It's kinda funny, I used to be confused at the thought that people preferred the way earlier versions of the game just for the lack of a hunger bar, or a different style of world generation, but ironically with smaller shit like Bedrock Version being the main subtitle-less version instead of "Java Edition", and the complete texture overhaul happening which is completely fucking over their existing merch relying on the old look by the way lmao, I absolutely see where they're coming from.
That said, I don't really have any preference for a specific version, and I'll still follow updates and play with new features and shit.

Why does everyone expect mods to save a game?
Minecraft stood on itself long enough without mods, with modpacks adding to its life later. But it still was worth playing by itself somehow.

Minecraft has sold over 50 MILLION copies since microsoft bought it.
for reference GTA V is the 3rd best selling game of all time.
It has sold 100 million copies.
Wii sports sold 82 million copies (bundled with the wii)
pubG's lifetime sales are 50 million
Minecraft in it's "dark era" (as some people are calling these times) has sold half as much as one of the best selling games of all time.
It's going surpass tetris likely within 2-3 years. There will never be another gaming event/gaming icon like minecraft in our lifetimes. Especially as games become more service modeled like fortnite where their true popularity is not measurable.

Now I work a shitey office job the other day I walk into my boss's office. He's playing fucking minecraft.
Now one of my friends did tell me for a while teens were playing fortnite on their phones but that has mostly died down. The kids still play minecraft though.
