How do they consistently put out superb games? You know when you buy a FROM game you are getting your money's worth. They are just leagues ahead of other developers when it comes to creating fresh stories and unbelievably polished games. Let's take a moment to applaud their amazing work and hope they continue to deliver.
FROM Appreciation
attention to detail. level design in particular is where they consistently apply the most attention to detail and value quality, varied encounters over quantity. they are great at world building too. their npc interactions are always great and tell good stories.
I was legit going to make a thread asking this very question. How are they consistently this good? Even if I have my issues with Sekiro, I still love the game for what it actually is.
>most of their library is mediocre or shit
>their only good games are clones of DeS
>consistently good
Zoomers need to leave
I think this is the result of a very strict hierarchy in the development phase with everyone working in unison to achieve a vision. Compare this to massive AAA projects where huge aspects of the game are outsourced and juggled between multiple studios. How are you going to build convincing connected level design and world building like that? For this to be possible, it needs to be carefully directed by the top guys to the entire team.
>Sekiro
>Fresh story
I hate zoomers.
From have put out heaps of shit, OP. Even a lot of their "cult classics" like Kuon don't actually hold up in the gameplay stakes.
sekiro is pretty shit but they were doing amazing until then
They were pretty much shovelware-tier before based Miyazaki joined and set their shit straight. This is why they've been so good for so long now.
Did you even play kings field or armored core or chrome hounds?
Their portfolio is like 80% trash.
we're talking about modern Fromsoft. Since DS1 their games have all been great.
I’ll tell you how.
>Demon’s Souls
>Dark Souls 1
>Dark Souls 2
>Dark Souls 3
>Bloodborne
>Sekiro
All of the above titles are the exact same game. They just put in small changes to distinguish them for NPCs. But if you are not a retard, you’d realize they all play exactly the same, have the same gameplay, lazy storytelling, etc.
The only reason From games are popular is that Dark Souls was memed into being the hardest game ever, and they’ve been coasting off that ever since. Much like Flappy Bird, the meme precedes the reality of the games, and when you actually look deeper you’ll realize that there is no real substance and it is just a silly fad.
But isn't Chromehounds considered a cult classic?
Thank you Miyazaki
If you play Sekiro like Souls, you won't even finish the Chained Ogre. I actually can't think of a game that has the offense-defense-parry balance of Sekiro. It's pretty unique for the game.
what?
The only decent game they put out is Sekiro - everything else is shit
DS1: LOL 15 FPS IN BLIGHTTOWN MOTHERFUCKA
DS2: Hi it took the full priced "update" to fix a game breaking bug. But that's okay, just buy the new edition!
Bloodborne: what is 30fps consistently? Will 20-25 do? Buy our game!
DS3: hi welcome to FPS drops outside and
remember the shit with annoying doggos? Or how tedious poison swamps are? Well we combined this to give you the best experience ever: swamp that slows and poisons you, jumping ghrus, ghrus that shoot out homing skulls when you attack AND get this, basilisks that jump around.
Sekiro: Activision interfered so we couldn't make it a regular From game, so it's literally the best one we ever made
that soul of cinder looks like a literal faggot
>t. got shit on by nineball
>Doesn't have the ultra rare limited edition Dark Souls mouse and mousepad
Pathetic.
>How do they consistently put out superb games?
DaS2 exists.
Nope it's literally just taken from Way of the Samurai which came out in 2002
But chained ogre is 100% a souls enemy where dodging is way more effective than parrying.
people remember it for the multiplayer which would still be considered ambitious by today's standards. Gameplay wise it's mediocre.
dark souls was rushed garbage with placeholder second half though. demons souls was their one hit wonder and bb their swan song.
>huge aspects of the game are outsourced and juggled between multiple studios
this doesn't happen at the level you're implying to. but you do have a point in there somewhere
youtube.com
Bring back Armored Core you FUCKS
even their worst game (DA2) was still heads and tails above its contemporaries.
>DS2: Hi it took the full priced "update" to fix a game breaking bug. But that's okay, just buy the new edition!
It wasn't full priced for DS2 owners, it was $20, don't lie like a faggot.
And I wouldn't call weapons breaking faster when you hit dead bodies as a "game breaking". The durability bug only affected ragdolls and allied phantoms, btw.
Can't remember Way of the Samurai playing like this.
Exactly, it's amazing.
activision only helped with accessibility/onboarding. i suspect they are the reason that the description for pellets still pops up every time you pick them up even at end game. lots of the onboarding stuff was fantastic though. sekiro also has godly menus.
