Its almost surreal to think how big and promising they were in the 00s, only for them to just disappear. Turns out they're just as greedy as the rest but infinitely more lazy.
Its almost surreal to think how big and promising they were in the 00s, only for them to just disappear...
you don't know what Proton is because you don't know anything about video games. You're a console gamer or, at best, someone who isn't actually good at using computers, just happens to own one
So while Valve is out here quietly making sure you can continue playing your games and using your computer freely, without ever being locked into one ecosystem
you're...shitposting. they aren't a developer, so why evaluate them as one?
PS: HL3 is being made and coming out.
wow you mean a company tries to earn money instead of entertaining people out of the kindness of their own hearts?
wtf i hate gaming now
they've become complacent, once you own most of the PC gaming market share you don't have to keep trying.
I hope Epic's rapid growth will make them get their shit together.
>Linux support
Based
Look at this fucking shill
>HL3
The HL series was trash and overrated.
idk the fact that they're btfoing windows is pretty good
>just disappear
>Without being locked into ecosystem
Good goy just remember none of the games you have on steam are your own
COPE
That's every digital platform and console. Unless you only play N64 games
Portal 2 was SHIT
you don't "own" any game you don't have the source code to
Valve has their hands in so many business ventures its no wonder that they haven't been working on games.
Not to mention their company structure makes it hard as shit to even start work on a game.
Why don't they buy Platinum or From Software and have them be their dedicated games department so Valve can do whatever the fuck it is that they do?
>why doesn't a company in bellvue that retard proofs their games buy a japanese company that doesn't?
Gee I dunno
>why doesn't a company [that doesn't make games anymore] buy a [company that makes good video games] when the aforementioned first company has been known to absorb teams since 1998
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
But they do make games. You just didn't like the last one that came out
Dude, just because they don't develop games that you want anymore doesn't mean they're gone.
On the opposite, just google how much they did with linux, vulkan, hardware and vr. I'm not even talking about steam which is just great way to get, gift, discuss and track games.
"Muh half life". It was great and it is dead now. Deal with it. I know it hurts.
Because Artifact was such a darling of the masses and the niches all 'round, right?
The actual state of valve shills
Like I said, you didn't like it. Doesn't mean Valve didn't make it
Valve and steam are garbage and I honestly prefer console gaming now.
The steam store is just way too bloated 99% of the games are literal trash
What I can't understand is why they bought Campo Santo. Valve had a history of absobing promising small indie companies with an unique idea of a game and expand it into a major, full project.
But we are talking about Firewatch.
Yeah Valve is so lazy, it's not like they poured R&D into linux gaming, controller support API for all modern controllers instead of just the Xbox, steam workshop, user reviews, VR development and more.
Valve is making PC gaming a far better place with it than without it.
>PS: HL3 is being made and coming out.
people literally don't care anymore.
This, and if they had kept their promise on allowing anything then all the trash would be a small price to pay.
They weren't promising though, Half Life is the most over rated series of all time and has done more damage to gaming than any other series, Half Life 2 is easily the most over rated game of all time and has done more damage to gaming than any other game, Valve has has done more damage to gaming than any other company.
I started pirating because of Steam, I tried to get people to boycott Valve into bankruptcy after they launched Steam and again when they released HL2 but no one listened. This is not the PC gaming I was hoping for in the 90s and early 00s.
Steam was the consolization of PC, Valve was always cancer.
This is the perfect opportunity to start demanding DRM free physical releases on PC but everyone is too busy praising le gaben
Proton gives developers yet another reason to not develop games natively for Linux.
Based
It was like that in the 6th gen and early 7th gen
>you don't own your car unless you own all the engineering plans for it too
I happily pirated Sekiro, fuck paying for digital distribution
PC was better before Steam existed zoomer
We appreciate all that you do, Gabe.
Please force your entire studio to finish what you've started with TF2, rollback the cancer that is matchmaking to promote community hosted experiences and modding, and lock abused network commands behind sv_pure with arbitrary values, and then sunset the damn game with the damn Heavy update.
I never understood the valve dickriding.
Half Life were just okay and Portal 1 was decent.
I never had steam because I pirate.
Half-Life modding was really, really good, back in the day, so by school rools that automatically makes Half-Life 1 good game
you don't own anything that's protected by any form of DRM. That includes Steam and it includes locked down console hardware.
The only purchases that you can actually own these days are found on sites like GoG.
Because they have a talented staff. Campo Santo was founded by Telltale employees who left before Telltale became shit and dead.
I don't actually want Half-Life 3.
I just want them to make single-player games, anything that's not VR-focused is fine. Portal 3 would be one of the simplest to pull off effectively, probably.
eh, it's all part of the whatever is going on right now. videogame industry should fail, not a single quality game should be released a year, only then everything will burn and new golden age of art will emerge.
