there's hardly any ground and fighting type battles in hoenn games that pose any sort of threat. The worst is has to worry about is 2x water damage.

Earthquake is a OHKO unless its coming from something defensive with low base attack, no attack investment and/or STAB, and even then it still is a lot of the time

Steel and Rock are both weak to Ground and Fighting, but Rock resists Fire while Steel is weak to it so Fire deals normal damage

Fighting types are near non-existent outside of gyms,
Ground types are more common but even then, it's rare for them to actually have good, strong Ground type moves because most things don't get fucking shit without Earthquake through TM.

Most of the magma/aqua grunts just have poochyena/zubat which are complete non threats, and all their pokemon just have level up movesets anyways so even when aqua does have a carvanha/sharpedo they never really have water moves.