The thing I like about FROM is it they exceed at both seeing the big picture while putting an extraordinary amount of thought into the small things. It's why all the copycats have failed, they just don't have "it", that full overarching vision to see an idea through to it's ideal execution
I was fighting Juzou the Drunk the other day. He seems like a mundane boss, but the way he moves, looks, and sounds just conveys an incredible amount of character and finesse. Lords of the Fallen and Nioh have nothing on that no matter how hard they may try.
I've always thought the DS series to be much greater than the sum of the parts, which is why reducing the experience to things like "hard bosses" or "it has lots of shortcuts" to be incredibly shortsighted on why these games work so well. The only developer that even comes close to their artistry imo is Nintendo EAD.
Damn...
Actually it was - it was in the console versions too.
They said they won't ever fix the older versions because it's "all patched"
I'm done talking to you since you're making things up.
The basic idea is the same - it's just making the AI attack more and doing more special moves. The Ninja weapons had pretty funky flips and shit - even the magic wand from the first one had telekentic throws
Proof? Really, because there was some Japanese quote a while back saying Activision was heavily influencing it
you're not supposed to make it obvious, dumbass
this is probably the first fromsoft game i've played where i actually hate the menus. It's pretty clunky, especially coming straight off Bloodborne.
The 20th anniversary Armored Core soundtrack that came out recently had a bunch of remixed songs as well as some entirely new songs. People are thinking the new songs might be in whatever new AC game they are working on.
t. hasn’t played Sekiro
>Proof? Really, because there was some Japanese quote a while back saying Activision was heavily influencing it
maybe they did more than i hinted at. lots of the game locks stuff from you until later in the story. you don't get ninjutsus until decently far into the game. it was probably activisions idea to have a warning symbol for unblockables too. miyazaki probably wanted people to do more animation reading.
They consistently put out trash. Literally the CoD of RPGs. You guys only give them a pass because you think its okay when japan does it.
You could have just wrote, "The games are too hard!!".
Faggot.
PCfags ruined all souls discussion when Dark Souls came out as multiplat.
>because there was some Japanese quote a while back saying Activision was heavily influencing it
There is no quote like that at all. Miyazaki said Activision gave them the most freedom which is why they chose them as publishers. They only helped with the tutorials.
Why do people go gaga over this, anyway? Is it just because it sold like shit and subsequently became really rare (you're looking at about $200 for a copy in good shape)? There's nothing in there that Fatal Frame and Forbidden Siren didn't do better.
All those Souls copycats that just rip off the difficulty and some shallow similarities come of shit for this reason. You can't just take the difficulty and think you'll get a game like Souls. Difficulty is means to an end in these games. Not an end in itself.
>This is why they've been so good for so long now.
They've finished about two in the last decade, despite releasing over 15 games.
Fuck you talking about?
They've finished about 2 out of their last 15 games.
um wut? ds1 had only one unfinished area, ds3 and bloodborne were both finished, and sekiro is beyond finished.
hang in there bros if ace combat can come back armored core can come back too
youtube.com
best song on the album btw, funny how they remixed it several times and it sounds better each time
Nice groupthink you fucking faggot? You read on reddit that the games are hard and you play them just to prove your gamer cred or something? The games aren't hard, but they are shit. They're pumped out yearly with no attention to detail, reused assets and ideas, half finished lore because people will call it "deep" anyway, and the same absolute shit tier online that the series has had since day 1. You redditors eating up From's watery diarrhea are worse than the kiddies buying every new CoD release back in the day.
Thank God I am not you
>no attention to detail, reused assets
next time you copy paste this, delete these two things. they make it too obvious you are baiting. accusing fromsoft games of having half baked ideas and half finished lore will get soulsfags going nice and good though.
it's pretty hard to fuck up on perfection
>ds1 had only one unfinished area
Then it's not fucking finished is it?
>ds3
It's so unfinished that none of the lore even makes any sense.
> bloodborne and sekiro
Congrats, you found two finished games, both of which are about 25 hours long, and one of which was only completely due to another entire studio picking up From's slack.
>It's so unfinished that none of the lore even makes any sense.
im immune to this bait.
>Then it's not fucking finished is it?
still a fantastic game
>im immune
You replied retard, so no.
if i didn't acknowledge it as bait then it would look like i failed to address one of your points and thus you might try to act like you had won. at least now it is clear that I won and you admit to just being a baiting faggot.
All of their games have awful hitboxes.
>both of which are about 25 hours long
Is this zoomer implying 25 hours is too short?
