Now that Smash Ultimate is out for quite some months, what about we rate the newcomers PLAYSTYLES. I'm not talking about the characters themselves, but how fun they are to play as and/or against and what do they bring in Smash.
Pic related for is me. Ridley is biggest let down. Probably expected way to much when Sakurai always give the Metroid rep the middle finger.
>Ridley >Disappointment Everyone was expecting him to be shit but he's solid as fuck and fun to use.
Zachary Gonzalez
I'm talking about the playstyle here, you mongoloid. I don't care about your raging hate boner autism.
I'm glad you like him. I just find Ridley to have a really weird feeling in general. His multiple jumps and Up-B are really unsatisfying imo. His down B is impracticable and don't mix well with the rest of his kit and his grab don't feels as powerfull as Bowser, Ganon or Incineroar.
Aaron Rodriguez
Ridleys moveset is amazing. Not talking balance wise, but concept and representation of the character wise. He feels fucking brutal. I love it.
Noah Gray
>His multiple jumps and Up-B are really unsatisfying imo. They're high risk/high reward intended to allow you to chase off stage, but not for free. Up-B is awkward, but from a distance and when placed correctly, deals enough damage and knockback to scare people away. The grab is intended to force these situations at mid-high percentages.
David White
>Most fun Chrom, King K Rool, Daisy >Decent Inkling, Richter/Simon, Ridley >Boring Isabelle, Plant, Dark Samus, Ken, Baracat
Christian Torres
Sakurai probably thought >I fucking hate Metroidfags so fucking much
Evan Cruz
I like the way the Belmonts play. Plant and Incineroar are disappointing, while Daisy and Dark Samus might as well not exist and Isabelle is even more boring than Villager once the novelty of fishing hook ledge traps wears off. Rest are good though.
Connor Hall
Incineroar is very fun to play as, though I wish he was slightly faster since every fucking character in the game can camp him so easily.
>Dark Samus >Good >Literally just a reskin of regular Samus with the most inconsequential differences Dark Samus just convinced me that echos are the most worthless addition to this game, and I'd take one semi-clone over every echo we got.
>Plant and Incineroar are disappointing Are they disappointing because you don't like their playstyle/archetype or because you were expecting something else from them ? i'm genuinely curious because i think, they're depictions in Smash is pretty much perfect from what they are in their respective games.
Andrew Scott
I have wanted Ridley for at least a decade and I main him, I love his kit. My only real issues with it are his up-b being utterly bizarre instead of just omnidirectional and his dair being utter shit with a hitbox vastly smaller than fucking Yoshi's for some reason. Other than that I love him and have rocked elite smash with him just fine, maybe he could be a touch heavier or have his down b break shields or something.
Warioware has always been considered one of the smaller continuing franchises Nintendo has. It's extremely unlikely it'll get another rep and even then she'd be competing with Mike, Mona and the Volt Family.
Geno unironically has a better shot then her since he has the nostalgia/obscure factor that Sakurai loves so much. And Geno has no shot.
Ryan Reyes
Baracat Is mostly a Yea Forums wet dream Not much into wrestling, but when I studied the moveset and the ispiration of them it's a fucking awesome Also the way it was received strangely mimicks how Inceneroar's archetype in wrestling is seen
Brandon Cox
>Isabelle is a semi-clone >Dark Samus is an echo Seriously should have been the other way around.
Chase Cook
WHIRRR
Caleb James
That's sort of the point. They exist as just fan service put in the last minute because they take no time.
Sakurai has said that they could make around 7 echo fighters in the same length it takes to make one new fighter.
Tyler King
DS could've been an entirely new character with most of her moveset being totally original but I'm still glad she got in.
Any every single one of them is pointless and add nothing to the game. That same development time could have been one character with a new playstyle. I'd remove all echos if it meant just getting more alt costumes for regular characters.
Adrian Ward
I initially hated the idea of Baracat being in the game but he's the one that has by and far grown on me the most. Not my favorite but a great addition.
Brandon Gomez
Just the way they play, as representations they’re fine. Plant has too much jank wrong with him to be anything but a joke low tier (like MASSIVE hurtboxes, he’s like a sword without the disjoints), and not an explosive fun one like the heavies either. Incineroar has such a god awful recovery and limited air options it feels like I’m playing a super slow Little Mac half the time.
Justin Wright
She's a minor character from a minor series
Nolan Roberts
Dark Samus is the only disappointment. The assist trophy was more unique.
Evan Ramirez
>That same development time could have been one character with a new playstyle. Except by the time they were added it was way to late to add anymore true newcomers. They've literally did all they were able for newcomers. They are the last minute additions that take no time now that the game development is coming to a close.
William Reyes
>four games later and he still thinks clones eat up significant development time and aren't last minute additions
James Powell
Shouldve been Starman.
