was such a godlike game. Damn the memories...

I was more just meaning that the series isn't dead. The last full game was in 2014 and it was a fifth of that mashup game from 2017.

tried to work on something called Super Mario Spikers which got cancelled.

>tfw you will never see a wrestling mario game

That meme is supposed to say "whens smoko cunt" and your a fucking faggot for using the shit version

I'm surprised we never got Super Mario Handegg complete with Chargin' Chucks.

>WWE with Mario characters
I'd play the shit out of that.

I could do without the mario, but I wish they took the basis of this game to other sports

Thanks for contributing to the topic, you turbo autist

Unfortunately, Nintendo found it too violent, which is a shame, because I feel like they could have toned it down a bit to match it up with the family-friendly expectation.

The game's story was decent by itself, Mario and the others felt shoehorned in the storyline, but I would take that if it meant they'd do that again.

Does a story really matter in a sports game? The focus should be perfecting game play mechanics, multiplayer and challenging but fair AI.

>mfw emulatan Strikers
>all those afternoons playing with the lads

Normally I'm not one that thinks a story should be brought into sports nor do I care about sports anime, but the ones done in GB and GBA were fun enough on their own, almost even looking like a IP on it's own that only had Mario to guarantee sales, it even put the Mario part second place which was AFTER the game's main storyline as if the devs suddenly remembered they were doing a mario game. I'm just disappointed that it didn't flesh out as it's own IP similarly to how Wario hijacked the Super Mario Land series.

I can't remember what went wrong with the wii game besides the online being unplayable

not so much "story" but progression based CaCs have always been insanely popular. Even today stuff like my player in 2k is a huge draw

My cousins still play this game to this day so I have no idea.

It’s not really that it’s just that Next Level has been thrust between projects left and right

Punch Out Wii came after, then Dark Moon, then Fedforce and now Mansion 3

Nintendo doesn't want to have any style or personality on their flagship mascots.
Also MUH 2K, MLB AND FIFA, BETTER STICK TO PARTYING AND KARTING

Soccer is gay and the game sucked and us based americans control the world so no more gay Mario soccer for you hahahah

>no mario hockey

I just want Bowser to crush people Byfuglien style

Did you anons like the GC or Wii version more?

Too expressive and lively compared to NSMB, so they gutted it.

Wii has more stuff to do, but motion controls.
Gamecube is more like an arcade game.

I prefer the Gamecube version, but both are all right.

>too expressive

Attached: yQICuUO.gif (380x216, 1.91M)

Pretty much this. The characters actually had personality and attitude. Can't have that in a Mario game, no sir.

>poorball

I liked Strikers, but Charged seemed to get really edgy for no reason.

Stop being so cynical. Nintendo loves next level game

Attached: 1526470350052.gif (320x256, 1.86M)

So why haven't they done another Strikers?

What's the best version?

Not sure, especially considering this was the Magnum Opus of Mario sports

Yet FIFA still sells ~25 million copies yearly.

So where have they been for 10 years?
