with what nigger? that's like the 2nd encounter, if you can't get past that then just give up and play fifa or something
>filters
the first filter in the game, good memories
Almost always move just close enough so enemies will move closer to you on their turn but be unable to attack you as youll be still barely out of their range, you can click on them to see their attack range with a specific button that I forget.
Based Dorter casual filter city
only if you turn off your filters
go to the plains and level up once
>no archers
go back and grind
Kill the mage black mage first. Force the enemy to approach you by staying just outside their attack range. Let Algus/ Argath be your hate magnet and send your archer up the tower to snipe enemies that approach you
>using archers in vanilla
Confirmed retard.
OP get chemist to job class level 2 to unlock black mage. 1 black mage makes the fight easy, 2 makes it irrelevant. Magic is broken in chapter 1.
Stop playing now if Dorter is giving you a hard time
Dorter is unironically the hardest fight in the game.
He has an archer
Also experiment with a lot of different classes OP
>Mana Shield makes it so the enemy must reduce my MP to zero before they can get at my HP
>Manafont restores MP with every step
>implying I can die
Bro we all know what the undisputed hardest fight in this game is
only when you aren't ready for it
>Tfw about to start playing again after never having got past the prologue missons
HA HA. Thanks for reminding me about Dorter.
Not for this fight but whatever you do, DO NOT make Ramza a magic user. Will make a later game fight near impossible.
Dorter isn't hard when you're ready for it either.
Thing is most players don't know they're going to get fucked their first time through Riovannes
Not hard. Wiegraf is harder but is so easily cheesed it isn't even funny. By that point you have access to broken ass abilities, if I could beat it as an 8 year old without grinding, anyone should be able to.
Never even heard of this strategy and I heard about all the crazy broken stuff when this came out
you're supposed to be grinding a LOT on the side playing this game, it's just a dumb lazy game
>Wiegraf is harder
No. I beat Wiegraf the first time I fought him and each subsequent one to get to Velius just to get slaughtered many times. If you lose to Wiegraf the problem is just your Ramza is weak. Velius is where the complexity increases and you need to be exploiting broken tactics. Not that you can't exploit broken shit for Wiegraf like Yell but I didn't FAQ these fights when I first played them
Sort of? You don't have Shout/ Scream yet by that point meaning you have to run in circles using Tailwind/ Yell a bunch and hoping RNG doesn't fuck you
No you are just ass at videogames.
>70 faith
>9 speed
You disgust me.
I didn't, it was not really necessary. If you don't grind the early to mid game is just the right difficulty to require good strategy and tactics until you hit where the difficulty goes through the roof and then when you get Orlandu and calcs you can wipe the floor with it and it becomes super easy
Broken skills include: 2 swords, mana shield, short charge, golem, mustadio, argias, hamedo, MATH, etc. I could go on. Without massive grinding you won't have those at dorter.
2 swords is not really enough to matter much for Velius. It helps but it isn't game breaking. I had Shrot charge and Argias. Math you wont have for Velius unless you know exactly what to go for in the skill trees or unless you're grinding for it
>I lost my save data because I reset my phone
FML senpai
I actually came up with it myself although I'm sure someone else has thought of it. Another strategy is to create a gunner who knows Arts of War. Give him Concentration and he can destroy enemy equipment, including weapons, from long range. By the time they actually you, you could have stripped them naked
you clearly ARE supposed to be grinding, since if you don't grind the story outpaces you with enemy jobs that it demos by fucking miles and you need to average 3-5 fights inbetween every story fight just to barely keep up with that
either way it's not a hard game and you thinking that was what was being said exposes you as the shitter lmao
>Playing FFT on your phone
W H Y
Grind to a ninja, get two swords, then change to a monk.
Then steamroll almost everything until you get Exaclibur and Oralndu, and steamroll even more.
