How many of you actually played it? I loved it.
How many of you actually played it? I loved it
I platinumed it.
It was pretty good.
I got it as a gift last Christmas, have yet to get around to playing it. Just looks kind of bland gameplay-wise, especially after playing a ton of DMC5.
> Just looks kind of bland
It is bland. It's a GoW game after all
>playing western games
I'm not a cuck to do that.
Chances kratos dies the next game
Lost all interest with the camera change desu. Game lost all identity, like going from Skate 2 to Skate 3. Just became another over the should action game with RPG elements.
Walking simulators are for zoomers.
>put melee attacks on the trigger buttons
you dumb cunts
>I platinumed it.
I can't beat the valkyrie queen
It works well what's the problem? You can no move the camera while comboing.
Me, i played all the previous games except the one for old phones and it felt great, the combat system is the best i've ever seen by a western team.
Let me put it this way. It looks considerably more bland than the old GoW games.
i enjoyed it a lot. it didnt do anything new but it polished everything it had. Playing through gmgow right now. Musphelheim trials are kicking my ass
90%
Isnt the whole point of the game Kratos trying to withhold prophecy and the cyclical nature of gods? Maybe the next one is him trying to go against what the jotenheim tapestry was foretelling.
Game was fine, the 180 turn the kid makes in character twice within a couple of hours is genuinely one of the worst narrative turns ive ever seen in video games. It was just so completely rushed and forced, it felt fucking stupid. Also why didnt I get to fight that huge fucking bird in Hel? That whole zone was a total waste of a great idea and such a let down.
It was a solid 8/10 game. Wish it had more enemy variety and boss fights. A lot of those valkyrie fights were pure bullshit.
so you're a weeb tranny? ok got it.
She took me ages too.
I couldn't see past all the effects on the screen so I eventually realized I have to learn the sound cues of her attacks. Then I managed to beat her finally.
Just build the gayest shit, Runic + CD
It isnt, it's soulfull as fuck
Only legit bad thing about it is lack of enemy variety specially because of troll repetition
It was fine. I enjoyed playing it but after I'd finished the main story I didn't feel much pull to do the side stuff. I'd buy a sequel.
He dies in almost every GOW. Doesnt mean much since he just punches his way out of hell every time.
6/10 oscar bait trash
the original trilogy of games was much better
Also Im colorblind so the Valkyrie Queen had one attack that I literally just had to guess whether to parry or dodge because it would be unblockable.
My biggest gripe is the hardest difficulty. Once you understand how combat works, you start to realize that every single fight is mandatory and kind of in a linear fashion. That means the devs can design every encounter to the last details. So instead of making more challenging enemy combos, they just used the same exact enemy loadout for every encounter except with added levels and a power up mode. Imagine if the first encounter was nightmares constantly powering up werewolves while those asshole witches keep lobbing spells at you on hardest difficulty. Or even in NG+ mode. It’s a big waste and they could have down more with it.
i played
i haven't enjoyed
I was largely disappointed. After the slew of 9's and 10's I expected a more comprehensive game, but instead I got the opening act to a larger story than ended up dragging on longer than it needed to. It's not a bad game by any means, but I don't think it's a great one either.
I did and it fucking sucked. It starts off amazing and then after Alfheim it turns into the shittiest game of that year.
>Abandons original mechanics/formula in favor of chasing after a bunch of market trends
>soulful
I played a little bit at a friend's house.
Holy shit, such a downgrade from the real God of War games
Soulsful, not soulful
100% sure you fags haven't even played or finished it, everyone was tired of the old formula and this new one is a really good compromise, stop shilling and play the games you're talking about.
Yeah I haven't played it because it looks like boring shit.
Its literally sitting on my shelf just gathering dust cause I can't be bothered to so much as take off the plastic wrap.
I watched it on twitch. Im glad i did because the cutscenes are the best part about the game. The combat is just gimped souls with terrible camera-placement
>let's go into the belly of a giant snake
>oh it's just a long black hallway and you're done in 5 minutes
>let's show the player a room full of mysterious portals, let's send them through one into a magical realm that looks as vibrant and exotic as they'd expect
>Ok, now make it so that only one of the other portals actually works, and it sends you to generic ice world, two portals send you to lava challenge arena world and brown challenge arena world. Let's also put about 85% of the content in generic skyrim world #113444-b
>let's give you 4 enemy types for the entire game
>let's put walking simulator and oscar bait bullshit that all fails abysmally and looks cringe and laughable compared to the game they were so obviously trying to rip off
>Couldn't give less of a fuck about the BOY because of how badly written everything is
>let's clearly stop this game halfway through and force the player to muddle about for 5 hours just so we can cut the game into 3 parts and sell each of them separately
>let's make the last boss fight an absolutely shittier version of the first one. let's use a binary color matching mechanic
Getting the blades was pretty badass though.
Loved it and had to platinum it (really easy to platinum), but didn't enjoy going back to find the ravens I missed.
The camera not cutting away was really impressive and really helped with the immersion especially with the way the lore was delivered to the player. I hope that they can keep the momentum going with the sequel. The biggest gripes are minor like the lack of a jump button and the repeated troll models.
The final fight with Baldur is 100% a letdown. There is no needed strategy at all, you are just so strong by that point that id genuinely be surprised if even 25% of players died during that fight.
Loved it and got my first platinum from it. Playing through the old games now as I missed them when they came out and they're good too
Strategy in a God of War game? Based discord tranny
He's already dead.
I enjoyed it, but only played through it once.
