I've played it on release, and had to stop due to game ending bugs, was very disappointed with it.
To be honest, I might have enjoyed it more but I had expectations since EVERYONE was yelling that it was GOTAYEY, best rpg ever released etc.
Fallout 4 was fucking dogshit though, holy shit I do not want to see the next TES game.

Followersare hollow npc, they have no personality, literally walking bags for your loot.
The world is bland, it may have beautiful landscapes and all, but it's hollow at the core, bethesda did nothing to give the world relevance outside filling it with dungeons who are just corridors with the same loot.
And the quests, the only ones who barely have some depth are the guild storylines, the rest (main quest included) are the blandest shit you'll ever witness literally just, go to x dungeon get x thing and come back.
Gameplay too it's not that great, difficulty it's the classic bethesda one where if you increase it on hard you get oneshotted and if you put it to normal everything becomes a joke.
Not good.

Literally one of the best games of all time. There's a reason for its massive popularity and it's not all because of dumb casuals and the aggressive marketing.
It has many many flaws and even more missed opportunities but the experience as a whole remains remarkably engaging for a game that size. The worldbuilding, atmosphere, soundtrack, things like that don't fall too short from what you'd expect. It's very casualized compared to Morrowind but that's not entirely bad.
I guess it's bit of a buzzword by now but Skyrim really feels epic, in the best sense of the word.
It's becoming a bit dated and there are other fantasy and RPG games that do individual things much better, but I don't know of any that manage to deliver such a consistently good whole.

I really liked Skyrim when it first came out but I can't really bring myself to replay it when I know that other ARPGs exist that do combat so much better. I can even go back to Fallout 3 and dump dozens of hours into it on a new save but Skyrim is just so unintuitive gameplay wise and combat doesn't get any fun until much later into the skill trees (and it's not even that fun then)
Play Dragon's Dogma, and lament it's shortcomings, but then get hype for 2

Meanwhile I bought Oblivion three times and played it for a 4-figure number of hours. Most of that was outside of Steam, though, since Steam wasn't big when Oblivion just came out, so the Steam number isn't terribly impressive (101, all of it recent).

I dunno if I got older or something, but I just couldn't get into skyrim, the quests were all just simple fetch quests, the removal of spell crafting hurt, all the locations and dungeons looks the same, and the mods seem to be less interesting than any III / IV mods, its been 8 years and there is nothing that great out.

If you're not lazy to mod, with like 150 mods your game can be kinda decent. Then it gets even better if you install sex mods, but then it really becomes just a h game with a fantasy setting.

I wanted to give the game a fair shake and wanted to like it. I explored every nook and cranny. But the result was that I just cemented my opinion that the game is trash so I never came back to it and never felt like replaying it.
Meanwhile I replayed Oblivion like 20 times over the years and felt the need to buy it entire three times.
