Really? Was I the only one that liked V more than Nero? I liked Dante as well do not get me wrong. But V felt like something new for once and not anther Swordsman to play as. Nero in DMC5 feels way more boring than his counterpart in DMC4 and lacks the smoothness he once had. V just has cool stands to fight with and to attack the enemy. Nero on the other hand just feels boring you have to sacrifice an arm literally to even get an SSS ranking. He feels way too experimental for my tastes.

That might be what is bothering me the most. The breakers feel off and to weak for my liking. I would have wanted him to have a different grapple that does electricity or crazy things like that. It feels like wasted opportunity and potential. He really should have had more added on to him. Even Dante had more things to him than Nero did.
I agree in some aspects Nero in 5 is an upgrade. But in the case of movesets and the ranking system they have on him. I felt like they could have done more.

The issue I have is they break easily and even when they do and you have nothing left it becomes sort of difficult to chain things together compared to Dante. Dante has a motorcycle, shotguns, pistols, 4 of his original style combos. All Nero has is the devil breakers they break easily. Is a good thing to build off of but to me feels like an afterthought. Yes I do like air taunt, I do like Knuckles but what about having more weapons to use like a grappling hook that can swing enemies around or protect you like string in battle. Nero needs more than what he has. He is better than 4 but still not great enough to be considered fully developed.

There's outright evidence in the games code that there are plans for DLC but they weren't mentioned as a precaution so if it sold bad, they don't have to go back on their word and if it did sell well they can say it's getting further support thus making them look better.

The way that the style system works is that it's an average of ALL your fights. So anytime you hit an enemy with anything, that counts as combat and you are graded on it. Time spent at a rank gives you points, as does killing things and different things give different points. So try to keep fights going at high ranks as long as you can. Urizen in that mission doesn't count as an actual fight, so he isn't totaled into your style, which is why it's so hard to get enough pointss.

I actually don’t mind that, I just hate running out of arms, the idea of it alone is enough to make me overly conservative.

I think the right balance for Nero would be the way “Unlimited Breakers” works in the void, where destroying a breaker (with a break age, break away or taking damage during use) cycles to the next one and the destroyed one ends up at the bottom of the list.

It still makes him more loadout-focused and discourages constant break age spam (since it’ll take a while to cycle back to your lost breaker) and helps distinguish his version of style/weapon switching from Dante, but still encourages more improvisational play and lets you destroy a breaker without rebuilding your entire fucking loadout every mission.

Honestly I assumed that this functionality would be an end-game unlock for Nero (like Irregular Full Custom)

Assuming a Vergil DLC is coming, and he get's his own combat theme similar to Dante, Nero and V, who would you want to write it and what would kind of sound would you want?

DMC5's plot was literally Itsuno finding away to not only redeem his husbando but making him viable for future titles as a protagonist alongside Dante and Nero. The man clearly has a better royal guard than Dante.

Scoring counts whatever fight you actively participate in, so if you just punt one of the stragglers and run away to the next room with a D it'll plummet your score but if you just run right past it has no effect
Also RG turns every dante mission into an easy S, don't even have to be perfect blocks you can get away with just holding the button and you'll finish fights with much higher score so if you're still having trouble S ranking 10 like I was just block a couple hits every fight
Also starting a fight with honeycomb fire from E&I raises your rank to B while hardly doing any damage, it's a perfect way to start fights

They work decently but there is not much options for Nero on the battlefield.

Several components to that.

1) You’d have to kill the D-Pad L/R functionality. Technically ANY D-Pad press will pop DT, not just one specific direction.

2) You’d have to find a way to manage the list of breakers in-memory without the game’s permission, which would at least be a more involved script. “Switch Breakers left” means generating a list of breakers, translating it, and overwriting the entire list of existing breakers. Doing this with hook-in scripts without fucking up performance, the UI, or any player inputs would be tricky to accomplish (though not impossible).

Compare that to “find a bool flag that enables Unlimited Breakers in the Void, and force it from 0 to 1 in memory for parts of the game where the player isn’t given the option to change it”.

They're all used together and count as a single weapon, call them Blinky, Inky, Pinky, and Clyde. The way it works is you use the d-pad to select a primary which alters input moves, while your secondary depends on the move used (fast shooting attacks like honeycomb will favour the SMG or 1911, for example) and rotates for normal fire. Naturally your primary gun alters speed, damage, fire rate, knockback, etc.
A tactical shotgun made by Nico for specialised devil cartridges, with shock rounds, flame rounds, ice rounds, and Gilgamesh rounds, again selected with the D-pad and altering the properties of your moves. Only mesh rounds can be charged but make your moves a lot slower to compensate, while flame spreads through crowds, shock is best for staggering, and ice will slow enemies.
Spiral, with your selection altering the bullet's focus (prioritising single-target or spread, ground or aerial) with just-shots allowing for more bullets to be fired per action.
Mary, a new and improved rocket launcher with versatility in mind incorporating breaker tech. Can fire guided missiles, holy cluster nades, timed sticky bombs, or overcharge tomboy-style, complete with an upgraded bayonet using electrified Gilgamesh wire that makes throwing around smaller demons an easy task even for a human.

