I could see some of the things like the horse bell, horse EXP, and music options being patched in, but things like the 2D mode and party following would probably be too much effort to spend on catering to the niche PC players, and in Japan they know everyone is gonna pay for it even if it's their second or third time buying the game.

Dragon Quest IX was the most marketed by Nintendo and what do you know, its the most sold Dragon Quest to this day outside Japan.

Late ports almost always sell worse.
The only one I can think of is late port RE4 PS2 slightly outselling the GC version. And the PS2 was like 4x as popular as GC.

I also have a Switch, PS4, and PC. But it makes no sense to buy the same game twice no matter how much money you make. I'll probably just not buy any more dragon quest games on release anymore since this is going to be the standard, if not just pirating instead instead.
