From what I've heard, Scarlet Grace has lifted off the general feel and some mechanics from Last Remnant, but that's the extent of what I know. But yeah, IX is taking place in Barduk, the Prison City, and I'm hyped for all that sweet Gothic architecture to climb.

Falcom has stated that the games are just retellings decades after the events of what Adol wrote down in his adventure diary which ends with him going to the north pole at 60 years old and never returning. The Trails in the Sky Trilogy and the Zero/Ao duology make up their second flagship franchise, so check them out. Cold Steel is polarizing, but you might like it or not after playing the previous games. Zwei II, Gurumin, and Xanadu Next are worth looking into and playing as well.

The gameplay loop is the "do X so Y happens so you have to do X again", not necessarily just the gameplay. The gameplay would be the battling. The gameplay loop would be the running around battling to craft/get survivors, so you can run around more. It's a poor loop.

Some people need a nudge, a push, and sometimes a hard reality check that their favorite game series are dead and it's time to adventure on to new games. Shit sucks bro, I can relate, but it's a catharsis that must be purged eventually.

For me, it was peak Adol. Him adventuring into unknown lands, slicing up monsters to killer music, fighting off some of the most challenging bosses I've ever faced, and just the general feel of it, I guess. Ark kinda did that too, but the combat and speed was kinda limited in comparison.

Disgaea always changes slower than other JRPG series because NIS is conservative with the gameplay changes, but the evolution is there. If you don't believe me, then compare D1 with D5 and you will see how much the gameplay improved. It is always slowly with Disgaea, but I find it better for the sake of stability.

Adding many new features each new game while mostly ignoring the groundwork of past games is one of the things that killed Final Fantasy, Chrono and other JRPG series.

Please don't tell me that you consider gambling hundreds to thousands of dollars for PNGs real games. And Neptunia is the poster-child for bottom-of-the-barrel weeb games that appeal to otakus with no real gameplay. There's a reason every Nep thread turns into a waifudump, I think.

It has a better feel of a world and adventure than Origin, but Origin was more streamlined, for better or worse.
Level design I would heavily dispute, some sections just are straight corridors and clunky platforming sections that you can just feel was an ill-fated attempt at staying loyal to Wanderer's side-scrolling environments, Origin's levels may get a bit repetitive but their overall structure is solid.

Yunica plays great (essentially Oath Adol with better magic) while Hugo's gameplay is a mismatched Pocky & Rocky mess (nothing wrong with P&R, but holy fuck does it not work in Ys), going with Yunica first is definitely the best option.

Ys is considered a classic in Japan but the SNES games sort of soiled its reputation, then it stayed niche after its resurgence because it was PC exclusive. It's climbing back into popularity over there though, but it will likely stay niche in the west since Falcom will never be able to grafics

Dude, that's fucking fine. The Ark games were designed to be run on mid-2000's Windows-era toasters (like 2005-2006), so you should be okay. The modern games, not so much, I think. Chronicles might work as well, though.

Only the sword is slower, the axe is the same damn speed and her spells are straight up an improvement in terms of combat functionality. You can even tell by comparing them directly in the Arena.

Her scenario is the most "vanilla" and is a good introduction to all the essential characters, Hugo's is only good for building on Epona and showing that a) Toal is probably a good guy and b) the Fact clan is probably dodgy as hell (as if you needed the scenario to figure that shit out). Of the two, Yunica's is the most balanced, Hugo's scenario just shows that he's a tool who steals weapons from ghosts and chooses evil at the drop of a hat.

Sonoda's arrangement of Ancient Legend stands out the most
