Usually cool shit and if i like how it plays i stick or move on. In GG i played Faust/Potemkin and eventually picked up Ky who after Faust i love a lot. A giant scalpel asshole with big pokes , a honorabu dude with godlike colors and the grappler. In UNIST Enkidu boiz with Waldstein cus grappler. In KOF Heidern King Geese cus cool af

I guess to summarize i just pick whoever is cool af looking and easy/fundamental heavy. I don't mind if they're shitty tier list wise i just like learning games with cool looking characters where i can atleast do damage from making decisions and its not locked behind learning some setplay or specific execution shit and that is optional for later.

If you want to win, you will have an Iori. His move set by itself is so unique and good that the only thing that changes from game to game is where he is on your team. It's kinda like how everyone had a pocket E. Ryu in USFIV, or how everyone had a Sentinel in MVC2/3.
