The great debate.

cringe thread, how do you even compare the two? both are immeasurably based

I love ZE but Ghost Trick is the best individual game out of all the adventure games the DS got.

The trilogy has an extremely disappointing ending but 999 as a standalone is great. But it still isn't better than Ghost Trick.

wasn't crazy about ghost trick, 999 is better

999 >= Ghost Trick > PW trilogy >= Hotel Dusk > VLR >= DR trilogy > Layton trilogy > Trace Memory

Ghost Trick feels like one of the more overrated-on-Yea Forums games.

>DR
Danganronpa?

Listen to this. I dare you to not remember the scene as it went on

Ghost Trick is a game.
TNG is a shitty visual novel.

Phoenix Wright has even less gameplay than either of those but people love it anyway.

I’ve never understood the appeal of Hotel Dusk. Everything about it is so mediocre.

I'm playing it right now and I feel the same

Checking stuff is SO BORING. Not even the worst Ace Attorney felt as a drag

The aesthetics used to represent characters and FMV is neat though

999 is a miracle, amazing one-of-a-kind adventure game that will never happen again. ghost trick is a fun generic nintendo puzzle that might be a little bit overrated, it's great though so i can't complain. both are nice, but if i'd have to play one and only one, i'd pick 999, no contest

>ghost trick is a fun generic nintendo puzzle
It wasn't even developed by nintendo

I think you’ve got which one is “generic” and which is “one-of-a-kind” backwards. There are dozens of other VNs that feel exactly like 999. I can’t think of any other game like Ghost Trick.

>DR better than any of those
Don't be silly user

Ghost Trick. It's not even a fucking question.

999 was alright, but the story was straight up TOO DEEP 4 U. They took the Kingdom Hearts route
>Let's leave some open-ended stuff to solve in the sequel
to the story, and just didn't wrap it up.
Also, the art design is generic as fuck, the gameplay, when it happens, is boring as shit, and literally the only reason to keep playing is to solve the over-arching mystery, which doesn't happen, and then is underwhelming as shit when it does.

Ghost Trick, on the other hand, has an interesting gameplay gimmick, striking art design, and a story that resolves in an extremely satisfying way. It's the complete package

Are we just listing random visual novels and adventure games? Where do Steins;Gate and Pajama Sam rank?

The art direction of Ghost Trick is among the top you can find in videogames. Honestly.

>There are dozens of other VNs that feel exactly like 999.
Name them.

Ghost Trick by far.
999 is cool and all but Ghost Trick is one of the most perfect games ever made.

VLR (obviously), Ever 17, Remember 11

pajama sam no need to hide when it's dark outside has some of the best characters in video games

Ghost Trick and it’s not even close.

Name the rest of the dozens.

both are shit games with puzzles for babies. only fags that play 'games' because of the quirky characters like them

I love 999 and VLR, but Ghost Trick is flat out the best in the "visual novel puzzle mystery"genre.

It's called AVG or ADV.

Nani?
What is that?

Is this the adventure-horror-novel game?

As everyone else already said, Ghost Trick, no contest. Not just that, but the Zero Escape trilogy started out shitty with 999, and got so much worse with each sequel to the point where I needed to force myself to beat Zero Time Dilemma because it was that insufferable. The number of batshit idiotic """""twists""""" the series has pissed me off to no end, because they made no sense. They were twists just for the sake of having them, with no thought put into integrating them properly. Ghost Trick, meanwhile, is in a class of its own. It's the standard every aspiring game developer working in this genre should look at.

Apples and oranges.
I prefer Ghost Trick

Ghost Trick because it wasn't ruined by sequels
On its own 999 is more based

Ghost Trick > Original version of 999 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Remake of 999

Both. I'm more biased towards Ghost Trick though since it is kino in it's purest form.

Both are great, but if I had to choose I'd go with Ghost Trick.

How'd they fuck up the remake?

There are a couple of (minor) things but they completely butchered the last puzzle.
You get a crossword puzzle which has "password" as the solution.

ghost trick
what a stupid thread
