I want to be a Twitch celebrity and make a living playing videogames and be loved and have people make memes of me, my reactions and current events and the like... having stated the introduction to this post, here's the question, I saw this book on the store today about how to be a Videogame Streamer, the back of it was full of 'you can do it if you believe in yourself' kind of self-help or get-rich-quick bullcrap book... I'm almost 30 and I have a dead end job, should I buy the book?

Go to bed zoomer

Geezes christ. Don't buy that shit. Let me see if there's a torrent of it for you, user.

What's the name of that book, user?

If you’ve got to ask if you should buy a book to learn to be a streamer you should probably just kill your self live on stream because that’s the only way anyone will notice you.

>I'm almost 30
So what is your target audience going to be exactly?

Don't worry you won't make it either way, being big in streaming is a mix of luck and marketing. Either you're really good at marketing yourself and get incredibly lucky or you're getting less views than a titty streamer.

Lmfao no don't buy shit

It's a mix of dedication, luck and being smart

You need to have a value in the market in this case for the audience, either be really good, really autistic, nice production, etc, bring something either new or just better than what's normal

Then just keep doing it and don't ever stop because if you stop you're going to lose all that you've worked for, hence why it's so hard

its like all these user say
becoming a popular streamer is like playing the lottery.
You either make it, or you dont

I want the same shit, but only so I can have people to play games with, and get to play games earlier than the normies.

You need luck, networking, consistent schedule, skill and/or an entertaining personality to get anywhere. You could be doing a lot of things right and never get watched.

delusional

why would you "want" to be one?

Test the water first by making YouTube vid user. If you've 50k within a year then commit.

You can't make it as a streamer anymore. The market is full, there's no room for anyone new.

that's not true, you've just gotta find a niche

Don't be an oversensitive salty pussy or you'll end up like DSP or LTG. Look to Aris on streaming, he's around your age and has an entertaining successful stream.

Do it faggot

not OP but I'm an older streamer. 10 years ago I dont know if there was a market but I think as people are getting older the audience is getting bigger. People like Jerma and Vinny are killing it even in their 30s. Loads of other people too but I don't really watch them.

you need to either be youtube famous or a pro gamer first

I'm currently streaming casually on a weekly basis, and I've sort of given up the idea of making it big. I can't settle on a singular game, I have no clue how people can make it as a variety streamer these days unless they play only one game for a long time before going on to other games. Depending on the game I might get 0 viewers per stream, I might get 30, I don't usually get more than that. About 100 followers, been doing this about a year now.

Doesn't feel great but it is nice to have a ritual I suppose.

correction, I can settle on games but when I do they're extremely oversaturated and I never had any hope of making it big anyways since I'm not actively winning tournaments and I'm not sponsored. Used to play tons of Smash Bros, I had a small amount of viewers back in the Wii U days but I've seen literally zero since the Switch title arrived.

Im branching into more niche stuff now but it's hard to stream these games when you're just wishing you could play the game you actually have fun with

Is streaming the new "I'm going to move to California and make it in Hollywood"?

i followed a youtuber/streamer that makes over $1k a month streaming a shitty niche bleach phone game and making content for it, it all depends on if you can find the niche audience that needs content desperately enough to watch a talentless/boring hack

Book is probably useless, especially if you suck at games or have dogshit personality or sense of wit. Don't go into it with the expectation of success, making a career out of it, or even getting any viewers. If you're gonna stream just treat it like a hobby, user. Don't set yourself up for the disappointment when it doesn't go anywhere.

Do yourself a favor real quick and go to twitch and browse to the bottom of any of the popular categories. You'll see hundreds and hundreds of people just like you hoping to be successful and make a living playing videogames - all of them with 1-2 viewers just taking up bandwidth, chasing the dragon. Trying to be the next Ninja or Shroud or whoever.

I remember seeing a video a while back of this dude who became so obsessed with becoming a successful streamer over the course of like 4 years that he lost all his friends, became estranged from his family, lost his GF and was getting evicted from his apartment. Doesn't really seem like it's worth the risk, honestly.

wholesome post
good luck on your journey to garnering a little fanbase of your own op
