Heard hollow knight is like 2d dark souls, how true is that?
>Baba is You
im sick of this meme
this is a glorified phone game for soccer moms
I really wish we would see the rise of mid-sized developers.
>Puzzle games are bad because simple controls
And I'm sick of this meme
Every hard game where you drop collectibles when you die gets compared to DS
YO IS BRAI AND SO
U NLET Y
there's been some god-tier indie games lately, and doesn't show any sign of stopping either with plenty promising ones coming up
>hk silksong
>dd 2
>ror 2
>sk king of cards
>spelunky 2
>boi repentance
blatant contrarianism
True why isn't it a movie "game" that plays itself for you
It's unironically harder than any Soulsbourne game.
What about:
>dead cells
>banner saga trilogy
So it is hard then?
user you forgot
>Noita
>Sable
>Hylics 2
>Disco Elysium
>Spire (Jesus Christ come out already)
It's just a metroidvania, but the atmosphere and style of storytelling are quite reminiscent of Dark Souls.
Indie games are garbage.
if I was to post all of them we'd be here forever, there is a shitload of good indies coming out these days
I always forget Dead Cells came out of early access in 2018
Radio The Universe soon, lads
Yeah, ignoring all western AAA garbage, pirating ok jap games like Sekiro and DMCV while buying solid indie titles
>compared chad knight to those putrid pretentious pieces of crap
>>>/reddit/
>YO IS BRAI AND SOU NLET Y
what did he mean by this?
Are there any good indie 3D brawlers?
Cant wait for Blazing Chrome desu, hope they don't fuck it up and consolize it too much.
Are we doing full releases only? Because you're missing a few.
>Deltarune Chapter 1
>Pizza Tower
>Fight Knight
How come Hyperlight Drifter never took off in the way the others did? A few years ago that was one of the most anticipated indie games ever. It also was one of the first to pioneer the flashy neon pixel style.
This, Baba is You is fucking r*ddit garbage
It is challenging, yes, but it's not hard to get into at all. Give it a try, it's really nicely done.
I enjoy indie games that aren't pretentious. I'm playing Outward now. It's pretty damn good. The difficulty can be unfair (inb4 realism, yeah bandits can take 80 hits and you take 1 is Soo realistic) and mechanically it runs a bit better than a PS2 game but no triple A studio would have developed something unique like this.
posting just to say that Rain World is god tier
I have taken the indie pill.
Also is salt and sanctuary indie too?
So it's good?
It was conspicuously unfinished.
I think the backlash from it being 30fps at launch scarpered its chances of major fame
Why isn't Deep Rock Galactic on there?

Are there any good, recent, indie 3D action games? The only one I know is Furi and that's a couple years old by now. I know that 2D is cheaper and easier but I tend to enjoy 3D more.
indie? nah, miss me with that shit. I only play the most popular ps4 games, because popularity and sales among npctoid normalniggers means it's good
Technically still Early Access, only wanted to count completed games otherwise we'd be here all day
based user, indie games are literally the only games that aren't carbon copies of whatever board rooms deem most "profitable"
It's the only place creativity is still alive in game design
>Night in the Woods
Furis basically a 2D game. Play Nex Machina I guess thats got 2D gameplay but 3D graphics too and is like a better version of Furi gameplay wise.
>no cuphead
Heart and Slash is fun. It's basically a rogue-like hack and slash (if you couldn't tell from the name)
With that user's suggestion you should know Nex Machina is a twin-stick shooter, so not exactly like Furi. Genuinely one of the best twin-stick shooters ever created though
I doubt that was the main issue; only the hardcore enthusiasts care much about FPS locks. Every other big console exclusive runs at 30 FPS and nobody gives a shit. I've only seen an impactful negative response from framerate locks in games in niche genres that traditionally utilize high framerates, like DmC. HLD was a Zelda clone; that's not niche at all.
Hollow Knight is most like Dark Souls in it's atmosphere, themes, and story. It does have things like bloodstains in the form of your shade and bonfires in the form of benches, but it's not like Dark Souls created those mechanics.
Furi is a twin stick too, its got melee attacks sure but the beat way to play is shooting everything all the time anyway. The biggest difference is that Nex Machina is an arcade game so its about getting that 1 credit clear and improving your score.
I actually have played Heart and Slash; it's janky and really limited but I still put 30 hours into it just because I'm not exactly spoiled for choice.
does cuphead actually count as indie?
pretty sure microsoft directly funded it
God it's clearly been too long since I've played through Furi
That list can be trimmed down by about 80% op.

Fuck it's been some good years to be an indiefag lately.
I didnt like Pyre
I find Bastion and Hades a lot better
People low key forgetting one of the best games released was indie and it was free at one time.
Cave story.
>>Blaster Master Zero
>>Blaster Master Zero 2
Bring it to PC you cunts. I don't want to have to wait for Switch emulation to catch up
Bloodstained R is probably gonna be shit but it was all worth it for Bloodstained Curse of the Moon. It's everything good about old school platformers in one package.
In retrospect Cave Story was nothing special, the fact that a single person designed it only really shows that anything could be achieved better with a team. Cave Story would be considered an okay flash game nowadays, but in terms of bringing anything to the table of indie games, it's sorely lacking in every possible way. Hence why people don't talk about it much anymore.
Cave Story is still free. You can go download it from Pixel's website. Nicalis doesn't deserve your money anyway.
Factorio, oxygen not included, darkest dungeon, invisible inc. are all worthwhile sims, or turn based stealth for the last one.
