But that's not what dexterity means. Any reasonable system would use STR for speed as well as raw power. Dexterity is how agile and maneuverable you are. Finesse would come into play when you want to strike a specific spot effectively. If anything DEX would be for determining your ability to connect with vital areas and get crits.

I would say it's because of diminishing returns. A more "advanced lifeform" has more advanced means of capturing prey. Venom/chemical warfare is probably very "expensive" biologically and becomes simply unnecessary when you're one of the larger creatures in the food chain and you can just use claws, teeth, or brainpower to get what you want.

Platypus is the only "large" creature with venom that I can think of. When you are small like an insect you need something super powerful like venom to get what you want.

They'd only be broken if it's a one-sided DEX check for crits. Other factors such as opponent's DEX and whether they're caught unaware should matter as well. The point is that dexterity really has little to do with speed past a certain point. A minimum of DEX is needed to coordinate yourself and move effectively, but it should meet diminishing returns just as STR would.
