I've been playing Gran Turismo 2 lately and its a ton of fun. It's my first time playing it and I gotta say it's a blast. I'm currently using a CIvic Si that i've tuned the shit out of it. Very fun car to drive. What car was your favorite? What Gran Turismo game is your favorite? Which one should i play after 2?

Tried it once, not my thing.

i like rage racer on ps1. it's basically one big track but it had good music

3 is probably the aesthetic peak of the series, the soundtrack and basicilly everything was majestic, but that doesn't mean that i'm a shitty boomer. I enjoyed the shit out of Gran Turismo 5 with a wheel and GT Sport but only with a pad for now, gonna get a G29 soon.

My favorite car from the games would have to be the Lister Storm V12, which still hasn't seen the light of day in a modern racing game other than some mods.

From what I've seen of that game it looks fun. More arcade like but i enjoy those kinds of racing games too.

FREE TIBET NANKING BEST DAY OF MY LIFE

Gran Turismo Sport is my favorite now. It's just so elegantly made and the gameplay is so good now.

Attached: gtsport1.jpg (1920x1080, 221K)

it had a simple option to tune your car to either drift, or grip. putting it on grip made it feel more like gran turismo, the drift setting feels more like ridge racer. i think the game is technically part of the ridge racer series but it's a freak

Play Colin McRae 2 if you like kino PSX racing.

Oh fuck yeah. I love the rally races in GT2 so that seems right up my ally. Will definitely check it out, thanks user.

Has anyone here played Grid or it's sequel? They seem pretty cool but I haven't played them. Would you recommend them?

My first car was an AW-11 MR2. Really fun car to drive. Being mid-engine rear wheel drive it can be easy to over-steer and fuck up correcting it but you get used to it. There are a retarded amount of cars in GT2, I honestly can't even fathom driving them all.

Escudo pikes peak car is ez win car,. 900hp and about 900kg car that demolishes everything.

>gt3 on ps2
>escudo drift car
>find a tune setup online
>so much power it kicks the front up and you do a wheelie down the road

Is it purchasable or do you win it in a race?

>Which one should i play after 2

GT5 is amazing if you are looking for a more modern GT game that still features stuff like the used car dealership.

what's the gameplay like?

>Needing an online connection to save your progress
>Has only 1 tenth the cars/tracks of previous GT's

Have all the GT's except this one, will only consider buying GT games again when Polyphony go back to making fully made games and stop taking part in the online only agenda

I played the demo's of 1 and 2 back in the ps1 days and loved them so much.

I didn't get a full retail Gran Turismo until GT3 on the ps2 though, but I finished almost everything in that and had a blast.

Had S on all licenses except a single one in the last category, a time trial on Monaco.
Got so close on numerous occasions but I just couldn't do it.

Also loved running the pikes peak speed exploit for fun to see how fast I could take it.

Good taste user.

Every non-arcade driving game nowadays is a hardcore sim, and that sucks. Gran Turismo hit the perfect spot, not too arcadey, not too technical. At least the first three games, haven't touched the rest.
Are there any more racing game series like this?

I used the twin turbo supra cause twin turbo sounded like its really fast and powerful

Since the first game I always started with the Honda Prelude Si V-Tec '91 in sebring silver (until they removed it in sport) - I still want to own a real one eventually

forza

It has an offline mode now, autismo.
They're also adding cars and tracks every month for free.

>This is a 1994 machine
No PC at the time could possibly compete.

I will bump your shit OP.

First time I seriously got into 2 was a year and a half ago, around last year's NYE. I spent it home alone, alternating between replaying Silent Hill, first time GT2 and first time Soul Reaver. Some of the most fun I've had with vidya in years. My PC was ded and all I had was ps1 and ps2 so no distractions, no alt tabbing and wasting time on porn. It's interesting how much you can enjoy shit when you don't have the burden of too many choices.