Cave Story still shits on 99% of indie games these days, including the ones people consider good.
You can blame your fellow PC fats for not actually buying any of Inti Creates' games for why they dropped out of Steam.
For now, they're focusing their efforts on Switch because Switchfags actually buy their games in droves. Hell BM02 has even made it to #13 on the charts despite being a relatively obscure indie franchise.
Feel free to list the games that are apparently not great and try to prove you aren't just shitposting for (you)s
>GRIS
cringe
GRIS is barely above Gone Home nigger stop
Cave Story is still great. I played it for the first time like 2 years ago too, so I don't have nostalgia to blame for that opinion.
I got Darkwood a while ago because I liked the demo but it's still in the backlog because I ended up playing other stuff. I really want to get back to it though.
only darkwood and hyper light drifter are any good
What Remains of Edith Finch is still okay right?
Youve never played most of the other ones OP mentioned and know fuckall about em
Hey guys I just got the Crimson Court for Darkest Dungeon but I was already halfway through the game. Is it a bad idea to enable it in my save?
Yes but I'm just picky about which I play so I don't overload
Also, being a collectfag, buying from Limited Run games helps it so I keep a steady stream of games but also keep picky with what I want since I don't buy everything they put out
Hollow knight looks beautiful, and is a cool game. But it's annoying, unrewarding, repetitive and honestly boring, ive literally fallen asleep while playing.
but, for a gothic metroid-like die and die again game, it's pretty cool.
DRG has given me more entertainment than it has any right to.
Can't wait for Mechstermination Force dropping next week.
>DRG
U w0t?
What Remains of Edith Finch was pretty good yes
I really liked the story of Lewis
>Hollow Knight
>annoying, unrewarding, repetitive and honestly boring
I don't play fangames.
But AM2R was excellent
seething
>great
>games that still have shit controls and garbage gameplay
>many even have the fucking storygame bullshit taking over 90+% of the fucking game
They're just modern games with pixel graphics. Fuck them just like the rest of modern gaming. You want good games with pixel graphics, GO PLAY 80s GAMES.
Why are you wasting your time with fangames?
Go to play real games.
>>games that still have shit controls and garbage gameplay
>>many even have the fucking storygame bullshit taking over 90+% of the fucking game
I think only one or two games in the OP would even fit into your stupid complaints, and one being because it's a damned RPG
>every indie game has pixel art graphics
holy shit this looks rad
>tfw hour long rain world review in the future
fuckin hype
>Factorio
You mean Autism Simulator?
I played Iconoclast recently and despite some trace elements of wokeness I enjoyed it a lot.
t. didn't make it past the Lake levels.
Literally untrue. The subreddit for the game is dead while it regularly gets 400+ posts threads on Yea Forums.
If you don't enjoy at least one game that can be considered an autism simulator, I'm truly scared of you
Is there any diference between indies and AAA games nowdays?
for example, a lot of indie games make a lot of money and have a lot of merchandise just like the games from AAA companies and indie characters can crossover as well with AAA characters.
Like the indie cameos in team fortress
Shame it's a snitch exclusive
Because the devs abandoned the superior physics model after the ps1 and the fangame has 60+ fps, online support, cool extra modes and mods
Soul
Into the Breach was disappointing. You just end up buying the same useful upgrades every run. It would've been better if the mechs were always distinct, no matter how you upgraded them
They tend to be cheaper and and have less jewish bullshit like paid DLC and DRM. They also cater to niches that AAA devs won't touch.
For now. They'll probably port it to everything else eventually. Can't really blame them with sticking with Nintendo after how much better Gunman Clive did on the 3DS compared to everything else.
>hylics 2 btfo most of the games listed in style alone
>no mention
For shame
Indies are more experimental, cater to niche audiences or untapped ones (see TBoI basically kicking off Roguelites) and have less scummy business practices.
And sometimes an Indie title just manages to blow up monumentally.
Hylics 2 isn't out yet user
the first game is the literal definition of all style no substance
the sequel better step shit up
More likely to release complete rather than having to wait for a year of patches for them to actually work how they were supposed to on launch.
>dd 2
>ror 2
Which ones are these?
I can play dead cells and and have a more fun time with better weapon variety challenging enemies that aren't just "hop in swipe swipe hop out"and without the bland platforming segments in hollow knight
Probably Risk of Rain 2 for the latter.
darkest dungeon 2
risk of rain 2
thank you.
I still can't believe we're getting RoR2 in 3D and it's fun
Super Hexagon?
>come in these threads hoping to see my game mentioned
it never does
>3D
What? Did the dev graduate from GameMaker or did the absolute madman tried to do 3D there?
Night in the Woods' soundtrack is far too good for the game its in.
Risk of Rain 2 is great.
>indie shit
Give us a hint.
A lot of NitW is too good for the game it's in.
I wish Lethal League threads weren't dead
Are there any indie strategy games? Looking for a challenging strategy game where the AI doesn't need to cheat out the ass to make it a competition
Some guys said they'll try to save us from the paradox monopoly on GS but I haven't heard anything since.
I liked Night in the Woods.
Enter the Gungon is pretty fun and it's getting it's last update April 5th.
Okay but what if I want a game that’s not a rouge like, randomly generated, Metroidvania, puzzle or party game?
epic battle fantasy?
fran bow?
it came out the same day as FFXV on PC and nobody played it
How about strategy/simulators? These are the two I'm playing right now.
