I don't care at all for the Miis but I do feel that costumes for them can represent some characters just fine. Geno is a good example. I know it's not what fans of him want but I feel it's far better than an assist trophy or simple jpg.

However they have a bad habit of making the fucking Mii hat/helmets open mouthed to show off the shitty mii face. Nobody who is using these mii costumes for a Mii gives two shits about what the face looks like. Unless said face is capable of being created at least semi-decently through the horrid Mii creator, people want to use these as an insert for X character. K. Well, you have to consider that people may not see an assist as a good thing, in a game where you have Pac-Man and Sonic fighting alongside Mario, Donkey Kong and Pikachu. Assists in general are flawed given Sakurai's past statements. If that's entitlement, so be it. The people he takes into consideration with the roster could care less about assists, and I don't mean the fans of those characters.

Bomberman works better as an assist trophy than a playable fighter. Assist trophies don't need to worry about being totally balanced which allowed them to make the bombs feel appropriately powerful.

That's fair I guess, but what concerns me is how much more similar VOn and CR are than Mario and Sonic, combined with how much less impactful that genre of game is than platformers. Also, Virtual On got a new game in 2018, but it's also a light novel crossover so it's basically doomed to no port, even if it's a legit VOn entry.

Also you have the issue where most Virtual On derivatives are more popular than the game itself outside Japan (CR, Gundam VS, Dissidia, ARMS) because the game was barely marketed at all. Also, the US didn't get any of the arcade versions beyond the first game, and I'm pretty sure Australia didn't get oratan in any capacity until the 2009 XBLA version.