Xavier Russell
Again, I'd prefer more alternate costumes for the rest of the cast if echoes are just going to serve as aesthetic differences. The number in this game is pathetic.
Jose Murphy
>hated Incinoroar's reveal since his design and his games are a clusterfuck >now have him as a secondary just by how fun he actually plays I don't know about you guys but killing someone at 30% feels really satisfying
Honestly I was the opposite. I was super hyped for ridley and Simon but ended up maining k rool. Ridley is my secondary tho
Liam Torres
>geno fag every time
Cameron Smith
Eh, I agree alt costumes would be neat but echoes have extra flavor to them with different animation, taunts and so on. More alt. costumes would be appreciated though, yes.
Connor Cook
I just used Geno as an example since he's a pretty big NEVER EVER to explain to user how unlikely Ashley getting in is.
>Absolutely needs Buffs Ridley K. Rool PP >Slight buffs Belmont Isabelle Incineroar >Fix hitboxes/make them more like their clones DS Daisy >Mild nerf Inkling >I don't know enough about them to form an opinion Ken Chrom
Noah Lopez
I like Inkling's movement, it feels like Melee.
I don't play King K Rool as often as I did at launch, but I love his aerials and the succ.
Ridley's edgeguarding alone makes him worth playing.
It's cool that the Belmonts are in but their playstyle is so fucking cancerous and brainless that it almost makes me resent their presence in the game as a whole.
Nathan Gutierrez
Why didn't they spend 5 minutes making lucina and marth actually different?
Cooper Barnes
You are wrong if you think the majority of the Smash playerbase cares more about "unique playstyles" than playing as a character they have personal investment in. Smash sells because of fanservice, not because of its gameplay.
Most fans of the characters that became echoes don't give a shit that they're nearly identical to another character. They're just happy to finally play as the one they like the most in their own games.
John Martin
Not him but you can make the argument that despite being a slightly worse Peach, Peach herself is considered one of the top characters of the game and thus could do with a slight nerf while also fixing the hitbox of her animations to be more like Peach's.
Jeremiah Harris
To be fair, playing them against players who know the matchup or in tournament play is much more difficult.
They do have some pretty execution heavy combos too.
Ken and Ryu are both rather disappointing honestly.
Their combo game and kill power aren't too great, and their recoveries are easy to punish.
Also that "always face your opponent" mechanic hurts them a lot right now.
Josiah Howard
It certainly doesn't
Nolan Bell
You sure? Not being able to do instant back airs out of a short hop seems pretty bad.
Luke Miller
>Has a bigger hitbox while hurtbox is the same as Peach's It's not even an argument, she's objectively worse. Not by much and only super autistic tourneyfags will care but it still gives her a very slight disadvantage overall.
Cooper Butler
>Also that "always face your opponent" mechanic hurts them a lot right now Literally why did they do this? I know that's how they work in SF and it sounded like a cool idea but it sucks.
Chrom's F-Smash and F-tilt are insane, and could use some knockback reduction.
Isaiah Hughes
The same reason why characters like Little Mac are entirely designed around being grounded even though character's get the most benefits from performing well in the air.
It really wouldn't be as much of an issue if they could instantly RAR if they initial dashed forward and then instantly backdashed within the first few frames, seeing as it already goes basically nowhere as it is Personally I like the autoturnaround because I can cross someone up and immediately start pressuring with light tilts without fearing that I fucked up and did them in the wrong direction In any case I love the concept, but there's a couple things I hope get ironed out and fixed in future patches
Cross ups are a fundamental part of SF play, so that is a good use of the turn around mechanic.
Hopefully they do keep improving it in future patches.
Aiden Ross
its also because 90% of the cast has up and down smashes that hit both sides of them and ryu and ken do not
Anthony Richardson
Huh, didn't know about this new info. Thanks for letting me know.
Xavier Johnson
Being able to always punish rolls, true tatsu back on stage, perform perfect inputs, and having the best foxtrot in the game Nah the pros outweigh the cons
Cooper Ward
Yeah, he’s the heel, and people hate him just as they’d hate a heel
Thomas Rodriguez
they just need to give him an option to turn off the auto turn around mechanic at free will, while giving him his jank hitboxes, give his frame 3 invincible shoryu back, give him back his frame 2 downtilt back, and he might actually stand a chance.
John Hall
>frame 2 downtilt back The shotos still have that, but some weirdass buffering in the game makes it frame 3 if it's the first down tilt you did, same thing happens to jab and up tilt The frame 4 invincible Shoryu and in Ryu's case, some reduced hitboxes really do hurt though
Christopher Young
Good, let Bayo rot
Zachary Murphy
>Plant >Mediocre Are you okay user? You may have bumped your head by accident
Ian Murphy
It has a cool moveset but its so awful that its hard to enjoy.
