Push him into a corner and you can stun lock him when he does the jump back animation.

The move you want to bait out is the one where he throws 2 shurikens and then does a jump attack. The range is pathetic so you can just walk out of range, then punish. I used whirlwind attack for that, followed by an r1 (will either hit, or he will jump away and it will miss)

Other than that just guard my dude. Deflect if you're good at it, but it's not even required.

I usually just step to the side and strike his back 2-3 times when he does that.
Despite what people were thinking when the game released, the dodge absolutely has I-frames, as I learnt in this battle. His dash attack can be punished by dodging into it.

Only boss I would recommend "dodge behind him and r1" is corrupted monk.

Try a little harder.

Here's a tip. Don't use the spear prosthetic, or a charged r1. Any thrust attack basically. He will Mikiri your ass for 80% of your health.

I platinumed bloodborne, and I find I'm way better at dodging than parrying. I just can't get parrying downpat for some reason.
