The game itself is fine. A bit experimental which leads to some wacky shit with availability but it's still far from bad.
The reviews for the game are embarrassing to look at, saying shit like "the game doesn't make good use of motion controls" or "the game was unplayably hard". RD was out before Brawl by roughly a year depending on region with a limited print run given PoR's low sales. Even if copies were still available in regular retail a year later there wouldn't be that many to buy up. Speaking of limited copies, PoR resales at absurd prices (up to 255 USD), if demand didn't exist then prices would not be that high (for comparison: RD is 80 dollars, Shadow Dragon is 120 bucks, FE7 is 60, and Sacred Stones is under 40).
I'd further argue that the type of person who plays Smash Bros isn't necessarily the type of person who'd play Fire Emblem, and wouldn't actually buy the game despite maining/liking Ike in Brawl (hence the term "secondaries"). I think you'd have a much better standing if you tried arguing that Ike fans aren't actual Fire Emblem fans than to saying Ike isn't popular at all.

Similarly you'd have a better argument here by comparing sales of Ike-specific merchandise to the specific merch of other FE characters. Using the game sales includes too many other factors to safely assume that it's all about the main character's popularity (things like graphics, story, and you know, GAMEPLAY), otherwise it could be argued that Vergil is the least popular DMC antagonist because DMC3 had the worst sales (or to use a Yea Forums example, that Rey is more popular than Darth Vader because her movies made more money). Your logic also creates an exploitable hole: if character popularity is determined entirely by sales of the game they are in, then all characters within a game have equal popularity, and therefore nobodies from a high selling game should be more popular than characters from a low selling game. Is Omozu more popular than Ike because he's from Fates which sold more than PoR/RD combined?

See that's a much better argument than sales of the game, because it ties directly to the character and avoids the many other factors that went into that game's sales not related to that character. At the same time, it's not conclusive for the same reasons you dismissed the magazine poll: the sample size is only of artists who get their stuff posted on the boorus, and on top of that each artist can "vote" many times. I mean look at the dedicated Ike R63 guy posted in this thread, that artist alone inflates Ike's numbers even though it's only one person drawing that character many times, if we assume the same thing happens with Femui then this metric is really inaccurate.
In order to use this metric more effectively, you would have to break down the number of artists per character (to trim out multiple "votes"), aggregate the views/likes/whatever for images across multiple platforms (potentially weighting based on the artist's popularity independent of what they draw for FE), and so on to try and decipher the true size of the fanbase, which honestly would probably be less accurate than the magazine poll or CYL (though as a stats nerd it would be fun to compile regardless).
