It was pretty great. Back before school teachers would confiscate all of your shit and just tell you to put it away instead, so you'd be able to sneak in some pokemon all throughout the day. And since everyone was a dumb kid it took all of us forever to actually beat the game so it was like a real journey.

GSC are really comfy games, you can just kinda pick away at your dex or at exploring different areas and always feel like you're getting something new out of it. The fantastic color pallet and music help that out, too. Pokedex is at 182, I'm getting closer!

I really liked X and Y. The online features that let you see trainer info and greetings and stuff from people all around the world as you just went about your business and played at your leisure was very neat. Tossing some pokemon into wondertrade was a fun way to kill some time when the game's pace started slowing and all the trainer fashion kept me hooked because I'm weak to dress-up simulators.

I use to draw Pokemon all the time for friends in school. I was shit at it to be honest, but I was still better than any of the other kids. People would request me to draw their favorites from memory, and I would leave some details out every now and then but it was cool. The grill I had a crush on asked me to draw a Raichu for her one day. Raichu has remained one of my favorites since then.

It's my biggest pet peeve with gaming when companies take steps backwards. Sure it's not a big thing but why undo your accomplishments? Back in the day when they were limited in their development by time, hardware resources, money, and had small teams, all those tiny features were added just to make the game that much better. Sure making it night at night doesn't have a huge impact on gameplay. But they still did it. It felt like they actually gave a damn.

Hoenn and Sinnoh were by far the best regions even with their flaws imo.
The water in Hoenn was such a great idea but the variety completely killed all enjoyment. Can't believe they didn't even bother trying to fix it in ORAS.
Similarly Sinnoh is just too fucking slow, and then you have shit like the timewasting mud and snow that halts progress for the sake of halting progress.
Still love the settings and somewhat interconnected nature of the regions though. Route 119-121 in Hoenn is the best stretch in the series.

That excuse only works so much. My kid cousins could pick up and play older pokemon games no problem but when I gave them newer ones to try out the prolonged introduction sequences and longer time till gameplay made them get bored and drop them before they even really started.

Pokemon games are in a weird middleground. They're not something you can just jump into for quick bursts like Mario, but they're also too simple compared to other RPGs. Not to mention older gens have even less to go back to. I got spoiled by Stadium and emulators so I can't stand playing the games due to how slow they are.

Here's the real problem. I'm emulating Crystal and playing it in parallel with my girlfriend. I set up the emulator because she asked me to after seeing me play it (She's a huge fan of Pokemon anyhow). Within a half hour she started hitting the fast forward button and all I did was show her the basic controls. Said she'd played the fuck out of it as a kid and got sick of a lot of the animation downtime.

Changed my life playing it with that button, so much smoother now. Problem is, the newer ones are even worse about it, the intros and animation got even slower. So yeah, huge problem.

In Ruby and Sapphire you're missing a lot of Johto and Kanto pokemon, they had to make spinoffs on the Gamecube so you could acquire them. On top of that, there's version exclusives and stuff.

The reason why Pokémon had 2 versions was to encourage trading for version exclusives. No Pokémon game has every Pokémon in it. 3rd versions had a few Pokémon missing from both versions. Because you can’t trade with anyone anymore for older Pokémon games I’d just recommend generating version exclusives.

I got a gameboy color in fucking 2006 with Mario Deluxe, but managed to change the mario cart for Pokemon Gold (I was already tired of Mario) which was a fucking miracle someone in my poorfag thirdworlder neighbourhood owned the pokemon card, and he hated that game so his normalfag ass was happy but I was fucking ecstatic. It's as if the videogame gods blessed me for that instant. Put like 250 hours in this fucking game but my favorite Pokemon game is probably Black 2, I have never touched the 6th or 7th gen.

I've honestly found myself liking HGSS/GSC less and less as time goes on even though they used to be my favorites, because I've noticed more and more flaws.

As for fire that's just the nature of it being a shitty type, the only great one in gen 2 is Houndoom so either trade yourself one or make due with something that can use fire attacks. What about an Alakazam or Electabuzz with the elemental punches?

There's an episode where a Poliwrath fucking destroys him, nearly putting out his tail and freezing him with Ice Beam. Ash spends the whole night nursing him back to health and Charizard remembered how much Ash took care of him since he was a Charmander. Then Team Rocket fucks up Ash and Pikachu and he gets pissed, learning Dragon Rage. After that he returns occasionally to fight and listens. He also got a girlfriend.
