I didn't buy a fighter pass because I don't agree with the concept of "season pass" DLC

Especially in this case because I have no idea who the DLC characters are going to be. First two I'm already not interested in, and it's looking like further DLC are either going to be more Fire Emblem shilling or advertising for other games.

Same here. I was set eternally in Smash 4 with Megaman and Little Mac being my most wanteds. K Rool was the icing on the cake. There are still characters I would enjoy of course like Wonder Red, Ryu Hyabusa, Saki, but I'm more than satisfied as is. I'm holding off buying the fighter pass soley out of fear of Minecraft, but even then I wouldn't be angry, I just wouldn't buy it

RE doesn't seem like the type of franchise that has a Pikachu-tier mascot that encompasses the whole franchise. Wikipedia lists Chris, Jill and even fucking Ada as mascots. All the reoccurring protags are presented on equal footing but I think Leon's the most likely because of REmake 2 and RE4

Adeleine is never acknowledged in anything Sakurai had a major hand in developing. If anything, this proves that Sakurai views Shimomura's Kirby games the same way Miyamoto views R&D1's Mario games.

To visualize, imagine if there was an American game that was suddenly ignoring America's tastes and instead tailoring the game for the Latin American audiences because they are half the audience, the /pol/ comments you could imagine in this situation are the sort of thing you can see read right now about the DLC of Super Smash Bros, albeit written in more polite words.

I worry the feeling of rage might be intensified depending on the pick. Another Square Enix character would likely not be a big deal, unlike what some anons think, especially Geno, Sora less so. But if its a western character, I think the context of the situation will only turn more poisonous, Japan has good will towards Crash Bandicoot and Banjo, but I think it would lead to a lot of noise.
