Thoughts on this game? Seems like whenever people talk about good Yoshi games, they ONLY talk about Yoshi's Island.

Yoshi's Story was wack. Of all my N64 games i had this was easily the least played. I didn't even beat it because it was so boring.
It's fruity as fuck
at least it had good music. unlike the trash we get today
I liked it once I discovered only going for melons, but once I unlocked the black and white yoshis it was never worth revisiting.

Nostalgic to me, for a different reason
I rented this game like 3 times from Blockbuster and could never get past the elephant with the sign
I liked it. The uncanny valley look is unsettling at times.
Yeah! Dang kids with the Justin Bieber and Little Wayne's! Upvote if you're still playing in 2019! XD

That's because it IS the only good Yoshi game. Yoshi's Story was trashed from day one for being way too easy, and the soundtrack also set new standards for the Yoshi series, that is, replacing catchy tunes with a series of squeaks, farts, and kazoos.
A Yoshi game you can beat in 20 minutes, i still dont know what where they thinking
He meant the trash we get in modern Yoshi soundtracks
Comfy. Cotton candy boss a cute
branching paths, replayability
It's garbage and ruined Yoshi forever.
>The stage just ends after you collect enough shit, meaning you don't get to see all of it
>Don't even get to play a third of the levels before getting to the end
>Pathetically easy; the final boss has infinite health powerups in the corner AND an invincibility powerup WHICH RESPAWNS
>I liked it once I discovered only going for melons
This was the main problem with the game, and the problem with any game where the difficulty is self-served while the main game is easy as fuck. You feel like a retard if you go after the higher difficulty stuff, ESPECIALLY if you don't get rewarded for it. In a difficult game, you feel like you're being challenged directly. In games like this, you feel nothing, and then the game just ends, and you have to force yourself to try and enjoy it.
There was another game that perfectly showcased this, Half-Minute Hero. The main game was stupid easy and you just basically rammed your head against the levels until you won. But each stage had special side missions to complete. Trying to complete them felt like a chore because they required you to put in way, way more effort than the main stage, which sounds good on paper, but the only thing you got out of the ordeal was wasted time and maybe a different level.
tl;dr games' shit, and so are any games where you have to force the difficulty on yourself.
I fucking love this game OP. Give it a chance. Most people circle jerk over Yoshis Island but I really think Yoshi's Story is a hidden gem.
Pretty fucking weird from I remember
This is only okay if the challenges are actually fun, like in Wario Land 4.
Not to mention bowling ball nose.
It's worth a play through but no more than that. Enjoy it for the comfy music and graphics, drop it after the final boss.
Yoshi's island is much better in every way though. Even that game is easy compared to Super Mario World, but it has a shit ton of content and hidden stages.
If you haven't played Yoshi's island yet, play the SNES version.
>hating on Yoshi's Story ost

It's underrated, I think. Probably the weakest "Yoshi" game, but still pretty fun and charming as hell. Plus, the graphics really hold up, given its artstyle.
It's pretty easy to "beat," but it doesn't fucking play around if you try to do an all-melon run. That's legit tough that I still have never beaten.
The Credits/Staff roll is one of the happiest, warmest tracks in video games to me. If I listen to it at the right time, if can make me tear up.
It could have been so much better than what it was. There is definitely some interesting ideas but it's just not that fun to play.
It's shit but nostalgiafags will pretend it's good anywa-
>thread almost completely trashing it
I take it back, this should make it obvious just how bad it is if it barely has anyone defending it nowadays.
tried to play it the other day on retroarch, but it was a buggy piece of shit and the fruit disappeared after the first level
This was my first yoshi game and I was like 7 when I got it. Sadly nostalgia doesn't even save it for me.
I think it's fine. The music and visuals are pretty great, but all the challenge is self-imposed. There's no real reward for getting all melons or picking harder stages over easier ones to get to the end.
unless you're doing a melon(not watermelons) only run it's stupid easy no matter what levels you choose.
It makes me want to eat fruity flavored candy
It was comfy, i just wish they'd do something similar to the Snes for the last boss
Challenging:
Metroid
Donkey Kong
Everyday:
Mario
Luigi
Wario
Kids:
Yoshi
Kirby
Peach
And that's okay
I probably would have defended it out of nostalgia if I hadn’t tried replaying it on the wii back in the day. Was really disappointed how much worse it was than I had remembered at the time.
I loved this game as a kid. I would come home everyday from school and beat it in one evening, unlocking black and white yoshi. I never liked any other yoshi game
I was a bab when this game came out so I have huge nostalgia for it, it isn't a very good game though
I thought melon hunting and just going for high scores in general was fun and engaging. Score attack isn't for everyone though.
I do enjoy that the game allows you to play it in a relaxing way by just beating levels or in a more intense way of high score hunting. Not unlike Pikmin where you can complete the game leisurely or you can go for a low amount of days, which is more intense.
I was told it was a good sequel to Yoshi's Island and bought it one day on a whim to see for myself. Popped it in my N64 and was greeted with literal preschool-tier garbage.
Presumably stuff past the first couple levels is better, but I was so upset that it was clearly not just "Yoshi's Island 2" that I just turned it off and haven't played it since.
I wanted to play this game when I was little.
My dad got me Jet Force Gemini instead.
Thanks father for keeping me straight.
One of my childhood faves. Musta played it through at least a dozen times. The Yoshi's singing the end music still hits me right in the feels.
jet force gemini holds up the worst of any N64 game
way worse than yoshi's story
Used to love it as a kid but I can't stand playing it nowadays. The 30 melon challenges are dreadful, and it's mindnumbingly boring when you play the game casually.
>Father has to keep user straight by not subjecting him to harmless cute kid vidya gaems
lol fag
it was fun and comfy and one of my favorite n64 games. haters gonna hate.
lolwut
The soundtrack, graphics and secrets hold up well. The controls are a little wonky but thats it.
My cunt brother deleting my save file for no reason. Literally no reason, he was old enough to know better, he was just an autistic dipshit
>The controls are a little wonky
The game plays like absolute shit. Aiming is a nightmare.
