As long as you're not some grapixfag, and you're okay with some clunkyness that comes from the era the game was made in, you'll have a good time.

Which FF you like the most depends on your personal preferences. I have 9 as my favorite because I like my units having set job classes with a lot of depth, and love the setting. 7's system has your units as blank slates that you equip and remove abilities from, so it'll be more up your alley if you like stuff like that.

They're both good imo. It just depends more on if you prefer the sci-fi setting or fantasy setting.

FF9 really worked more as a kid when the game wasn't completely split open. Like when the concepts of overworlds and driving vehicles were still novel.

Kinda replayed about 10 years ago and the game shits the bed around Disc 3, even now when playing it on PS4, I find Disc 1 short as fuck (under 10 hours) and all the magic is gone. Still a lot of good moments and set pieces, but it's more of a interesting game to look at rather than one to play. It really was one of the last few games to actually capture that Final Fantasy feel, other than 10 and 12

They weren't meant to be novel, they were always QoL features that slot thematically into the world. No one wants to actually drudge through the world map on foot once you've opened up a significant amount of it. They're one of the best mechanics for games with over worlds.

I like FF9 but its gameplay is such a slog and I hate how half the cast seems totally useless. In FF7 and FF8, you could build the characters up to competent levels.

Why would you rank 4 that high? It kills most of the characters in the story, but bring them back alive in the end. Cecil's brother also went in the dindu nuffin category.

I liked the game but honestly I think it is overrated. The characters and themes are good but the game is very easy and boring at many parts and the whole steal mechanic sucks.
