And I'm not even talking about piracy sites since nothing is ever hosted on them, only links. It's like companies don't understand what torrents are. As long as you have a functioning search engine on a website, people will mirror, upload and share EVERYTHING! It's like playing tag with a rocket launching into space, you'll never win!
So what the fuck does this mean for developers and companies? Will they just have to accept piracy for the rest of eternity??
>hey Jim >hey Alex >we project to sell 20,000 on opening week netting us 1.2 million however let us allow 20% for piracy therefore reducing sales to $960,000. >damn, we were so close to breaking even with all our costs equally 1 million. Guess management will have to slash my paycheck to cover losses...
PS: I don't care what your moral compass on piracy is, the fact is people made a product, expect to sell it (ie. GET PAID) and piracy takes the money transaction out of it. You can lie to yourself about oh it's just a copy or piracy """"entices""" you to later buy it but the fact is you took something without paying
>I don't care what your moral compass on piracy is >proceeds to tell people they're wrong so you do care. They can't game industry is doomed to die, good riddance.
Ethan Cox
I'm just trying to stamp out the most common thing people say about piracy. If you're stealing, don't act like you're trying to uphold any morals. I pirate lots of shit and never try to justify anything
cdn.netzpolitik.org/wp-upload/2017/09/displacement_study.pdf friendly remainder that fighting gaming piracy is 100% pointless and companies only do it for 2 reasons: 1) they're just uninformed (stupid) 2) they dont want people finding out their game is shit before they buy it tl;dr pc gaming piracy has no negative impact (or even slight positive impact) on sales
Tyler Davis
? The path to beating piracy is clear and has been demonstrated with PC games: >Always online, lootbox, skinnerbox shit. >eSports. >paid betas. >paid development upfront with Kickstarter Thanks PC and pirates for wrecking videogames
Adam Lewis
why doed most of Yea Forums hate piracy? imagine actually paying €50+ for a game
Jose Campbell
You should bother preceding someone else's justification for stealing. You should just act like when you are pirating no giving a shit, it's the fact you care about how other people feel about piracy specifically how they feel when doing it and not if they do it or not, that you even feel the need to write in caveats like that.
Caleb Hernandez
Jim and Alex wanted to make le epic vidya games despite knowing how shit the industry is. Why should I care about them over saving my money? It's a dog eat dog world
Kevin Sullivan
Probably mostly shills and corporate cocksuckers.
Michael Ward
I hate it because it basically drastically lowered the quality of PC gaming along with Steam sales.
Anthony Perry
pirated game =/= lost sale
Luke Torres
They don't do that shit becasue of pirates OP they do it because MONEY. you can't pirate (retail) wow but it's designed to be a skinner box so you keep playing. You can't pirate overwatch but it's got LOOTBOXES so you keep buying. You can't pirate league but they've got an esports league so you keep watching. Paid betas are for retards who'd give the dev more money, blame steam if anything for early access. paid development upfront with Kickstarter, this isn't a bad thing the problem with crowd funded games is the devs usually fail to deliver or fuck you over when the game is made, and gamers treat it like a preorder instead of gambling.
Samuel Diaz
thats from legit stydy conducted by EU: "For games, the estimated effect of illegal online transactions on sales is positive because only free games are more likely displaced by online copyright infringements than not. The overall estimate is 24 extra legal transactions (including free games) for every 100 online copyright infringements, with an error margin of 45 per cent (two times the standard error). The positive effect of illegal downloads and streams on the sales of games may be explained by players getting hooked and then paying to play the game with extra bonuses or at extra levels."
and
"Displacement rates for games have been little analysed in previous literature, but it is interesting that a study of Bastard et al. (2012) also indicate significant positive effects, suggesting that games have succeeded in turning 150 Estimating displacement rates of copyrighted content in the EU illegal online transactions to their advantage by hooking up gamers and offering more levels / bonuses that are available only after paying." pages 149-150
Sebastian Adams
>Oh yeah its definitely the Pirates fault
Not greedy companies that want all the money in the world and "fans" of games that are so blinded by brand recognition and "loyalty" to a company that they keep buying those shitty games which lets companies see what they can get away with the next time.
They keep feeding the greedy cat and it comes back for more see Fallout 76, EA and every 60 game that has micro transactions in it.
Piracy isn't stealing though. And this isn't a moral issue with opinions: the law is very clear on this. Stealing is stealing, piracy is piracy, they're two different things.
Connor Torres
Yes: Money lost from Steam Sale cheapskates and pirates, I'm glad we agree. These practices were introduced on PC for a reason. Consoles still get regular single player retail exclusives. That shit is financial suicide
Leo Phillips
It's not stealing, retard. When will cucks finally learn this?
Kevin Ward
well to be fair TPB is fucking shit now and 1337x is meh, so they certainly succeeded on some level. KAT was really good and it died, possibly because of mismanagement too, which made others very cautious. And then WhatCD died, which made things even more dangerous so we're left with a lot of mediocre and shady sites
Jaxson Jackson
Why the fuck is Wikipedia listing stuff about piracy websites?
The point has never been to stop piracy, only to make it inconvenient enough that the majority of people find it easier to just pay for the thing.
Easton Rodriguez
>Thanks PC and pirates for wrecking videogames You're welcome, I prefer this shit industry to die, rather than pay my games and services by part.
Levi Gonzalez
There's been a lot of scientific research that shows piracy barely hurts sales. It equally benefits sales as it hurts them, but most of the time has no significant impact on sales.
>"Piracy does not induce any displacement of the legal music purchase in digital format; it might even slightly boost sales" -Belleflamme & Peitz (2014) Digital Piracy
Robert Young
>to beat Piracy we need esports what the fuck am I reading?
Ryder Turner
Thanks for vindicating piracy.
Thomas Adams
even with all of that i’d sill pirate. i like free games
Andrew Gray
How will anti-piracy fags ever recover? Getting slammed down by science once again.
Cooper Gutierrez
Dude just get qbittorent and download search plugins therefore you never have to visit any cancerous sites. The software searches for you and you just magnet download then and there.
btw it even lets you search dead torrent sites like Demonoid and Kickass
Grayson Watson
>downloading torrents without checking rating/comments/uploader great way to fuck your system with malware or get yourself &v