I mean the other bosses in the game actually had mechanics. The mine dragon had the zone AOE attacks and wave attacks, the ice troll in Hel had the ground based projectiles, the valkyries actually required some pattern recognition and reaction time. The final Baldur fight just feels like all that goes out the window and you just wail on him with your magic for 5 minutes with no risk whatsoever of dying.
No. He will be that nordic god of war going to the past. Time travel will be a thing in next game
>last boss fight an absolutely shittier version of the first one.
That's the only point you're right about. The rest of your post is pointless or buzzwords.
I think he's being a pedantic fag because you said strategy when you meant tactics.
It was a good adventure, but there are several big oversights preventing it from being 10/10 in my eyes
>Can't jump
>Enemy/boss variety
>Not many spectacular moments
>Rune chests feel repetitive
>Loot armor usually isn't worth it compared to crafting
>Still the same couple execution animations
mat was a little too nitpicky
Nah the point about the lack of environmental change is spot on. Even compared to other GOW games its not great. I was excited when I saw there were 4 or 5 other worlds to go into but when two of them were just cop out arena combat side mission stuff I was annoyed. Also the boy is really poorly written.
>let's just ignore all of these totally valid points because I was too dumb to notice them
ok, kid
btw, buzzword is literally a fucking buzzword, you hack.
I played it with a friend at his house, it was okay. Had some kino as fuck moments though like Kratos getting the blades of chaos again. Kid was actually not that bad, and I tend to hate the kid companions in these games, he was better then fucking Ellie that's for sure. Game was pretty, story itself was kind of weak and more of a excuse to have Kratos and the kid go on a road trip, Mimir was a bro, didn't mind Kratos wasn't a screaming assblasted faggot, he got his revenge and felt guilty as shit about how he destroyed all of Greece over his revenge, so makes sense he isn't REEEEEEEEEEEING at everything and tries to rein in his anger a bit, plus that he isn't fucking sluts when his nuwife died a day beforehand and he has his kid with him constantly.
the combat isn't very complicated but its satisfying and weighty as fuck, and the flow between throwing your axe, fighting unarmed, then calling it back is pretty fucking fun
>they're valid cause i said them!
>Implying God of war ever had soul to begin with
Market trends? They went and stole the feel of resident evil 4, and the whole first half of the game is slowly re-introducing you to the classic God of war play.
Games probably trash on difficulties lower than maximum but they really put in the effort when it comes to combat variation through personal choice of upgrade selection. None of my friends or other people I've met managed to make a load out like mine. Super buffed up lazer blast that let's me end fights early if I can make sure I dont get one shot while doing it.
(You)
>Even compared to other GOW games its not great
Seems like the same amount of variety of locations to me. On a boat, in a temple, in Hell, etc.
>I was excited when I saw there were 4 or 5 other worlds to go into but when two of them were just cop out arena combat side mission stuff I was annoyed.
I can agree with that but it also built a lot of foreboding since we know in the sequels there will be more portals to go through.
>Also the boy is really poorly written.
What does that mean? Seemed like a kid to me.
The boy completely reverses his attitude when he finds out hes a god, then if you go and do sidequest material he doesnt have the attitude, then if you continue the main quest he does. Then he just reverts back to normal immediately after Hel. It would be better if the turn slowly took place over the course of 4-5 hours, but if you go from Freya to the mountain entrance the boy will immediately have the cutscene with the dwarf where he says that he doesnt need to care about little peoples problems. Its just extremely jarring and has no build up, it felt like a full 2 hours of content was planned to be there but they werent able to fit it in.
While given Ascension’s reputation they did need a shake up, how the gameplay feel compared to the older ones?
I really enjoyed the old combat.
And in regard to environments, 1 had the boat blockade stage, athens, the desert, tartarus, pandoras temple(this is arguably multiple different sections, considering the water stage, the cliff stage make up so much of the game), then hades, and back to Athens.
The new game has the forest area that doesnt feel all that different until the great lake, then that whole section of the game is very samey. I could see putting the mountain as a seperate area, and definitely the mine. But apart from Alfheim, the giants corpse and the puzzle temple area of the main hub I struggle to really think of that many areas that vary. Especially considering in GOW1 the areas differences translated into small gameplay tweaks. The desert is based on a mechanic not seen anywhere else in the game where you need to track down the sirens. Hades introduces new enemies and significantly harder climbing sections. Pandoras temple is full of puzzles not seen up until that point in the game.
3 is more similar to the new one, with the game only really taking place in 2-3 different aesthetic areas total.
with the blades of chaos the gameplay is pretty much the same desu, but since you were supposed to play with the axe they changed many things but it's a pretty good combat system
I continued on with the main story after the boy found out his origins, so I didn't experience that disconnect but you make a good point.
Ascension was the freshest in my mind and that was just embarrassingly bad. 3 was what I had in mind with the locations so that's how I pictured the variety of locations. With your other description is that all from the first one? I thought the desert with the sirens was in 2.
I really liked it, but I didn’t think it deserved goty, it was fun but it has zero replay value
I played it with a friend. Older games were more enjoyable.
Could have been one of the great, but as it stands it's "just" pretty good.
It was fun but the camera was definitely a hindrance at times. The Dark Elf boss fight in particular.
>The combat is just gimped souls
Souls games have a combo system?
this is one of those games that once you played it, you can easily spot those shitters who dont even own a ps4
the game is great, and it handles difficulty levels better than most modern games
I played for about 5 - 10 hours but dropped it. I thought it was boring and the enemies felt like damage sponges, but that might have been my fault for choosing Hard difficulty. Maybe it was funner in Normal.
