The only PS2 MegaTen games I'm particularly attached to are Raidou 1 and Nocturne, seeing as Raidou 2 was a bit of a letdown, I don't like DDS or P3 too much, and while I like 4, I think 4G was a step up. One thing the PS2 era of MegaTen has going for it is that it was the only time the series got a lot of games in 3D, P5 is the only fully 3D MegaTen to come out since then, and the only other ones are IV and IV:A. Hopefully they can have a return to the kind of approach they had to developing MegaTen games again now that they finally have HD Demon models, but I wouldn't count on it.

It made me feel like i was actually the leader of a team where i got to suggest they do things and bark tactics at them but they're still just high schoolers+kid+dog+robot at the end of the day so sometimes they just did dumb shit that i had to deal with.
The ai isn't even that bad and if you gave them the heal command on your turn they'd almost always heal on theirs, anyway.

Soul Hackers had something that I feel did a much better job accomplishing what they tried to do with P3, where your Demons had loyalty and while you gave them direct commands, low loyalty Demons could dismiss your commands and do what they thought was best instead. That, to me, much better conveys both of the things they were trying to convey with P3's combat, which is that you're just giving orders to your party and don't have complete control over them, individualizing the protagonist, and your party are their own characters with their own feelings on how to approach the situation. It's a better fit for Soul Hackers because your switching out party members and don't have to deal with a low loyalty Demon if you don't want to, where in P3 you have a limited amount of characters to take with you and if they were constantly disobeying you it would make the game a complete chore, but I still think a concept like that could work well with Persona, especially considering Persona has S. Links as an obvious way of gaining loyalty from your teammates.

I don't have a problem with that aspect of it, what hurts the pacing to me is the abundance of cutscenes along with the plot having to fit into the calendar system which tends to mean it moves at a snail's pace. I enjoy the balance between the dungeon crawling and the VN segments, at least in 4 and 5, and I think the episodic approach they took to P5's story was, at least in theory, a good way to fit the plot into the calendar system. The needless amount of dialogue and cutscenes still hurt its pacing though.

As for characters, all the P5 boys got more development than the P3 ones barring Junpei same for most of the girls minus Haru

The core gameplay in 2 is fun: it just needed more challenge to make it feel like the mechanics matter (didn't they have a chance with the re-release?) Mixing/matching personas with every party member and leveling them up individually is satisfying, but I feel a lack of lethality and meaningful options in combat.

Then there's negotiation, which is a precious idea, but often feels like a waste of time with rewards that are too important to pass up.

Yes, and at least they tell you that from the outset in 3. In 4 you were looking for the same perpetrator the whole time. You never find any leads until later on, so you're just dealing with the fallout from the attempted murders. That's the premise. In 5 it seems far more contrived because you just happen to run into increasingly despicable people until you're fighting corrupt politicians. It's the presentation that matters. There's no rhyme or reason to it in 5. The fact that it's structured in expected in 3 tempers your expectations. 5 just betrays your expectations with a boring linear escalation that the characters kind of stumble into.

I got a lot of mileage out of the cast's starters in P2. You're encouraged to max out their levels and they have a chance to mutate stat increases

I love 3's aesthetic. There's something about it that makes it fit so well with the heavy themes it tries to portray. If they do remake it, I hope it doesn't have this glossy anime filter P5 had. Also maybe add more common class events or the SEES hanging out when they start getting along more with each other and demote Aigis to avoid hitting on any choice you make during the story by being the "canon girl". Yukari's the best, closely followed by Mitsuru. I also wish they handled The Answer a bit more tastefully.

God, that shit fucking sucks to deal with though. You somehow manage to complete every S.Link and are rewarded with a fully customizable Persona, but you have to spend hours opening and closing the fusion screen to actually get what you want. Say what you will about 5, but being able to choose inherited skills was a godsend.

P5 is the one you attack and you are going after the targets not waiting for them to come at you either in 30 days or semi randomly
