Where does the series go from here?

Mundus is defeated, Order of the Sword is dealt with, Vergil is presumably done as an antagonist. There are no villains left with any personal connection to Dante or Nero. Dante is so OP at this point that you'd have to make a massive asspull to fabricate a demon antagonist that is actually a threat to him.

New protagonists.

nero as an old man retriveing his father and uncle's weapons from hell after they die nero's son is there too

This was taken from 2006, realistically were would DMC rank in terms of quality among these other franchises now?

prequel with the legend of sparda

>Mundus is defeated
Mundus said he would come back

Zelda > Mario > Metroid > Castlevania > RE > Mega Man > Smash > DMC > Final Fantasy > Street Fighter > Metal Gear > Kingdom Hearts

>Mundus is defeated
Mundus was sealed, not defeated.

Ideally, it's over.

I wouldn't mind DMC5 being the last game if Capcom goes down the shitter again, DMC6 might be good but the series is in a great spot to end right now and I'd like Itsuno and co. to just keep feeding us content over time.

That's the beauty of the plot threads being tied up finally, it can go where the fuck ever

Sky's the goddamned limit

fair point
it'd be weird if he came back earlier than 2000 years or whatever, besides Dante has defeated multiple demon Kings by now so Mundus isn't exactly an interesting threat

I think a game about Nero doing literal monster of the week shit would be neat. Maybe a light over-arching plot culminating in him taken out a more powerful demon, but otherwise each mission could be an episode of him heading to a new locale and dealing with their troubles.

You're looking at this totally the wrong way

First, DMC4 proved that the villain don't need to be a threat to Dante personnally , just to humanity
Dante could have and did kick the Order's ass for free, we still had an entire game about it

Second of all they can invent new stuff and add to the lore, neither Fortuna or the Order existed before 4

The Governments of the world pursue the Sparda bros for... some reason. Nero's rival is a cyborg.

Fortuna and the Order only worked because they were relevant to Nero, the new protagonist. This kind of setup wouldn't really work again unless they introduce a new 3rd protag like V again.

Sparda comes back but he's evil now

Technology is getting to the point where it’s on par or straight up better than devil arms, see: Red Queen
Nico goes power hungry with the amount of red orbs we gave her and becomes unstoppable, next game’s main antagonist, protagonist is dantes daughter

They were hinting at mundus in the novel and now that itsuno brought back dante and vergil and they're working together together, they might do something with him.

Shady government summons demons as an alternative to nuclear warfare, Dante & Vergil are too busy fighting each other in hell to deal with it, so Nero goes. He meets cyborg rival, they throw around bants & fight a bit. Shady Government summons superdemon that kills the baddies, Nero and cyborg stop it. The end.
Also there's another tauric demon like Berial and people make porn of him

>my Vergil fag fanfiction game
I want Dante to have a daughter but is raised by Vergil because Dante dies or some shit at the start of the game by returning Mundus.
Vergil is main character have bosses be Nelo Angelo Nero and other shit
Vergil starts redeeming himself as a character as the game goes on.
Vergil dies at the end of the game too but not before giving Yamato to dantes kid.
Next game main charters are Nero and Dantes kid but they both have the opposite personalities of those who influenced them

Red Queen is only good because Nero is an Unga and any other (human) person's arms would be blown off (same with Blue Rose, and all of the Breakers)

At the end of the first game, Mundus was defeated and Vergil was dead. This did not hamper the sequels in any way.

Actually they went on to make a game about a villain Dante had no ties to and it was godawful. Then they prequeled the next game to tie it back in to Vergil because they needed something that had more emotional stakes to Dante.
