I think 2 is fucking ugly and jank but at least they had novel ideas that mage the hand somewhat interesting. It's clear with DS3 that they cherrypicked elements of previous soulsbournes and it ended up being a very sterile game. It plays very well but it's was very interesting to me after I milked it's predecessors.

I genuinely had a better time with Dark Souls 2 than I did 3, AND it has the best reply value of the whole series. Don't get me wrong I had hella buyer's remorse after getting it, but in retrospect I prefer what it did with the formula to dark souls 3 weak adherence to the first game

Anyone who knows of Demon's Souls would have to be pants-on-head retarded not to know what those anons were alluding to, whether or not you pull in the semantics of DaS being a spiritual successor. There's no getting out of this one.

It's overall a more fresh experience than dark souls 2. More flawed, yes, but I have a better time with things that challenge a sequel formula to just giving us more of the same.

Just by existing in the same universe and recycling stuff from DaS it is ruining it.

I think they should have done what FF did, where every game has similar elements (Cid, Chocobos, Moogles, spells etc) but every game takes place in a completely different universe. This is essential what DaS is to DeS, an FF style sequel, they shold have kept going like that.

I played DS2 up to the giants' memories, I couldn't take more shit and stopped and have never felt absolutely anything to make me go back, and it's incomprehensible to me how someone can find anything good in that game, especially when DeS and DaS exist to make such a stark contrast in terms of quality.

Can we all agree that DS III was just a rehash of 1? and I know that it's supposed to be a direct sequel to the first one (because DS II never happened) but the game feels like >"REMEMBER THIS PLACE FROM DARK SOULS 1??"

It's a generic fantasy game where every build is viable and you can make your own character.
Also it's lengthy enough to feel like you're on a big journey.
You have to lean in to the jankiness to like it because it's fucking jank but it's cool in its own way.

Before you say your old garbage game is good remember the last time you played it. I could play ds3 over and over again while ds1/2 are a slog to go through. Most people here are definitely blinded by nostalgia and probably barely play the souls game they deem "the best".
