Now that the dust has settled, can we all agree the touch pad / light was a meme?
Now that the dust has settled, can we all agree the touch pad / light was a meme?
no, i like it
the touchpad is fine, the light is a meme
>drains battery
>distracts in tv reflection
Whos idea was it?
Sony gave too much priority to a glorified Select button.
As far as I am concerned, it was only used in Killzone: Shadow Fall, Infamous Second Son, and jack shit afterwards.
The gimmick where the light had glare on the screen was even more underutilized.
Y'all don't have VR and it shows
Touchpad is nice on PC. Light is useless, but at least it can be turned off.
fuck the stupid light bar. cuts the battery life to like quarter of the dualshock 3 for no reason
Every "feature" on the DualShock 4 was a meme. Touch pad, a light on the only part you can't see, gyro controls, a weird small little speaker. Only thing I like about it was the 3.5mm jack.
touchpad is only useful when connected to a pc to use is as a trackpad if you don't want to switch to a mouse to click on a menu/prompt in a game. Light is completely retarded, though, and should have the option to turn it off for PS4 games.
Pad's cool
light was just built to drain battery
I like it but I'm a pc player and can configure and turn it off if I want
how close do you sit to your TV?
This
The light actually doesn't drain THAT much battery.
It is too fucking bright though. Thank God for ds4windows so I can just turn that shit off.
Just because you played no games with it doesnt mean it wasn't used.
In HZD I set the HUD to dynamic, all you had to do was touch the pad and it would show up briefly. Every game should have that. As a select button its way better than regular select buttons. Also extra buttons for emulation
I took apart my DS4 and cut the wires connecting to the LEDs. Battery life hasn't improved noticeably but at least at night I can focus on the game and not reflections off the TV screen.
The dust didn't need to settle. We've known this from the start.
can it be turned off? i only ever saw an option to turn it to "low" which is still way too fucking bright and barely increases the battery life.
I've never liked the touchpad or the light. Whose idea was is to ruin the perfectly fine design of the previous DualShocks?
i love the light, and the touchpad would be dead space if it was omitted, so I don't see any reason not to have it. to keep costs lower though it would probably be better to just leave it as a panel button, as I never use the touch function
on PC you can turn it off.
This right here. Also the touchpad is great for using the PS4's virtual keyboard, way better than manually selecting everything with the D pad. And the light is fine, literally just go into options and set it to dim.
DS4windows lets you disable it completely along with the touchpad.
>the touchpad is great for using the PS4's virtual keyboard
t. baby fingers
yes, absolutely worthless. was only utilsed by like 4 games during the entire fucking lifespan of the pisstation 4.
because of that piece of shit lightbar and turdpad the ds4 controller had to be dumbed down and gutted of its original features
oh, i'm a consolefag unfortunately. that explains it.
>Y'all
Figures that it’d be a twitter tranny shilling for VR.
what did the touchpad do in games on ps4? i use a ds4 on PC, and literally the only thing i found a use for it for(which actually worked really fucking well) was in world at war zombies, where you could hold square to repair a barrier, while using your left thumb on the pad set as a mouse input to continue aiming and shooting at zombies
>using dualshock on pc
disgusting
would be fine if games showed the playstion promts and not xbox
Most games just use it as a start/select button. A few games use it to let you scroll and rotate maps in pause menus, which I think is pretty comfy.
>heh bro i like to play my games 15 feet away from my tv at an angle where im not even directly facing it
>thats how you should really play games bro
kys
most have a mod for that, but you have a severe learning disability if you cant manage to press square when you see the xbox x button prompt
the xbone controller is so much better holy shit
>retard can't interpret xbox controls onto a PS4 pad
Hows that sub-80 IQ feel, Jamal?
I sit like 8 feet away and there's no reflection. Did you just cover your screen in varnish?
i know what they are you retarded niggers
it's just annoying with ocd and the sony prompts look better
no shit, it's a flop that not even 3% of PS4 owners fell for
The light's cool. It flashes red and blue when getting chased by police.
>using controller in vr
360 controller is better than xbone
but this is better than both
the light was good
touchpad fuckin sucked though
>i have a mental disorder
>therefore thing is bad
360 has the most abhorrent d-pad of any non-third party controller, that alone makes it one of the worst
you never used an original xbox controller, have you?
the d-pad is better
sticks are weird on the xbone
the easysmg is just a 360 controller but better in everyway
no one cares about dpads
your screen must be dirty as fuck, or you play with all the lights on so you wouldnt notice anyway, or you have one of those tvs with no screen glare
t. 360 halo/CoDkiddie
you must be shit at fighting games
wtf theres gay casting couch now?
Touchpad is useless for vidya, but it's neat for PC controls. If you can't be bothered to walk to PC and operate it like a normal human being, you can use touchpad to solve minor interface-related problems like game crash/launch or whatever. If i'd want to improve ds4 to match my tastes, i'd probably bring back touch-sensitive buttons instead of removing the touchpad.
That being said, my touchpad is disconnected from the gamepad and i don't miss it much. It just broke down at some point, and i can't promise that but i think battery life was improved after touchpad was disconnected.
Yeah, the move controllers are ass. Games like Statik, Thumper, and Polybius prove you don't have to flail around to be good vr games
that's a funny image user, have my reddit karma
Yes? How the fuck do you play video games in VR without a controller user? Do you have some mind powers that somehow control what you do in games?
That's what you get for being a psfag, fag
am i a genius?
No, you aren't.
:(
What do I get? All I said was there are decent games that don't need move controllers.
Touchpad is just a big select button.
Light bar was pointless battery slog. Not to mention internal speaker, what the hell were they thinking? Also USB port which shits itself after a while.
It's like they were trying to make PS3 of pads. Good, but overdesigned internally.
using regular controllers instead of motion controller is a significant downgrade
a shame you don't get to experience good ones since moves are so fucked
Was the fact the PSVR uses the light on the controller just a happy accident or were they always planning for it?
I've tried both and I prefer the DS4. Couldn't care less about the position of the sticks but I prefer the shoulder buttons and triggers on the DS4.
Also the Xbone with batteries is significantly heavier + it's bulkier.
Nah it worked perfectly in astrobot.
I don't mind it being there, what I dislike is the fact that you can't turn it off unless you open up the gamepad and cut the contact.
Until your in the dark, can't find the remote and use the controller light to find the volume button on your t.v. :^)
That was always the plan and that's why you can't turn it off.
I think we can all agree that red being just a default player color is fucking retarded
>touchpad would have been an excellent source of hotmappable shortcuts
>next to no developer uses it for more than a giant Select button
Cmon, you got five reliable points of mapping as it is (four corners + center).
looks familiar
Nobody sits 2 feet from their screen, brainlet
Light is used for vr and some game use it for shit (color changing to show your health, what power you’re using in dcuo, etc) but that shit requires looking at your controller. Touch pad is eh. A bigger meme would be the speaker
>xe fell for the VR meme
I eventually put tape on mine so it wouldn't light up the entire room every time I play.
The touchpad is breddy gud on PC (via ds4windows) as you can bind it to all kinds of things.
>and the sony prompts look better
Nah
the light is neat. the touchpad was a meme.
>what is the Playstation Move?
xbox promts are ugly to
yes they do
sony is way more aesthetic than microsoft
no one uses the touchpad because "MUH EXCLUSIVES ARE BAD" so you get all this hardware with shittons of potential and no one ever uses it.
the light exists because the PSVR has been indev since the ps4 was. You can dim it enough that unless you're sitting 5 inches away from your tv that it's a total non issue. If it really bothers your autistic self that much, slap some tape on it.
you can disable the light in the console settings you fucking retards
