I still believe 7 is fundamentally better than 8 in many ways, people are just contrarian because muh console. 7 is one of the most solid entries in the series, 8 is hyper casualized. THat's saying something because its already a casual series.

Agreed. Controls are tight (personally, I always thought they were better than Wii's), amazing selection of retro tracks, portability before 8 Deluxe, and good online too. It's too bad the roster and a lot of the new tracks suck.
I miss playing this game with you fuckers.

It's physically painful to play, and it introduced the horrible glide & water sections. It at least good track selection & even original tracks. Much better package of 32 tracks than MK8.

We could play it right now
Not like i've got anything better to do

Yeah Lakitu picking you up immediately was a mistake. Not only does it make the game easier, it also removes many possiblities for shortcuts. All the shortcuts in 8 are intentional and save like 0.5 seconds.

I would start a lobby, but I'm at uni starting one of my morning classes now, and I'll be busy later today. I'd totally play right now if I wasn't so busy. Feels bad, man.

it's shit, just like every mario kart before and after
play a real powerup racer, not a thinly veiled party game for ages 3 and down

Sir I believe being a party game for 3 year olds is literally the appeal
Why suggest a completely different type of racing game

>being a party game for 3 year olds is literally the appeal

wipeout has all the same elements that mario kart has, aside from cute plumber boy
just put it on the lowest speed class and your 3-year old will eventually figure it out and have more fun

7 is easily one of the worst in the series. Everything that it introduced or brought back was shit and if 8 is worse it's because of the shit it kept from 7. Gliding is shit, underwater driving is shit, coins are shit, choosing parts with stats instead of just karts/bikes is shit, the tanooki tail is shit, the original tracks are shit, the roster is shit. Fuck 7.

Oh yeah an not having a fucking VS mode available in single player is especially SHIT. If I just want to play a particular track in 7 with cpus I have to do it via grand prix, which means for some tracks I have to play 3 other tracks before getting to the one I actually want to play.

>choosing parts with stats instead of just karts/bikes is shit
That's the only good thing it introduced aside from neo bowser city

DS is so much better that the shittalk is warranted

Piranha Plant Pipeway, Music Park Wario Shipyard, Wuhu Loop, and Maka Wuhu are good
Also I disagree, I liked the more distinct vehicles of DS and Wii

>wuhu stages
>good
Give me a fucking break. Sectioned tracks were a big fucking mistake. They make items like bananas essentially useless. Don't even get me started on the gliding section at the end of Maka Wuhu we're you can easily get fucked bigtime from being super vulnerable in the air right at the end of a lengthy track.

Just saying things are shit won't make them shit. You have to actually explain why

>pre-patch Maka Wuhu where everyone would jump into the river to skip the 2nd section

Gliding is an awful mechanic because being in the air makes you more vulnerable to items because now the time penalty of being hit is increased by the amount of time it takes you to fall to the ground. That time increase can be ridiculous on stages like Rock Rock Mountain or Maka Wuhu and there's nothing you can do to avoid or mitigate it because they're nearly always mandatory. Gliding could have been a fun mechanic if it was more of a risk/reward kind of thing where you could take certain shortcuts by gliding for longer but as it is gliding is very restrictive. There's very few shortcuts you can do by gliding without it deactivating automatically.

Underwater is an awful mechanic because in practice it just designates areas of the track where karts handle worse and therefore play worse. It also creates an inconsistency between new and old tracks where previously water served as a hazard but is now completely harmless. This isn't from 7 but in 8 Cheep Cheep Cape's last section with rising tides is completely ruined by this. Previously the water served as a soft hazard that slowed racers down and therefore added a risk/reward system where skilled player would know when to cut across during low tide but in 8 you can just cut through the water like it's not even there no matter what level the tide is.

Coins are shit because they punish players even more when they get hit, which is something that happens regularly in Mario Kart. They're also shit because a skilled player will know to get the coins while they're ahead to deprive them from the racers behind them, leading to situations where racers in the middle of the pack get less coins then the person in first which gives the first place racer an even bigger advantage and makes it harder for people to dethrone them without resorting to a blue shell.

I'll continue this in another post if anyone wants to here the rest.

I don't like it as much as pic related but it's still a fun time
