I will start
Niche games/series thread
>one of the best selling games of all time
>niche
It is niche tho and its not one of the best selling games of all time lol where did you unearth this info?
waiting for you to start OP
already did
no you didnt
>Myst was the bestselling PC game throughout the 1990s until The Sims exceeded its sales in 2002
Fucking zoomers.
How about you pull your head out of your ass and post a game
Call of Duty
Can people get into the Myst series easily tho? Myst series=Niche as fuck. They are hard to imposible to finish without using a walkthrough
Dwarf fortress.
The Myst series is actually quite easy compared to other point and click adventure games. No pixel hunting or bullshit logic. As long as you don't have a sub 100 IQ, you would be able to beat it without a walkthrough.
Puzzles that rely on sounds are bullshit
t. low IQ
You are an ACTUAL retard if your baby brain is too small to beat Myst.
t.zero arguements
I remember in Myst IV recreating the sound of some monkeys in order to scatter them from the totem poles they were sitting, was absolute turd. Only the 2 handles were useful out of the 3. The one useless handle was there to fuck up your shit.
I don’t think half the people that bought it actually played it extensively. It’s sounds silly, but there was something about Myst in the 90s that it just “looked cool”. I was really young when it came out, and just clicking around exploring the island was fun, even if you didn’t quite understand what was going on.
That island has such an alluring presence.
>Actual programming usurped by reality TV
How difficult is this game?
Yes, this is my fav part from the series. There's something mystical about the games aesthetics. It truly feels like an original fantasy setting coming straight out of the mind of an old and forgotten author. Too bad that some puzzles really fuck up the game's pace
The Sims was fucking monumental when it came out, my dude.
in general, pretty self explanatory. you might want a paper for one or two dates, also listen to dialogue. the sequel is kino but also where the real bullshit begins
It relies to your observation skills. Its not impossible but you need to dedicate some thinking time in order to put the pieces together. Also you gonna have to accept the fact that you gonna stuck to some puzzles for a long time. The new gen of gamers dont really have what it takes to play these games so in my opinion they can be considered as niche genre. My advice is to treat games like this as a secondary game and dont hesitate to keep notes. Also if you dont have the time to play them all, play Myst:Riven. Its the best game of the series.
Riven was niche, literally the only game of its kind. It's virtual archaeology essentially.
Besides that fucking maze bullshit and the keyboard bit, it's not bad if you're taking notes. I'd hesitate to go "durr its easy mode", but it really relies on you being someone taking notes as if you're actually on the island. The entire series is about books and notes and words, so it makes sense for you to have some.
Very niche
are you possibly confusing old and niche?
>very nice u mean
I still play lan with some pals. Minecraft never stopped being a comfy game. At least the autistic kids moved to BR games so less griefing
niche as fuck
Nope. Niche=a game that is hard to get into but has a small hardcore fanbase to keep it alive.
Even back then when it was popular it was hard to get into. I heard stories from people that bought it and dropped it half way. Also this kind of difficulty made this genre to die thus closing the doors to the new gen of gamers. Its not like an og fps like quake that a old and a new player can enjoy equally.
A proper niche series would be for example Europa Universalis. Not this lame 90s(!!!) point and click puzzle bullshit that literally no one plays (because its old, not niche)
Yeah sure 200iq faggot. Even the publishers of the steam versions know that people get frustrated and look for walkthroughs and hints online so they have added an in game hint guide in the Steam version.
>Paranigger
True I tried to get into this game, but it felt impossible
>Inb4 smart niggas telling me that this game is easy as well