Just grind a bit
>if you don't grind the story outpaces you with enemy jobs that it demos by fucking miles
Not him but...That's intended. Plenty of games whip out advanced classes against you before you have access to them
I use my phone but mostly for convenience. Like when I'm on a break at work or when I'm too lazy to fire up my PC
2 sword on a monk for whole party and you can end the fight in 1-2 rounds plus monk skills are amazing in general.
Dorter is where you learn how to read what exactly the enemy can do or you die. At least in your first playthrough where you're just learning everything.
I figured it all out eventually when I was a dumbass kid, so surely you can too.
if you NEVER grind the game will be practically over by the time you have any advanced jobs and you still won't have any JP to use their abilities unless you grind a ton or use the glitch, it's pretty fucking obvious you aren't supposed to go through 5 story fights just to have 2-3 abilities and pausing the fight to cheese JP IS grinding
Blade grasp is the most broken of them in the psx version
>2 sword on a monk for whole party
Now tell me how you learned this. Did you FAQ? Did you grind? Did you just randomly decide "Oh I'm going to make my entire party ninjas and then swap back to monks!" I only had 2 chars that had reached ninja when I fought Velius and hadn't even mastered the class to be able to put 2 sword on something else
take the high ground
too lazy for emulator and I don't want to be called a nerd for playing psp in public transport
These plus also make sure you've equipped your team thoroughly with both items and abilities. Dorter is a wake-up call to first time players that you will have to stay on top of this throughout the game. It's not a typical jrpg where you can rely on the natural level progression to get you through most everything.
>Double sword monk
I bet you niggas don't even Ninja Jump to kill everything on the map before it ever gets to your zip code
Advanced classes like calcs aren't supposed to be reached by the end of the story. Calcs destroy everything and are only for deep dungeon.
Final Fantasy monks generally use 2 hands by default
But as a trade off can't use weapons
I thought hamedo was wotl blade grasp, my bad for forgetting to mention the most OP shit ever.
By not being a retard. Monks scale off pA only so available weapons don't matter, can equip lots of +PA gear, and with 2 attacks would be broken. Sorry you're a brainlet, user.
FF Monks tend to not need weapons to beat the shit out of things.
>HQ filter
You're too far gone.
Can't help you there.
This and the early mission with dragons are the casual filters. Rest of the game is easy.
LIFE IS SHORT
BURY!
>tfw autistic
>never had problems with this level because I was grinding
which ff tactics version should I play? the psp one?
/vr/ is this way, grandpa ===>
all games released before 2010 should be banned on Yea Forums, they are nothing but boomer nostalgia shitposting
Unironically the mobile port from what I've heard.
HEAVEN'S WISH TO DESTROY ALL MINDS...
FFT had a mobile release after 2010, checkmate zoomer.
The war of the Lions version has more content such as extra classes, extra encounters, in more available character slots. The only thing is that the entire script was retranslated which a lot of fans did not like since it uses a lot of elevated English and changes the names of characters and techniques. Personally I'm fine with it other people aren't
Why is the sound absolutely trash in WoTL?
I can't blame then for retranslating it, the original translation is uncanny AF at times. Especially when it comes to magic/ability shouts.
I'm playing the mobile WotL port now since I got it years ago and never played all the way through, do they still do the spell/ability shouts?
Kill ranged first.
Get a Black Mage
Get an Archer
No more spell/ability barks. That pissed me off so bad.
>Another strategy is to create a gunner who knows Arts of War. Give him Concentration and he can destroy enemy equipment, including weapons, from long range. By the time they actually you, you could have stripped them naked
You're a monster user. I like it!
>Dual morning stars
more like Mourning!
AAcha!
>implying I let the enemy have turns
speed + math + holy
gg
Gimme your OP builds, Anons, I wanna hear about late-game fun.
Also are Dark Knights or Mimes worth the effort to get?
What is Chocobo River
DK is brainless op
if you can't come up with your own, just unlock DK
mime can lead to some fun shenanigans but unless you're trap grinding, no
Make everyone a black mage.
