On December 3, 2015 Mario and Luigi Paper Jam the biggest waste of potential was released on 3ds. Tell me is there any hope for either of these series?

I have zero hope for Paper Mario at this point but I'm fully expecting a Mario and Luigi on switch that finally beckons back to the stronger games in the series after one subpar game, one remake, and one bad remake.

I'm hoping for a Mario and Luigi title on switch but I won't hold my breath.

Fuck you, you're getting a Tomato Adventure remake instead

R-right thanks nintenbro!

>the biggest waste of potential
But that's not Super Paper Mario, te third entry in a solid series that somehow managed to be worse than the soulless 2D Mario on the system and all Mario RPGs at the same time

That's fine too, seemed like a pretty interesting game and Alphadream could use some time away from the M&L series.

Are you including Sticker Star and Color Splash in that statement?

>either of the remakes being bad
Both remakes were superior to the original games.

unironically soulless

>entire new modes added, both of which have some of the strongest writing in M&L
>added continuity between SSS and BIS
>tutorials now optional
>can view the map in SSS
>added giant bowser gauntlet in BIS
>fixed fawful's battle theme in SSS, as well as added battle themes in BIS
I'm sorry, but the remakes literally added more content and more strong writing to the games. You can think there's no reason to buy them if you have the originals, sure, but there's literally no reason to think they're worse than the originals unless you're a nostalgiafag.

Paper Jam makes me livid. Alpha dream had tons to pull from both series, but decided to pull all of PM's elements from Sticker Star, and literally nothing from M&L. This game had so much potential to be great, but only going with the most basic characters and enemies from the mainline game while adding nothing new gimped it from the start.

It has nothing; no story aside from "hurrdurr Bowser stole Peachx2, no unique ideas, and nothing representing either series the crossover is supposed to represent. I'm not asking for a FawlfulxDimentio tag team or anything fanservicey like that, but give us SOMETHING. What a waste of dev time.

The BiS remake is without a doubt a downgrade from the original
>instead of getting a buttery smooth 60fps like the SS remake, BiS runs at 30fps with fucking drops, this is unacceptable for a 3DS game in 2019
>little overlooked things that make the game seem rushed like being able to save anywhere being gone, the dark star bug not making any sounds when transforming, and the final bit where Bowser kicks the shit out of Dark Bowser doesn't have the music fade out anymore and ruins the moment entirely
>loading times are much longer than the original somehow, despite it being a remaster that should strive to improve or at the very least stay on par with this sort of thing
>watered down soundtrack with a lot of straight up downgraded tracks, the whole soundtrack doesn't have the fun bouncy feel it used to have
>a lot of sound effects were changed for the worse and don't pack the same feeling that they were going for
all of that on top of the fact that you can play the original on the 3DS with no issue makes it an inferior experience to the original. The only thing it did right was make the game look nicer but it wasn't worth it with the performance issues and loading times.

SSS and SSSDX are interchangeable. BIS is objectively worse.

This is the only right answer, it's obvious the BiS remake was rushed out despite it being shown many months before release which is baffling.

Honestly it pisses me off because, here's the thing: I genuinely wouldn't mind a Mario RPG based solely and containing only elements from the platformer games. Paper Jam had really cool elements; the Koopalings' personalities, King Bob-omb, the Chargin' Chuck boss, King Boo, that shit was cool, and none of it was original, per se. It was putting RPG spins on existing stuff. The problem is that everything else was so fucking bland.

Take Sticker Star. I didn't hate Sticker Star because it didn't have new original characters. Paper Mario 64 had almost entirely characters that came from the platformers and existing Mario games, and that was a great game. The difference is that Paper Mario 64 was interesting, and it had personality. Sticker Star just copy/pasted regular Mario shit, and didn't have the great stuff Paper Mario 64 had in addition.

Paper Jam, aside from the great music, has no personality. It's the shitty, lazy, sterilized Sticker Star shit infecting a new series entirely. I mean, I didn't care for Dream Team, but at least it was fucking original, right? I really hope Alphadream forgets that game existed.

I personally never noticed any frame drops.
I agree with your point on the end of the Dark Bowser fight, but I don't think that was laziness, I think the dev team probably thought it'd be more climactic for some reason. I also don't like how you can't save anywhere.
I actually liked the new soundtrack a lot. I prefer the newer versions of the boss themes and In the Final, and the new tracks are really great. I know many disagree with me but, yeah, the newer soundtrack makes me happier. (Except for the Inside version of Bowser's Castle, that shit was grating.)
What sound effects are you talking about in particular?

>objectively
Discarded.

>make the game look nicer
Nah fuck that. The ds sprites were fucking GOAT and way better the new paper jam blurry sprites
Especially bowser

The sprites look worse but the backgrounds look better is how I should've worded it.

Sure, PJ has shit worlds, story and pads out time with minigames and Toads but the game has easily the best combat in the entire series.
The enemies have creative patterns that require thinking and attention and the bosses are amazing

>What sound effects are you talking about in particular?
a little bit of everything but my pick would be a lot of the new sound effects for special attacks, they don't pack the same punch as before, at least for me.

Preachachu

Sticker Star and Color Splash are actually Mario games. SPM is just Mario pasted into some shitty RPGs story that has ansolutely nothing to do with him.