>Hard difficulty = good
Their games are bare bones, they design a few areas and enemies in them and that's it. Compare it to other RPGs that have tons of different gameplay mechanics and an actual story with thousands of lines of dialogue, from soft games don't have anything to offer other than its combat. If this wasn't a difficult game to go through it would be a pretty awful game. Sekiro is a step forward but I guess they will still keep designing the same type of games that barely have any variety and content
We can smell your neckbeard ass all the way from here
This game really isn't that bad. If Blockbuster was still around it would be the perfect rental type game you rent and beat in a day or just buy it at a bargain bin. Doesn't mean its awful though.
See
I just don't understand why they put the Guardian Ape in Sekiro. He has completely drained all the fun I had in this game. He's such a poor design. Literally straight out of DaS2.
Your non arguments and bait whining means you can't refute the point and have proved me correct.
>I won and you admit to just being a baiting faggot.
Cope.
No.
t. faggot whos assmad that he got btfo online
quality over quantity user. those few enemies and areas are very carefully and purposefully designed to show the lore and to provide varied and unique encounters. sekiro has shown that they are able to make more meaningful mechanics so that gameplay isn't roll spam and r1 in openings.
It's amazing that people pretend it's any good.
this
that fight was easy after I stopped trying to parry shit
could have just said 'git gud' and save yourself the trouble of typing so much and let everyone know you're a moron at the same time
(you) first
Sekiro is sort of a letdown after DaS3/BB. I don't get the same sense of "there could be anything around this corner" feel like I did with previous games.
Unbased and bluepilled
Based fromfag
Regards from another fromfag
I do hope you're talking about From's Dark Souls 2 because Dragon Age II was a 2/10 waste of perfectly good chest hair.
I just want Lost Kingdoms 3 ;_;
>How do they consistently put out superb games?
They have one engine and make one game over and over again with different coat.
They already have most of mechanics, animations, sounds and particle effects. Developers simply can focus on bosses and enemies.
Also absence of real cutscenes helped them too.
uh wut, Sekiro plays very differently from each of those.
FromSoft games are the very embodiment of jank.
And I say this as a fan of Armored Core and a faggot who bought PS3 just to play Demon's Souls without even knowing what I was getting myself into. Their games have this weird charm you don't find in those AAA titles made by big name studios, but several of their design choices are questionable or outright retarded. Very niche, and for a very specific crowd, although to such crowd their products would feel superb.
>Sekiro plays very differently from each of those
Combat was changed a bit, everything else is the same.
I'm gonna need to see some Emma sfm/blender first.
Sekiro is incredibly bad you mongrel
this is the most brainless comment I've ever read.
Combat is EVERYTHING to these games retard.
>everything else is the same
wheres my classes? stats? armor?
jesus christ the state of Yea Forums in 2019.
I'm getting WAY too old for you soulsdrones. Sekiro is superior in every way.
t. stuck on butterfly
King's Field 2 is the best game they ever created and no one appreciates the KF games
>wheres my classes? stats? armor?
commented in the source code.
>3 hours
>0 replies
nobody is ruining it for you but yourself kid.
there's hundreds of non-coder brainlets on this board but you just had to make the retarded reply to the one person who knows how to write software.
I'll give you a hint: it wasn't commented out, and vitality is still in the game.
Some stats were commented, some left untouched.
Why you even arguing if you now that sekiro is just another soul game?
>git gud
The fromdrone flaunts its vast intellect!
>fromdrone
but dark souls and demon souls and bloodborne are all easy as fuck zoomer trash?
this is the first good game they've made kid.
Yeah because you could jump to high points and see what's around the corner, you doofus.
Sekiro is far easier than both Dark Souls and Bloodborne once you actually figure out how to play. You can abuse bosses and get their posture bar down in less than 30 seconds, whereas you always had to wait for an opening in Soulsborne.
Was this thread really necessary? Are gamers and the press being too hard on them? I thought the reception to Sekiro by the filthy unwashed masses was overwhelmingly positive.
t. fromdrone
Except for the miserably unbalanced Demon's Souls and the lackluster snoozefest that was Dark Souls 2.
I am literally criticizing Sekiro you dumb ass, how does that make me a Fromdrone?
Shadow tower abyss is really underrated. Go play it.
>their only good games are clones of DeS
They absolutely nail one thing so incredibly well and spice it up a little with each entry. How's that not a good thing?
git gud
Is this Forms Softwares best story telling to date? They really tried hard with this one, I'd like to see the standard they set stay.
It's not good, but they tried yes.
user why would you pick one of the three (mini)bosses in the entire game that are exactly LIKE dark souls bosses to make this comparison?
>Hard difficulty = good
Yeah, kinda? I feel pretty fucking good when I overcome something difficult.
Thing is these games aren't frustratingly difficult like how difficulty settings in other games tend to work where enemies deal a billion damage to you and you have to hack at them for an hour to get one of them down.
These games are more about quick reactions and pattern memorization, really.