Holy fucking shit that filter looks awful. Unironically kill yourself
Archers are fucking trash only useful for unlocking further stuff. Should never be used in combat you dingus
This. This is why I use rolling saves for any game with more than 3 slots.
that's not 11 high level monks
Having Ramza being an actual good OP class is cathartic in itself after years of him being SQUIRE’d. I don’t care what anyone says: Sanguine Sword is the best ability in the game, unless you’re fighting undead.
Most OP build is mastering all of the Calculator/Arithmetician-compatible spells, then mastering the actual job itself, then going into battle and hitting every enemy on the map with a Death spell they can’t dodge or some other equally ridiculous spell.
They also have the highest physical attack and hp growth and wave fist and earth slash, who gives a shit about weapons
Thats not a story battle
Dude, just do some fucking math.
1 calc + 11 high level monks = 11 dead monks.
Never seen an Arithmetician in action. What do they do, shout high school algebra at people and make them fall over dead?
Omae wa mo shindeiru: the job.
Literally, yes. They use math to kill people. Specifically, they use math to alter how spells work, allowing them to potentially hit every enemy on the map with what might normally be a single-target spell.
no, they calculate holy.
>boost speed
>equip chameleon robe
>ct0 the entire field
that's 4995 damage.
The only thing I hate from WOTL is they removed the occasional skill use lines.
Jump Damage sucks without spears. Flails have random damage, usually low, should be using reflexes instead of counter. Move +3 is also viable with a ninja so they can move access the whole map.
They are a terrible class, but their command is the most broken OP thing in the game. When used on Black Mage you can literally wipe the entire field in 1 turn, from anywhere
Interestingly, when people hacked the game they found out the spell shouts/chants did exist and had all been translated. But some lazy programmer at Square forgot to enable them
Same with the slowdown bug, it was literally one line of code they didn't bother changing.
Slap a thief hat or headband on him to make him better.
>Same with the slowdown bug, it was literally one line of code they didn't bother changing.
not entirely true. the "fix" only speeds up the game during skills.
it's pretty obvious once you've played both version a billion times. the animation and sound get choppy as fuck.
Whats some secret discovered in the past 2 years about FFT
>FFT
>Grind
Last time I tried, normal monster became impossible to beat.
iirc you can grind for JP rather than XP, that's what gets you abilities
been like a decade or more since I played though
Then stop grinding, since story quests are never scaled and equipment is gated behind story progression.
no, you can steal it from random encounter humans and get way ahead of the shop
So Male Soldiers cost 1500 to recruit, but Female Soldiers only cost 1400.
What's that about?
bards are better than dancers
Males come with a sword and females come with a dagger which is 100 gil cheaper in the shop
lol
>Males come with a sword and females come with a dagger which is 100 gil cheaper in the shop
That makes an astounding amount of sense and I never noticed it. Thanks.
You're grinding wrong. Kill all monsters but one. Surround it with people who will survive a crit from it. Preferably a chocobo since you can make it cast choco cure when it gets low. Now, once you've done all this, start hitting your own team for JP
Last time I ran through the PSP version I had individual units with both the Sing and Dance moveset combined with a mime. It was a hilarious run that gave me a lot of fun memories. Mime is seriously underrated and brings out the best in a lot of jobs. The Mime would run around, be just as healthy as heavy armor units, hit hard, and copy everything from songs, dances, dark knight skills, and items. Having an extension of your characters like that is so useful once you grow more knowledgeable about the game.
You're retarded. Jump damage scales with WA (weapon attack) and, similar to Throw, is unaffected by the random damage formula attached to flails, axes, and bags. A Scorpion Tail will do more Jump damage than an Oberisk or Holy Lance.
To be more specific, Javelin II > Chaos Blade > Dragon Whisker=Chirijiraden > Ragnarok > Scorpion Tail > Blast Gun > Excalibur=Holy Lance=Glacier Gun > Blaze Gun=FS Bag > Masamune=Oberisk=Save The Queen
The first thing I realised when playing this game is that Squires are fucking garbage and relying on them to win the fight is a bad idea.