All parties are guilty.

Video game Publishers want to get rid of single player games and make every game stream only can you guys see this?
Ryan Wood
>, I'm glad we agree your reading comprehension must be shit
Kevin Stewart
Remember to save these studies for future reference. You killed OP and the thread. Just spam these articles (or additional ones) each time some shill starts about piracy being bad.
Ryan Lewis
Piracy ruined good games and now you're forced to pirate while consoles get good exclusives. Bravo.
Eli Martinez
>emuparadise there's better sites Nintendo don't know about.
You said money and I agreed. It's the same barrel of monkeys. There's a reason consoles get good games still.
Jack Sanchez
streaming latency is awful
Jordan Bell
I don't believe in protecting IP and restricting the supply of infinite digital goods to make a buck is immoral. >But games can't be made for free Sure but you don't have to make money on the point of sale.
It's not though, i said money, you said money put additional context that wasn't in my post at all and said we agreed. I don't know what third world country you come from, that's an incredibly weird thing to do in america
Blake Nelson
>Piracy ruined good games ...?
Joshua Price
I can't help it if the American education system has failed you and given you small-picture syndrome. I can explain it for you over-and-over, but I can't understand it for you.
Adam Turner
A I could detect esl from the way you typed but this makes it obvious, it also explains why you don't have the reading comprehension necessary to understand what people say to you.
Bentley Williams
The important thing to recall is that the pirated copy/lost sale equivalency is false. Also, the video game industry is so blatantly anti-consumer and so blatantly greedy that you should not have any moral qualms about not paying for their product.
Once they deliver a product worth spending money on, despite it being available for free, buying the product becomes worthwhile again.
Brayden King
>consoles get good exclusives Wut.

