It's a fighting game without a big name or a big gimmick.
They made a good game, mind, but Saisenzen were fighting an uphill battle from the start as far as sales go.
As well: It's a fighting game that's not "E-Sports Ready". Fighting games have to be designed for tournies now.

No dedicated servers. Connecting to others for a match was beyond shit and quickly difficult to find anyone to actually play with. Also no DLC to keep people returning.

Meanwhile SNK Heroines decided to retool how to fight and finish a match which tanked it after launch. Meanwhile each DLC character is fucking $5 a pop.

It was fun, but a bit shallow. It probably could have used more recognizable indie characters.

Back on topic, the game needed a general speed update badly. The movement and attack animations felt like molasses.