Anyhow as someone who thinks GT1 is the best, I enjoyed GT2 a lot. Things I liked:

>faster progress, plenty of events with single races yield new cars immediately, super easy to stack up your garage and you are always getting cool new shit
>more tracks and actual rally compared to 1, slightly better physics

Things I didn't like:

>inferior atmosphere and music to 1, jazzy shit doesn't fit into the game (and yes I know its in japanese gt1 already, don't care).
>no manufacturer music
>shitty slanted HUD font
>framerate goes way lower than in 1, overall less consistent
>races later on have way too many laps for comfort

GT1 and 2 are, despite its age, racing games with some of the most satisfying sense of grip, if not speed necessarily. Whereas 3 and 4 feel like you are on oily rails all the damn time.

Also how cool was it that you could take your cars on a memcard to a friend's place and race each others shitboxes in multiplayer?

Attached: 1532085200735.jpg (400x387, 74K)

Nigger the majority of the car list from GT6 and GT5 was composed of models (and handling) from 2001 to 2004, you're absolutely fucking stupid if you think this isn't a smart choice.

You're getting free updates every month for literally years and you still fucking complain.

Gameplay is very smooth i'd say, most of the cars feel right and they feel good to drive, the main problem right now is the penalty system which is anything but perfect and sometimes the B.alance O.f P.erformance which can be wonky at times.

It's hard to explain in words. It just feels more rewarding mastering corners and such.

>muh quantity
Every car in GTS is made with love. Something you can't say about GT5 or 6. Every part of GTS screams quality.

3 for gameplay, 4 for content
After that it gets kinda meh

GT4 went full simulation mode. Jumping from 2 to 4 was a HUGE adjustment. As for you question, play Forza Motorsport. The first one on the xbox if you can. Honestly that game is just as good as Gran Turismo 3 in my opinion. I absolutely LOVED the first Forza game. I'm honestly thinking about buying an OG xbox just to play it. Seriously it's that good.

In GT3 that one can be tuned up to 1800hp and the aerodynamic simulation physics completely break down.

I really liked GT4, it’s to GT3 as GT2 was to 1 in that they just blew up the same basic framework with tons of content. GT2 is still my favorite overall, very fond memories of that masterpiece.
The PS3 games, eh. GT5 was the end result of dev hell and felt like it. GT6 smoothed it out i hear but never played it.

gt4 totally fucked the handling

Should I start with GT1/2? I played 4 and a little bit of 5, 6 and Sport and I liked them.
Graphics don't bother me.

>Jumping from 2 to 4 was a HUGE adjustment

Not a universally good one. I love GT4 but going 200mph in that game feels like you are barely going 40. Also those god-awful racing missions where you start last and have to wait for a minute and a half before you can start driving, who the fuck came up with that?

GT4 nails the relaxing factor of racing games, everything is so god damn comfy but it doesn't detract from the experience. Visuals are in the top 5 on the system, as well as the performance. Amount of cars is mind blowing, as well as the content itself. But the actual driving model is really... bland. Not generic, but bland. It's not very fun to drive most of the cars in 4. ~400HP weeb tuned up shitboxes are the sweetspot because everything under is so goddamn slow, everything over that is ungodly terrible to handle, muscle cars are generally unplayable, and then you get to those formula-like vehicles which are just ridiculous.

>Gran Turismo Sport is my favorite now
Does it have a career mode? Winning a race wins you a car etc?

GT3> GT4

if you borrow a wheel and try out a simracer you'll understand why.

Attached: 1440367131062.jpg (212x251, 9K)

also a spec points and difficulty in gt 4 is totally fucked. It's impossible to know how hard a race is actually going to be except through trial and error.

This

Do we have anything like GT on PC?
A game with the licenses and the used cars, or something close to that

spent a shit ton of hours between GT3 and GT4.
mazsa 787B
nissan R390
nissan GTR v-spec 2

I think light simulations that basically require peripherals don't have a high enough profit margin on PC to justify the licensing. On a console everyone by default has a controller suitable for playing.