Imagine unironically thinking that piracy = lost sales for third worlders it's either >pirate OR >don't play it at all some fucker from Ukraine won't spend 30-60 dollars on a game when he only makes 3-400 dollars a month, you fucking moron
Evan White
Thanks for the news kind user, I didn't know they made a workaround and pretty much just ignored emulation for a year. With this I can go back to download the ISO's and roms I missed on my collection. :3
>Seething third world shills What countries are the game devs hiring you from?
Owen Wood
Explain why being able to legally own an idea (copyright) is moral.
Adam Young
Ah yes. I forgot the only source of movies is netflix.
Nathaniel Miller
Learn the English language before you come here. Yea Forums is American.

>t. poor read comprehension shill please continue I am cracking up while I drink my starbucks

>Piracy ruined good games
You fucking zoomer, piracy has been with us since the birth of video games, it hasn't ruined anything. In fact I would say the insane lengths to copy protect games (as well as other media) has ruined them. Without piracy a lot of legacy games would be lost forever never to be played again which it has with some with Scott Pilgrim vs The World video game lost forever until some pirate grabs a digital copy from an old console and emulates it.
Hudson Nguyen
Nigga calm the fuck down, streaming is always going to happen just hope isps are too slow and lazy to meet the demand.
If you were not going to buy the game new anyway then it’s not stealing

>09 F9 11 02 9D 74 E3 5B D8 41 56 C5 63 56 88 C0 Reminder that people tried making publishing this number a copyright violation. This number is the only proof needed to show the absurdity of intellectual property in the digital age. If you can represent any data structure as a prime number (which you can), then the very notion of digital copyright is absurd.
Evan Thomas
>dude... everything is like made atoms and quarks and quorks... ownership can't exist because of this... cringe
Jose Martinez
Piracy doesn't even affect sales, like mentioned already ITT Greey corporate cucks who don't understand facts, but rely on gut feeling have ruined good games. By implementing DRM, because they're afraid of 'lost sales'. Which aren't a thing.
Aiden King
You've never read anything of note and you have terrible diction and syntax. Don't post anymore until you learn basic grammatical structure. Enjoy your five-dollar latte you illiterate, fat pig.
So many years of the golden age of piracy do we have left? Also you are aware that console people private all the fucking time?
Angel Diaz
That's still being generous.
Connor Hughes
False equivalency, until we can reshape matter as freely as we can with numbers. And once we can do that, copyright and money aren't really anyone's concern anymore.
Zachary Ortiz
isn't it harder for consoles or something? t.PCfag
You still mad I btfo'ed you earlier? Don't worry champ one day you'll learn to read and understand what i was saying to you.
Carson Price
Why are furries always such degenerates?
Camden Gomez
Emulators and roms/isos for old games are necessary to keep some of those titles alive. Sure, Nintendo may rerelease it's biggest sellers, but I can think of a ton of great games from the Xbox/PS2/Gamecube era and earlier that have never seen a rerelease or legal digital option. Or they get some fucked android or iOS version instead. If I want to play Dino Crisis or a non-fucked version of Chrono Trigger again, my options are either piracy or give some greasy fuck on the other side of the country for his dubious copy that may not even work, with money that they original devs and publishes won't see because they already made their profit off that copy 20 years ago and won't make any more off it.
Austin Adams
It depends on circumstance most of the times it's just applying software, but sometimes you need to hard mod the console itself. Point remains a lot of console fags just mod their console and enjoy free games on it.
There is only one path, whale the paycucks and ignore piracy. It was something Mobile started, but Paradox has shown you can apply the concept to niche games.
Oliver Adams
The study still implies piracy is only good if some pirates buy it legally afterwards.
Chase Phillips
i dont think their goal is to kill the piracy. they know it can't be done. they want to limit it so not every retard can do it. normies, little kids, housewifes wont go installing chrome extensions and looking for private trackers. everything past a big download button is secret technology
I almost stopped pirating completely because it became relatively unaccessible after torrent site after torrent site went down.
However, I got into private trackers and now I'm fully on board again. All I had to do was become a power user on AnimeBytes and get into their invite forum, then I got invites to GazelleGames, PTP, BTN and Redacted. Now I'm set on all fronts.
Xavier Hughes
Which they do, what the article also mentions. Hell, I'm one of them. Even recently; I pirated DMC5, liked it a lot more than I thought I would and immediately bought it.
Owen James
>the fact is people made a product, expect to sell it (ie. GET PAID) and piracy takes the money transaction out of it. What if the product they made is shit and is focused on wringing all the money they can from customers? What then? Do you think they still are suppose to get payed for that product? Regardless of quality? After all "the fact is people made a product, expect to sell it (ie. GET PAID)"
Ryan King
What's the place to go now that pcgamesdownload died? I got my PC games from there.
Matthew Morris
Make shit games. Currently they are doing really well at this.
AHEM, I made a game, I expect to get payed and no don't use "it's a shit product" as an excuse, give me real reasons why you aren't buying my game right now you immoral person!
Connor Bennett
I make games and I freely distribute a torrent link
Evan Torres
That just because you pirate it doesn't mean you were going to buy it.
Jaxon Lewis
It's amazing what weaponised autism can do. I don't know how software programmers or hobbists do this amazing shit in their free time