They're supposed to be. Squires are newbies that don't know what they're doing and their only purpose is an ability that lets them learn faster. The only exception is Ramza and that's entirely because he gets unique abilities
>free strength stack
>garbage
you're garbage
Yes. You're not meant to main squire. You get a couple skills then move on. Mainly Accumulate, Gain JP UP, and Throw Stone. Optional: Move+1
what game is this
lol. You gotta rush the archers and mages plus get lucky
Final Fantasy Tactics.
Pretty much the best FF.
Oh man, that VA
>I have been called "The God of Thunder." You will now know why. Upon my holy blade does the very world hang in the balance... and now, the scales will tip!
Dark Souls 2
>blocks your path
>try to cheese the fight by buffing your stats
>enemy archers and mages close you down in two moves and melt your hp before you can lay a sword on them
>XIV retconned the ending into something significantly more dark
>It was confirmed to be Tactic's 'real' ending by the writer
Makes me a little sad.
Why is only one of your characters pixelized
What was it?
I can't help you with that filter
This and the mission with the fat guy zombie in the mansion are as far ive ever gotten in this game, i dont understand it, the game is so slow and grating, i really wanted to like it but i just dont know what im doing wrong
This probably the most blatantly horseshit mission square has ever come up with. The game can just decide that you lose and there's nothing you can do about it
Ramza and Co. couldn't stop Ultima, so they sacrificed themselves to seal her away again until a group that could fully destroy her came along, and as such stood guard as spirits in Orbonne to test anyone who came.
The Durai Papers in Tactics aren't the originals, and had the ending rewritten after the XIV WoLs kill Ultima to give Ramza and Co. a happier ending than being stuck in purgatory for thousands of years waiting for new heroes.
It does feature Delita's spirit showing up and apologizing to Ramza before everyone "passes on" though.
what you did wrong was not play it back when it was new
just play ffta on an emulator instead
I see a lot of people in here saying to grind I thought you were not supposed to grind because it makes the enemies stronger.
Nah, not really. It's just a different ending for the XIV version of Ivalice.
I think there's another tweet talking about how he was basically shoehorned into doing something Tactics related despite wanting to do something original.
Aw that's pretty lame
The game is a slow burn and it makes you find your own fun. Which I suppose is part of the problem, the intro is very off putting to new players and it even took me several attempts before it clicked.
Hell the backstory explaining why all of this is happening isn't even directly stated, it's in a journal entry in a separate menu. It's legitimately interesting though. Basically the king lost a war and died. And while the rich families who fought ended up being mostly fine all the poor citizens and knights who got nothing after the war was over were told to get fuck off leading to a country wide uproar. Also now that the king is gone who gets the crown? The queen had a son but the queen was known to hate her husband and was fucking around on the side so no one knows if the prince is actually the king's son. There's also the adopted daughter of the king but... well she's adopted. And also it's debatable if she's even the real one since allegedly the actual Ovelia was killed as a baby and the current one could easily be some random used as a replacement. The main character Ramza is the main character because he's the only noble who looked that this and was disgusted by how his high born peers use people and throw them away.
It makes random encounters stronger. Story encounters remain the same. So you can grind, steal endgame equipment and learn endgame abilities, and then blitz through the story with zero trouble
Stormblood has set up some strange things. Multiversal Omega and a copy Ivalice with a skewed history (Tactics era was hundreds to thousands of years ago, but now the XII era is occurring with Ashe, Fran and even Ba'Gamnan existing there) is just strange.
>>It was confirmed to be Tactic's 'real' ending by the writer
Where was this 'confirmed' exactly? because I'm pretty sure it's just a fan service raid with it's own ending because it takes place in XIV's world, which has it's own storyline for everything, including the XII shit.
KNOW, LIVE, BECOME A FROG! FROG!
I get the feeling the mandatory Red Chocobo encounter was placed specifically to fuck people who grinded too much
Wasn't Omega always some multiversal entity or were those just copies?