Plymouth Superbird was one of my favourites. After 2 I'd say 3 and 4 would be alright to go for but after that it's probably best to just skip to Sport. A lot of people hate Sport but what I like it about it is its level of consistency. Every car in the game has authentic cockpit and engine sounds (unlike 5 and 6 that have blacked out interiors and generic engine sounds) and Scapes is really fun to play in if photo modes are your thing

Fuck youtu.be/g2m_7d4Qo6E

There needs to be a racing game where all the cars are concepts that never entered mass production

Attached: Dodge-Viper-GTS-R-1.jpg (800x558, 58K)

>It has an offline mode now

No it doesn't, you can play the game without an internet connection but it wont save your progress, therefore there is no such thing as an offline mode

Its an online only game and they treat people like idiots by trying to convince us you dont need an internet connection when you always do, which is why its their worst selling game ever and is a failure

I played the absolute shit out of GT1-GT4 as a kid. Among them, the first three games were my favourites, while everything from 4 onwards felt clinical and, for a lack of a better term, soulless.

In regards to GT1 & GT2, there are so many cars in those games that I have never really fucked around with, but I remember really liking a lot of the prize cars you get later in the game. (Nissan R390 Road Car, Nissan 300ZX GTO, Tommy-Kaira ZZII LM etc. etc.)

Fuck, if my PS1 and all of my games weren't boxed up a put in a storage unit so many miles away from my house I would probably dust them off and play them right now. (Besides, emulating PSX games has always been a pain in the ass for me for whatever reason.)

My Internet is potato-tier, so I haven't really tried GT Sport, but a lot of my friends are pretty into it have like discord pages for virtual racing leagues'n'shit.

GTpsp is the best GT game so far GT7 that's not even out yet might still be worse than it. use emulator and play it at like 1080p 200fps

if you really like the Driving licences and events thou you might enjoy GT4 more but for just pure mechanics GTpsp wins as it uses the new physics of gt5/6/sport while GT4 uses older stuff.

Cool

GT3 has always been my favorite. It was such a good looking early PS2 game, and I thought the physics carried over from GT2 nicely. The soundtrack was also great, and I really miss some of the tracks that haven't come back since. (Rome Circuit, Tahti Circuit, Special Stage Route 11, Complex Strip)

Gran Turismo Sport is good

Gran Turismo 4 was my favorite. Favorite car? Honda NSX type R.

It's a good racer, but it's radically different from GT1-4, which is what most people ITT are nostalgic for. Online races and ranked matches are good, but the singleplayer campaign is what I miss most from GT3 and 4 imo.

Attached: i1Pa2JRp4CTycSB.jpg (1280x960, 322K)

It has had that for ages. Just not in the same way as the usual modes.

For me it's the R32 gtr.

3 is great. Shame it's a bit of a bitch to emulate. Still the best racer of this type available.

It's good, but a huge departure from the theme of what Gran Turismo was. GT started and was, until Sport, a game about driving cars people could actually own. Lavish cars later on, but you always started with a shitbox. That progression isn't much of a thing in Sport since it just takes itself too seriously. It's a big E-sports/Motorsports circlejerk that sort of alienates casual veterans while appealing to a small margin of people who would rather play Assetto or PC. It feels good to play, but it feels pointless. Unlocking cars is a fucking slog, especially since the random car wins OFTEN give you duplicates and you have no option to sell prize cars. It's just too much of a grind.

Attached: 342142342342.jpg (400x302, 82K)

GT2 on PC with 3d acceleration support would be awesome

you can load pictures from your PS2 onto a USB stick and post them on Yea Forums later

Attached: superbird1.jpg (1280x960, 278K)

This takes me back. I remember playing Gran Turismo with my dad as a kid. That game is a lot of fun

It's not only good but a great racing game. But people really like their career modes I guess. I think GT7 with GT Sport's gameplay and ridiculously sexy cars and with career mode will be series best.