Seriously: They don't care about nerds like us who will ALWAYS be able to pirate something if we want to.
They care about normalfags being able to easily pirate, and they care even more (which they are very true with) when those normalfag website are even earning money with the piracy. And this, the making money is indeed the worst kind of piracy and should be jailed. Not since today they are the worst and cancer of the whole scene. Good there are scene members who doxx and report them if they know someone who tries to make money with it.
Ryan Long
Games should have a limited refund policy like a movie.
Justin Ramirez
games should have demos, but game devs know demos make people not want to buy it
Jose Gray
Same with reviews, that's why they are crawling to Epic right now.
Jose Rogers
fuck off desu
Andrew Evans
Yes, but you can copy music tapes from your friends or records movies from TV onto VHS. Piracy isn't as simple as all that OP. Until that time I will download that one game I would not have bought else anyway
Gavin Ward
Piracy is truly a service problem Since the major push towards digital marketplaces game prices haven't decreased when they should have as the price for digital distribution is far less than physical There are people who only want to play old games but see no reason forking out hundreds of dollars to a bunch of people for used goods. Nintendo having a virtual console was great, just not sure what the prices are/were like for them so can't say if it worked. It is the right way to go though, especially for first party games of which the licensing shouldn't be a major hassle to sort out. Would love to see Sony adopt something even if it like what Microsoft is doing. Lack of demos nowadays compared to previous years is a turn off for some as they want to try out the game before they buy it, i my self often do this and have gone on to buy many games because i wanted to show the publisher there was demand for that game. Another factor is pricing, some countires depending on a digital storefront they use will have prices more expensive compared to usa customers. I know Steam and GoG does regional pricing which definitely needs to be the standard. Ultimately and i think the biggest thing is games need to be made that people will want to pay money for. There is only one instance where i have spent more money on game dev/publisher without anything in return and that is with factorio. i pirated it at first but loved the fuck out of it. bought then donated 100 dollars. They also have a demo and i tell people to try it out which is what you want people to say rather than saying pirate it to try it
Owen Clark
OP (ie: me) is a fucking idiot. You paste this into the URL once you install the addon
games should be of high quality that focuses on customer experience first and foremost, only then can it demand money as compensation for delivering something nice
Benjamin Robinson
How do I get pokemon let’s go pickschu on my switch for free ?

Start a nuclear war resulting in human extinction, or at least regression to a point where we can't support written language. Then there will be no piracy.
