Why is Fatal Frame destined to be so mistreated in the West?
4 was never released outside of Japan (topped off by Reggie outright lying publicly about its publishing rights) and then 5 was digital-only in the US on top of that costume controversy.

Ghosts are out. Zombies are in.
Name one ghost game sold over 1 million copies outside of Pac-Man..
There's such a thing as a franchise running its course.
Fatal Frame was done with II.
4 couldn't be released as-is, they would have had to have spent even more money to fix the game's issues on top of localization costs. It never would have made a profit.
CoD Ghosts
heh
Ghostbusters is cursed now.
>Ghostbusters is cursed now.
if you mean got woke...
Couldn't tell you if the movie is woke. Main character-wise the casting agent messed up by making everyone unattractive physically and behavior-wise. Now Japan could easily salvage this. Their movie industry should start taking Hollywood franchises and remaking them instead of the opposite. Japanese Ghostbusters.

I have a suspicion this new upcoming one will be equally bad for different reasons
All went to shit when Nintendo got their hands on the series. Let's not forget the Wii remake of FF2 also being censors even though it didn't a NA release.
The American one that Steven Spielberg was co-writing and producing in the mid '00s is obviously long dead, but to anyone who's seen it, how is the Japanese Fatal Frame movie?
Didn't even know there was one.
As far as I can tell, it was shown at a handful of film festivals in the US and England but has never received a home release outside of Japan.
>Why is Fatal Frame destined to be so mistreated in the West?
I sometimes wonder this as well, since the first III games did very well in the west for the time. That being said, companies expectations were well kept in check for the time. I am not sure a game like this could survival in today's, sell a billion games or shut it down landscape.
I also blame Nintendo for owning the IP and letting it rot. It would do far better on the PS4. Hell, the 4th game wasn't even given to the west over a dumb bug they couldn't be bothered to fix. Just think about that..
Plus Japanese ghost girls were in-vogue during the early '00s thanks to the success of The Ring and The Grudge. Are those kinds of movies even released overseas anymore?
I wouldn't be too sure if current Sony would handle it any better than Nintendo
I think he meant more that Tecmo didn't sell partial ownership of the IP when they were financially hurting and that modern KT owned it wholesale as opposed to their joint deal with Ninty. Sony wouldn't have been interested in it, they already have Forbidden Siren.
I am not sure
I think they would. Most people played Fatal Frame originally on the PS2. Nintendo didn't release a game over a bug. It's pretty dumb. Low sales were on all of the Nintendo FF games too
>a bug
fatal frame 4 had more than one bug and even if every bug was solved it's still an unbelievably garbage game compared to the first three
I went out of my way to play it with the english patch and I regret every minute
It doesn't change the fact Nintendo had no way for a " quick patch " like the PS4 / Xbox360 did. They said fuck it, and called it a day even though they had plans to release it in the west.