Attached: gts.webm (757x301, 1.48M)

The point of Sport is for casuals to git gud. It's actually the best racing game yet if you're a casual player who want to improve. The game throws ton of tutorials and modes at you for the sole purpose of LEARNING how to drive. In that aspect, it's admirable what the game is doing. It's trying to elevate a whole genre.

I unironically like tuning and hooning the weird/joke/concept cars, that's my favorite thing to do.

I have a soft spot for any build that repurposes slow/unsporty vehicles into something fun.

I remember putting a turbo on a 2CV to beat one championship in GT4

GT2 was the one I played the most, but GT4 is probably my favorite to this day, it aged a little bit better than GT2.

>What car was your favorite?
Escudo, literally the most shitposting car in all racing games.

Worth playing GT3 if I have 4?

There's a lot less cars and the campaign is shorter, but the physics are very different. It's a far cry from GT4's "understeer simulator," definitely worth a playthrough.

Same

It's anything but that, literally hundreds of thousands of unique players each week

GRID is a great game. GRID2 is also good, I think it gets too much flak.

First GRID is my personal GOAT of Racing. Literally 10 by 10 in every aspect

I upgraded my escudo in 3 to be so fucking powerful it was completely undrivable.
Of course though the Tom's supra is my carfu forever.

Oh yeah

i really liked GRID

GT3 is the only one I've played through just once. Actually I haven't even completed it because the later races are 30 minutes long with extremely lacking AI.
But this thread is making me want to start it over again.

My favourite of the series was 4 personally, I used to always get one of those Daihatsu Midgets and supe it up. 5 and 6 were ok, but I didn't put in as much time into those as I did 4. Good games though, at least from my casual perspective.

Thats how a IRL aw-11 would act lol. Mid engine cars are weird to attack corners with. I had one and i ended up getting my second miata after i gave up on trying to tame the red lady :c

What changed? How does emulate good?

This

is it me or the AI in gt sport isn't that bad as they make it out to be
I've seen AI cars battle each other and follow different lines

it was always intended as an online multiplayer game, they added career because people complained

how is 3?

Nice

Cool

What settings did you use, when I tried GT3, it was all fucked up.

3 is arcade 4. i don't mean it as in "arcade-sim", i mean that gt3 feels like a game you could play on arcade machine. gt4 is much larger and you're gonna love its handling model if you stick around long enough to understand it, it's perfection for gamepad controls. but if you're playing gt4 and thinking 'this game needs nice happy graphics and faster driving model', you might end up liking gt3 even more

every gt is nice. also, it's funny how gt2 AI is much more competitive and fun to drive against than gt3/4. gt2 ai was more or less recognizing your presence on the track, gt4 ai ignores you entirely

I think you have that reversed or never bothered turning off the assists. GT3 has way better handling than GT4 which barely even feels like you're driving a car.

no, i meant that. gt4 driving model makes every car extremely stable and easy to put the power or get out of understeer. it's great for limited precision gamepad controls

They all have cockpit views. 4 has the best campaign. Sport if you prefer multiplayer.

if you only played 6 and hated it you probably won't enjoy the others
a lot of people disliked 5 and 6 but probably for different reasons than you

Test Drive Unlimited has a large selection of concept cars, including the W12. The game's pretty outdated though.

2 and 3 are amazing games.

>that 6 year gap between 4 and 5
has there been a bigger disappointment than polyphony?

Only if it's the shigeno version

I replayed gt2 on every device I got and my all time favorite game. I loved to do limited (as much as it was possible) playthroughs, like: italian, german, 4doors or rwd only etc.

Polyphony needed a good quick in the ass.
Instead Sony close the Motorstorm and Wipeout studios while Polyphony keep their bullshit scott free
Fuck Sony

BRING BACK MOTOR TOON GRAND PRIX

GT3 has much better physics, but the graphics are much worse and there's less cars/tracks/customization

At least NFS:HP released right before GT5.

