I actually thought it was pretty alright.
Given that it's a console game from 2008 the raw fidelity of the graphics is ass, but the color pallet is solid and isn't just all brown and the textures aren't that bad on acccount of the LOD for far-off stuff. The gameplay had a few neat ideas as well like scavenging ammo, the necter boost, the necter weak spots on soldiers, nectar grenades, planting grenades so they act as mines, etc. Being able to play dead was also cool since it was a nice way of breaking up the monotony of constantly hiding behind cover which typically happens with regenrating health and I really like how they also worked it into the story so there was a reason why you could just play dead. I also really liked how they don't give any indication for when your grenade is going to blow up. I wish we had more time to play with the necter boost as a soldier though, the story "twitst" came on a little too early.
Haze is probably the "safest" out of all the launch era ps3 fpses like it, resistance, timeshift, turok, etc, but I feel like the shooting mechanics are the best of the bunch which is why I still find it fun to play. The sound design is also fucking fantastic

Only notable thing was then, when fighting against the army bros, they’d yell “take that, you freakin’ liberal” when they threw a grenade your way.

great ideas, poor execution, dead online. me and a friend used to boot it up just to play with the multiplayer bots because they were batshit insane. they would run straight for the rocket launchers and literally patrol the entire map, stalking you. if you poked your head out near them, you would be assaulted by a swarm of missiles. shit was so cash and challenging at times.

they literally tried hyping it up as a halo killer and it was so crap it killed the studio. besides being functionally broken and butt ugly even at the time of release, the plot sucked. literally the only cool aspect to it, the fact that you were a drugged up super soldier who only gets to see the true reality for a few glimpses at a time when overdosing on the drug you regularly take was thrown out due to the fact that after only a very short amount of time, you stop being the drugged up supersolider. oh and the other drugged up supersoldiers? obnoxious frat boys. makes sense for the plot but you want to kill them even before the "twist" that they're the bad guys. and i say "twist" because they revealed it in the marketing.

What's next Lair remastered?
