Recently I played Warhammer and the Spellforce series, it really revitalize my hopes for western RPG's. Other than that, most western games are boring, they tend to be too realistic and dramatic, If I want realism I rather get a job or a gf.

I've given up on gaming in general. What decent looking games are there coming out this year? I can't think of a single one.

1. Environments look realistic and boring

I probably played like 25-30 western games in my entire life. OG Doom, OG Wolfenstein, Mafia 1, GTA3 and VC, Splinter Cell 1, Max Payne 1 and 3, Crysis, the Witcher series, Mass Effect 1 and 2 (not 3), Soldier of Fortune 1, Hitman 1 and 2, Halo 3 and ODST. There's a few more but I don't quite remember
I enjoy yankee games when they're straightforward action without any character focus. When they're something like an RPG they make me violently ill to my stomach.

rising storm is probably the best fps i've ever played. The witcher 3 is probably one of the best rpgs ive ever played, along with mass effect 1/2. Hollow knight merged dark souls and metroidvania and did a great job at it too. Honestly I thought Doom wasn't that great, there are way better fps out there.

I'm 35 and the West had great games. I fucking loved a ton of Akklaim games in the N64 and GC era. I loved Doom and Wolfenstein. All the Blizzard stuff up to mid WoW.

I loved lots of JP games too, but the west never felt like it had a weak vidya game up till... 2012 or so? I remember in 2008 thinking we'd see a resurgence of great western games with Dead Space, Batman Arkham Asylum, Bioshock, Mirror's Edge... but then the next decade was nothing but milking that shit and killing off franchises and games designed by committee, and the past 3 years has been more and more SJW shit injected into everything.

I'm in the pre-alpha or whatever it's called. As much as I am hype for the finished product I can guarantee it's getting delayed again. Unless the backer build is far behind the main build there is no way they are done by September. I'd expect December of this year, and I could maybe see April. There is good fundamentals and this BB4 has made it harder now (and I haven't even met the Chiron, aka the alien tank, or the siren, which is some kind of slippery fast bitch) but it doesn't feel anywhere close to done and the ETA is September, so 6 months away.

But like you and said, AAA is dead in the West, AA is pretty solid. I can't think of a triple AAA Western game I am excited for. The most notable western games I want are Total Wars (Chink or anything else), Xcom3, Arma 4 (if it's ever announced), Bannerlord (if it ever comes out), Ancient Egyptian citybuilder, ancient neolithic citybuilder (I think literally neolithic), red orchestra 3 (I hope that 83 didn't replace it). I don't keep track of much games beyond ones I've played and wait for a sequel or ones I stumble across but I know I would add to that Ace Combat 7, Dragon's Dogma 2, I'll try Sekiro when it's on sale and any soulsy game I'll enjoy. I am sure there are more out there that I don't know of, Japanese wise. In general as long as it doesn't go heavy in the kawaii ugu aesthetic I'm liable to like it. I'm coming to the view that when the Japanese do a western fantasy setting or theme they fucking do it amazing.

A= above your average indie game, lets say a team of 30 people who make various sims.

AA=Mid sized studio who can make a decently meaty game that's not huge on graphics and are backed up by belonging to a large publisher who can let them work with pre-existing AAA game assets and engines (See stuff like Dead Rising) This is your territory of being happy with 2 million sales.

AAA these days = 5 years of dev studios by teams the size of small countries who can get the best graphics but need 10 million sales + micro transactions to be worth it.

In my mind the clear Triple As are those with an E3 conference. Sony, Ubisoft, Nintendo, Bethesda Microsoft, EA are triple A. Including sub-teams where necessary. Activision-Blizzard is also probably AAA. When it gets to AA and A it's murkier for me. As it is with Japanese Developers - are Capcom AAA? Are Namco-Bandai? They seem like they are AAA.

One could be if the company is a developer and producer (or has subsidiaries) or just a developer. I can name you what I think or feel in my gut rather than off a specific qualifier. Firaxis is AA, Fromsoft is AA, Snapshot games (Phoenix Point/Gollop) is clearly A, Taleworlds seems more A than AA, Bohemia Interactive is AA, creative assembly is AA, Paradox was AA but they are rapidly approaching AA+ because of how many acquisitions they've gotten, their work on more games beyond the flagship and related flagship of GSG.

You could contend that A games work on a single game (maybe 2) while AA works on a few. The idea being an A team is too small to work on anything more than one game while AA work on their flagship and a few supplemental ones.