They even expanded. The Ueno studio which seems to be in full working function now considering the low number of job offerings on their website, is the Polyphony’s third main gaming development focused studio in Japan. They also have studios in Amsterdam, NE and Los Angeles, USA. playstationlifestyle.net/2019/01/02/new-polyphony-digital-studio-japan/

The PS1 is such a totally different beast to the PC version.

Kaz legit has dirt on Sony execs. There's no way after how awful GT:S launch was (The servers barely worked for the first two months) that he was able to get away with it while they shut down the Motorstorm/Driveclub guys when they had the same issue.

Well PD is also producing a lot of tech for Sony and sells their service to other car manufacturers. For example gtplanet.net/polyphony-digital-is-experimenting-with-procedurally-generated-cars/ could be used for a new mecha game

>could be used for a new mecha game
I wish.

>Well PD is also producing a lot of tech for Sony
They are the only ones using their engine and when Evolution and Studio Liverpool had asked to share resources before. PD wouldn't even send their car data to Evolution and everything had to be built ground up. Since their internal competition is dead they don't have to share shit (They will make Guerilla and ND do their own raytracing solutions if PS5 supports it. Guaranteed)
>and sells their service to other car manufacturers
Their only customers were Nissan and Renault who had digital dashes developed by PD during the early days of on board digital but they were beaten pretty quickly by Google and in house designers. The 2019 Nissan GT-R's dashboard and onboard is based off a Microsoft developed back end, even (The 2012 GT-R's was developed by PD). PD pretty much stopped when they had no customers left for it. Also real race teams and manufacturers either use Assetto Corsa Pro, rFactor Pro and iRacing for simulation.
>could be used for a new mecha game
As much as they would be better off doing it and not squeezing whats left out of the GT Brand. They will never ever make another Omega Boost which fucking sucks.

Why does Forza feel so bland compared to Gran Turismo?

GT is more on the simulation side, forza more arcade.

well fuck. I guess it would be typical of sony to compete with itself and sleep on their success.

Gran Turismo is not fun

One of the Driveclub devs even said one of the reasons they were so late and missed PS4 launch was because they had to rebuild the entire Motorstorm engine from scratch for the game instead of pooling resources. Eventually the game turned out just OK but they were spending so much time building instead of creating content they were at a huge disadvantage and had to spend time fighting fires with the servers and building post launch features and making a Sony mandated VR game. All the GAF shilling couldn't save it in the end though. Game had problems because the handling was as bland as The Crew, even in Hardcore, so it wasn't perfect but at least they made an attempt. It could have been so much easier if Polyphony had actually gone and shared their engine and resources instead of throwing their dick around so they got two great games instead of one average game and Always online iRacing Babby edition that only ResetEra dialates over and that sold so badly for such a huge IP they had to give it away with VR Headsets.
>Literally more soul in the first picture than GT 5/6 and Sport
How could one developer fuck up so much from a proven concept?

I've been playing Dirt Rally 2 lately and it makes me shake my fist angrily.

you're not fun

>GAF
um sweetie we don't say that word anymore

>fall in love with all the cool japanese cars as a kid
>wanted to buy them in real life
>tfw learning that most of them never came to the states

GT3 was always my favorite, I used that gaudy yellow Dodge Viper forever until I figured out that the pimped out MR2 was totally unstoppable.

>nissan R390 road car
>only 1 was ever made

That’s nice to hear OP but I prefer the first Gran Tourismo.
Still though good game

I put like 200 hours into GT2 on my psp years ago
Is the actual PSP one good? Pretty sure it ran at 60 FPS

my car

play 3 and then play 5.

>back in the day
>get home from school around 3:30
>watch last bit of pokemon and a episode of dragon ballz
>play some gran turismo 3
>suddenly its 9 or 10 at night

The LeMans 24hr has had some amazing cars. Would make for a good game.

4
6 is alright

>tfw cant farm prize cars in GT3
whats a good way to make money?

>the music that plays when winnign a car
>the classy way congratulations is written
fuck i forgot how much i missed this