Oh that is interesting
KUPO! ROUND AND ROUND YOU GO!
I was mistaken about that and it's not a retcon or quite canon, it's supposed to be a "what if" story for if Ramza and Co. couldn't beat Ultima.
Up until XIV and XV (And even then not much in XV), it was always just a recurring superboss or name. In XIV he straight up has data of Exdeath, Kefka, and even Chaos, as well as one of XIV's own higher-up godly entities.
what the fuck do I learn I just finished the first mission tutorial
Make everyone a Black Mage.
What do you want to be? Just pick whatever seems appealing to you and try it out. That’s half the fun of it.
Did anyone ever use monsters in their playthroughs? I tried a couple of times but they feel way too limited despite being an option
Get "JP Boost" from Squire, it'll be crucial later on
1. Gain JP UP
2. Accumulate
3. Throw Stone
4. Move +1
Do not deviate from this order.
JP-Up then become a knight or BM
Dragons are decent, also if you pick the meme dragon girl. Monsters are usually less versatile though, so I don’t use them much.
accumulate doesnt exist
Oh, Assumed you were emulating the psx na version. In that case you should have gotten focus. But as long as you got JP up first you're fine
why do square keep ruining their great games with shit story sequels?
PSP and PS1 versions have different translated names most of the time
You'll need another battle for it but Accumulate is called Focus there
alright then
Only worker 8 is OK
Is there any way to mod PSP classes into the PS1 version, or to use PS1 translation into PSP version ?
holy shit that filter hurt my eyes.
For Ramza you want Tailwind. Raising speed is extremely powerful and unlike Focus, you can use it on allies.
Because they're incompetent and don't understand what actually made any of these games good. That aside though, the XIV raid is a fan service what if story.
Yes, there is an entire site dedicated to hacking the game and both of those things are some of the hacks.
ffhacktics.com
I never could appreciate this game after I found out how retardly broken you could make somes classes be. When I was a kid I just had fun playing with the classes. The game wasn't even that hard if you grinded enough.
why would you use ps1 translation on the psp version? for nostalgia?
In XIV's case it's just a matter of their raids tending to be callbacks to other FFs.
Crystal Tower straight up has you fight Xande and the Cloud of Darkness on the Crystal Tower, and actually makes it work a bit.
Omega's raid is simulations of Exdeath, Chaos, Kefka, and other assorted FF bosses (Phantom Train and Catastrophe come to mind) made from data it's stored over the years.
The Ivalice raids aren't any different, just ways for them to utilize cool older FF monsters and sometimes characters.
I thought that grinding made the random encounters harder
This isn’t a competitive game, it doesn’t actually have to be very balanced. Retarded powergaming will ruin every single game out there no matter how good
If it did I never noticed it. It was the only way I could keep up with some story battles anyway.
A few things you should know that I wish I did. Characters are naturally geared towards physical or magical jobs based on Brave and Faith. High brave increases the damage of Knight Swords, Katanas, and unarmed as well as increases the likelihood of reaction commands activating. 60 Brave? 60%chance of counter activating when hit. Low brave is primarily useful for treasure hunting which is important in the endgame when your searching for the most powerful equipment. Faith increases damage and effectiveness of magic but also increases susceptibility to magic as well. You generally don't want Faith TOO high because not only do you take more damage from spellcasting but also if maxed they'll leave your party seeking god.
The zodiac system sucks. Basically the zodiac sign of your character dictates how much they like or hate each other. This primarily affects support magic classes. 2 signs that get along will very easily support one another granting bonus HP and easily buffing them. While if your party members hate one another white magic will barely work and you'll miss buffs more often than not.
How'd this dude evade the filter?
Is he a ninja?
Archads don't fuck around
>filters
Alroght Anons, which are your favorite classes and why is Dark Knight cooler than them?
Red Chocobos are monsters.
would have been funny if he was
I'm put off by worker 8's movement and speed.
