Phantasy Star Online 2

PSO2 launched in 2012. Why is there not a decent / better clone of it yet?

Probably because it's trash.

Phantasy Star Universe emulation (Clementine) is coming soon™, and PSU was better than PSO2 is now (though it wasn't better than PSO1)
I really hope they get it to a workable beta sometime reasonably soon, though the fact that they've gotten that far in the first place is a miracle in itself, so much to recreate from jury rigged code

Its fine, and braver class is fun as hell. Just download the tweaker and your retarded ass can download and install the game easily.

its crazy that no one has topped it yet really

It's not.

PSO2 is better than PSU. And if you think PSO1 was better that's just nostalgia talking. As a game to play daily for years, PSO2 surpasses PSO1. Original still has some things better like aesthetics though.

I do play it, I'm wondering why it's the only game like it though. I want something closer to vanilla PSO2 not current CUHRAZY PSO2

i'd love just a remaster pso1, with added content and real online multiplayer

if you want closer to vanilla PSO2 play Portable 2

I don't remember why, maybe it was the controls, but I fucking hated the portable series so much.

PSO2 is probably better than PSU gameplay wise, but it feels corporate and cold. I can appreciate PSO2's good side, its story, the endgame, the fact its still alive, but I have never felt the warmness that I felt playing PSO or PSU. Perhaps I'm just getting old and its nostalgia talking.

I loved portable 2. I lost my old save and my PSP is falling apart though, at least PSP emulation is as good as it is.

western release any day now

>PSU
Let me guess, it was your first PS and you played the free trial on xbox?

but there is a better clone of it

portable 2 is the real sequel to PSO though, it has similar gameplay just with universe aesthetic, it even has all the same old items from PSO and some new ones, along with costumes and waifus, literally the perfect continuation of the first game. PSO2 is just some loot shooter tier shit in comparison

Added content means nothing to a game where you power level to 200+ in a few hours and only play the mission to fight all the bosses.

"Why has nothing cloned this popular game in the 7 years since it's been released?"
>everyone starts naming older games in the same franchise

Simply epic.

PSO2 is not better than PSU.

the only issue I have with pso2 is how often collabs are and there really isn't a whole lot of ARKS themed costumes especially for males and that the story went to complete garbage during ep4. I get that ep5 is supposed to be a throwback to the older Phantasy star RPGs but fuck dude I want to go back to space especially after the dogshit earth anime episode 4.

How is Nova? I'm planning on playing it.

PSO2 has gotten pretty stupid with its outfits and with its damage numbers, but considering its been out since 2012 I can't complain much. Vanilla PSO2 is 100% a decent evolution of PSO1 though. Better than PSU

I wish we'd get PSO3 which would just reset the numbers and remove the fucking VITA limitations

We'll never get that.

The worst part about PSO2 is that over time they have probably become way too reliant on otaku money. Some of the outfits are one thing but shit like the derivative "idol" dances are terrible and I don't know if they'll want to move away from that in a sequel.

Me too. I miss slower PSO2 (not PSO1 PSU level though)

I wouldn't say never. PSO2 won't last forever and assuming a PSO3 comes out, they aren't going to start out with you doing 900,000 damage per second.

Unlikely, PSO2 is a free cash crop as this point, especially with all of it's adaptions and tie-ins from different shows. It's why there was the announcement for the Switch version even. It's not going anywhere anytime soon and I wouldn't be surprised if it makes it to 15 years.

The new director will save us with SPACE GUNDAM FIGHTS

ep6 will be in space
you also basically get to pilot a gundam
im not joking

I know, I've been keeping up I still hate that after ep4 they threw us into another non space setting even if it was reference to old PS games.

No but really why has there not been a PSO2 clone since its release.

What's the closet thing, western or eastern? Destiny or whatever "loot shooter" is nothing like PSO2 so don't say that.

can someone post that phantasy star setup on the dream cast with the keyboard and it's plugged into the tv and it looks really nice?

agree, 4 was a shitshow until the very end, but deus was fucking awesome
i didn't think 5 was that bad, it just feels a little rushed and lacking because of the backlash people had from hero and all that, the best thing to come out of 5 is hands down omega masquerade, easily one of the best boss fights in the game and series

>PSP2i's english patch is still going fucking nowhere
fucking hell man, I'm not playing that shit with my face glued to a .pdf guide trying to decipher moon runes
I would have started learning japanese if I had known, I'd probably be fluent before they're even close to finishing that stupid fucking patch

Deus was alright sega still blowing up the fucking moon. 5 had ok parts I liked that every old falz hunar form thing got a buffed version. The Dark blast stuff is kinda eh but yeah Masquerade is cool I just hate that Elmir was omega persona

Ok.

Whenever I got burned out I tried to find some replacement, but in the end would still coming back to PSO2.
I enjoyed God Eater games but they won't last too long due to being mainly SP games.

GE is way more like MH than PSO2. I don't know why nothing similar has been made.

non-anime based sequel when

>PSO/U without the anime
are you retarded

Without as much anime. Reduce the current "95% of outfits and lobby actions are straight from idol groups" to maybe 60%

Isn't Xenoblade Chronicles X a 99% clone of it?

Just got a rare rifle (Visk) from a red box today in PSO. Feels good man.

its called phantasy star online 1

I don't know, is it? Being single player is more than 1% but the battles look maybe similar, minus the garbage UI.

Is there loot?

everything is better than garbage korea-enchanting-system psu

Nah. I hated a lot of shit about PSU, but one of the things it really got right was atmosphere and worldcrafting.
You can argue whether or not you think shit like SAKURA NUMAN WORLD was a good thing or not, but it was the only entry that put actual effort into shit like racial culture and such.
That and even though field lobbies are the most retarded design decision in an online game ever, it was still somehow straight-up comfy.

No. Play IDOLA instead.

>all these pso/psu fags
>games were all about grinding over and over for that super rare drop
>yet reddit constantly bitches about legendaries not being shoved into their throats in anthem
Is phantasy star actually a niche game now?

PS is always a niche games.

They're pushing a new test server to replace the current live server soon. Expect big changes.

Just the fact that anyone says "phantasy star" and defaults to thinking "the online games" means it's niche as hell now.

how is PSU gameplay speed compared to pso / bb? I tried to play ephinea recently and thought it was way too slow

I found Xenoblade X to feel more like PSO than PSO2. PSO2 just... Doesn't feel like anything. It feels like a mess? I guess? The disregard for strategy, for other play styles than melee, the gacha garbage. I dunno, I tried PSO2 for a while and was just hating it more overall than I was liking it. I definitely miss games in this genre though.

PSO2 around launch just felt like a faster PSO1 to me. When you try to play it now, the damage numbers and chaotic movement / skills make it kind of messy. It's still fun but would prefer some kind of reset

Considerably faster. Slower than PSO2 though. More emphasizes the RPG part of action/RPG, I'd say.

Yeah I could kind of see that too. When PSO2 first came out and was in the beta, I remember playing it and being really impressed. I remember thinking, "Wow this engine is really cool! It's really dry and barebones right now, and doesn't have any complexity to it, but I can't wait to see what they add to make it feel more like PSO/U!"

And then they never did.
