Karin was more well received then most of the newcomers. Sakura is a staple and Karin being her equivalent to Ken makes her always relevant.
I feel like her and R. Mika will definitely return in future games, maybe just not on the base roster.

People like R. Mika. She was sort of a meme character before SFV with only some waifufags that never touched Alpha 3 begging for her but now that she's back in a game where she isn't unusable garbage she has a real fan base now.
For 09fags she was basically a newcomer, a lot of people enjoyed her personality and playstyle. I feel like she's too popular for Capcom to ever let fade into obscurity like she did for some time. It's pretty interesting considering she was a donut steel from a manga that Capcom themselves made canon.

She's always been popular, yet she missed a ton of games up till SFV (she should've been a shoe in for SFxT), I know about the apparent rights issues, and even the wild rumor that Seth Killian hated her, but still. Nothing stopping them from dropping her again.
People are "nostalgic" for them though, and I can guarantee Capcom is going for that crowd with SF6.

No one gives two fucks about DJ and T. Hawk, even nostalgiafags for ST don't really care about them. If they didn't have the luxury of being associated with SFII they would have been one and done characters. The New Fighters is only remembered because Cammy was so stupidly popular that the other three being unpopular didn't matter. Fei Long has sort of gained a fan base over the years but he's still not that popular.