It's not like I have a good solution but I still hate it.

You pick a button (or keyboard key, which is what I did) that you aren't gonna use and you bind it to Style Action, and then you use Steam or some other controller macro-editor to make it so that when you press a style change button, it also presses this style action button.

From there you can rebind your style change buttons to triggers or face buttons and as long as those buttons are also macro'd to press the style action button, you can have a "Trickster Button", a "Gunslinger Button", etc.

What I did was, I set it up so that pressing LB, RB, RT or B would also press "1" on the keyboard. With Nero and V, "1" on the keyboard does nothing, so this doesn't impact their play ("1" also doesn't have any menu functions) but I bound it to be Style Action with Dante (on my controller, it's D-Pad down, which I also don't use as any character, so I actually unbound D-Pad down in Steam and it does nothing, no controller input sends D-Pad down to the game).

So, when playing Dante, since pressing LB is configured to put me in Gunslinger mode AND Steam is set up to press "1" whenever I press LB, LB sends the game "Gunslinger Mode" and "Style Action" messages simultaneously, which makes LB automatically execute a Gunslinger Style Action.

It's honestly quite comfy. I originally had it with the game sending D-Pad Down messages in this way, but when Nero got his DT it caused issues. So then I briefly had it set up where Dante had a separate control setup, but I eventually realized that DMC5 (bless the game for it) allows simultaneous Keyboard and Controller inputs.

The keyboard flickering is just the game temporarily recognizing KB/M inputs before more controller inputs appears. I get it a lot in the Void because I also have a Steam Controller touchpad set up to be the mouse, which means moving my camera also swaps the heads-up display.

I don't think the Steam Rebinder will allow you to change the way KB/M messages are interpreted by the game, though I could be wrong.

What you'd need, in your case, is some sort of external tool or macro manager that you could configure so that the buttons you had assigned to be style buttons could send two simultaneous messages: their own binding, plus a simultaneous binding for whatever unused key you chose for Dante's Style Action binding.

They don't need to, though. The amount of style switching you'll do in standard play is equal to or greater than the amount of weapon switching and Devil Trigger popping; it made much more sense for me to bind my shoulders to styles, and use D L/R/U for gun cycle, weapon cycle and DT (especially now that Nero's DT default is also on DU)

though now I just have my Steam Controller grips configured to be DT and Taunt, so I only use the Pad for cycling guns and weapons. It can get a little clunky if you switch weapons a lot, but it's no MORE clunky than with Styles.

I was using a 360 controller and using the thumb to change styles, but I couldn't let go the analog stick + hit the D-Pad + press B without dropping the enemy or hitting B before moving the analog and doing something completely different.

Then I tried plugging my PS4 controller and now I can change styles by pressing the D-Pad while not letting go of the analog. But now I'm wondering if I'm not using the most optimal strategy here. Plus, using my index finger has been hell on my wrist and that can't be good. Should go back and practice with the 360 controller?

Is there some technical limitation stopping modders from turning player characters into bosses IE making Vergil as functional boss in 4SE or Dante in 5 when Vergil is playable or is just because no one sees it as being worth the trouble.

V would be fine if he had more versatility. If you give Dante a single devil arm, a single gun, and kept him locked to a single style he would still have more going on than V. He feels more like a prototype than an actual character.

Simple Matt, you introduce a new demon lord who gains power over time to become the final boss along with several other humans with devil arms that are sorta like nelo angelos. This allows you to introduce the concept of there always being powerful demons who gain more power and those who would rise to power to challenge those like Dante.

It's probably possible to load a character as an enemy and have the player interact with them, but reverse engineering how the AI works in game and then trying to create an AI for something doesn't have one, that's both fun to fight and does the character justice, would be a nightmare for someone modding as a hobby.

Unless a miracle worker did it you'd probably just end up with something bad like the DMC4 Dante fights.

Is it better to play with KB+M than controller? I'm just so used to playing on controller with DMC but I can definitely it easier to pull off combos on KB+M.

I don't know how I change styles. Before I knew it I was adopting a crazy grip so I could better swap styles. Shit's automatic but I needed it for how often I did.

I don't know where the transition happened between barely even being able to weapon switch and cycling through all styles in weapons non stop for combos.

Probably a mix of both. We for sure got a lot of women on board because of V being such an attractive character to newfags.

Boring is opinion, but he is too basic (him not being fleshed out enough is him being too basic by definition) and even on DMD he is way too easy. Nero and Dante's damage outputs are balanced around the fact they can do like twenty actions in three seconds and chain and cancel anything into anything else, excluding the few broken options like buster breakage and Faust. V is slower, Shadow and Griffon cannot cancel chain shit together in the same way, Nightmare is a slug, V's damage output and style gain is balanced around that, allowing him to destroy everything and get high style gains with little effort while never putting himself at any real risk and having some of the best evasive options in the game if he chooses to.
