What are some characters you are genuinely surprised didn't became playable in Smash Ultimate?
What are some characters you are genuinely surprised didn't became playable in Smash Ultimate?
A retro character from a dead IP like with past games.
I probably was delusional but I legit expected an ARMS rep.
Banjo, Isaac, Skull Kid and Geno are long overdue
Bomberman being just an assist was a shocker
Heihachi
Shadow and a new Zelda rep.
My obsessively favorite third party characters that appeals to my 13 year old fanfictions needs that don't fit into the series whatsoever but I still want it to happen because fuck you.
It died down after Simon's reveal & everyone is here taking most likely a strong amount of the dev time. Bomberman is kind of like Konami's Megaman: A somewhat cartoony character that just seemed really fitting to be in Smash Bros. I'm okay with him being assist though. Maybe next game?
The moment Sakurai was revealed to be the director again I knew this wouldn't end well.
I didn't have a doubt in my mind after K. Rool that Geno would be in.
>Outfit in 4
>Arena icon
>Sakurai admitting he had high polling
>no mario rpg rep
I'm shocked Paper Mario didn't make it either. People have wanted both for so long, rpg mario fans are some of the most diehard nintendo enthusiasts. Geno just seems so obvious with his moves and sakurais love for obscure nintendo shit.
> Unironically wanting Shadow
Autism
Legit surprised by a lack of Shadow the Hedgehog. Thought he was for sure. Not a fan of him, per se, I just thought it was given.
Someone from Arms or Xenoblade Chronicles 2. There really isn't any Nintendo Switch representative character.
I'd argue that's Link, personally.
Slam dunk semi-clone material. Not quite as easy as an Echo, but you've got a huge head start on both moveset and model already, so it wouldn't be as intensive as a from-the-ground-up character, either.
Ashley was my most wanted, Assist again. Meowth, Poke Ball again. Isabelle is like a silver medal for me but I barely use her. I expected Shadow to make it in and half expected Waluigi to be DLC because of Reggie acknowledging him.
Reading comprehension is hard.
Same. When they first mentioned Echo Fighters, my first thought was Shadow. The whole point is to include clones and somehow the epitome of video game doppelgangers doesn't get in as a clone fighter? I don't even know how that happened.
TOO NEW PEOPLE! Why did people expect a Switch character?
it's the same reason why Inkling wasn't in Smash 4
Should really be in as an Isabelle style semi-clone
to be honest Bomberman was wtf were they thinking
as well as Isaac, so popular in every pool, it was a bit obnoxious from them
shadow not an echo
nothing from xenoblade or arms as well
also Geno
i kinda think they shat the bed with the newcomers
I expected Inkling for smash 4 dlc.
Shadow the Hedgehog
So many things were pointing toward his presence as an obvious echo fighter, yet Sakurai blue balls us for 4 months then decide to throw a big fuck you by ruthlessly showing him being an AT.
He's been an AT for 10 fucking years. The only third party to be so.
Same. I was honestly expecting Springman to be in, like actually expecting his announcement any day rather then "yeah its possible".
Unironically Shadow. I'll do you one better, there are more Sonic autists that would have been happy with Shadow than Street fighter autists are happy with Ken. Also Ken fucks with Chun-Li's chances, and that's no good.
It was an understandable decision considering it was a choice between Simon & Richter vs. Bomberman. But goddamn, I'll never forget that heart-sinking feeling from the AT reveal. Bomberman was the only realistic character left that I wanted in Smash.
Felt better after getting one of my NEVER EVERS in Joker though.
I'm not at all upset that Shadow isn't in the game, just a bit shocked that he isn't. Of all the characters, he made the most logistical sense.
I thought that he was a shoe in after that pretty realistic Ken leak showed up, Ken and Richter made it seem really obvious
Too bad, have Corrin instead
Toad.
A new Zelda rep should've been a given.
It's way too early, but fuck it: SHE'S IN BROS! Can't wait to hear all the great music she'll bring to the series. Cadence celebration post.
Sales on Nintendo consoles taken into consideration, Dragon Quest.
It's pretty much one of the last 'big time' third parties of the NES and it also happens to be the biggest one, outright being only second to Mario when it comes to the sales of NES games.
>Considered for Smash 4
>Even got a Mii costume
>No new Namco rep when every other third party aside from SE has multiple reps
Would have been cool
He's already confirmed though
>Erdrick
Dixie Kong. I legitimately didn't think Sakurai would listen to fans, and instead would pick the next most popular kong to be playable, Dixie Kong.
Instead of reposting this over and over, could you provide one proof of what I have said is incorrect?
I don't think so. Smash has been becoming more and more western, if Erdrick gets in it will be to stop the Japanese fans from criticizing that.
Chrom got in because of Nips
>It was a brand new Nintendo IP that was combat focused and a switch rep
If anything he WOULD be in if the plans hadn't been solidified in 2015
Same reason mario has no new obligatory odessy move, and just a cappy taunt
Except him to get MAC'ed by next smash
Crash and Banjo
Bullshit, nips aren't as obsessed with Awakening as the west.
Isaac, definitely.
Also Decidueye. I really didn't think we would get yet another fire character.
Shadow as an echo
Mrs. Pacman as an alt
Bandana dee
Dixie Kong
Octolings as echos
Springman
Krystal
Shadow was the biggest shock. He seemed like a shoein for an echo
Shadow felt as obvious as Ken.
Isaac :(
Agreed.I want a DQ character as dlc just because the roster would feel incomplete otherwise.
Isaac
Uhm sweetie, we are still missing many memorable NES third parties like Ryu Hayabusa, Goemon, Billy and Jimmy Lee, Bill Rizer, Kunio-kun and a ton more.
Greninja was in 4 and xy wasnt even 1 tear old
Isaac and Skull Kid are probably the only ones that REALLY had a shot
>Kunio Kun
>Bill Rizer
based, but DQ is still a glaring omission
yes
yes
who and who
who
who
and who more?
Rayman, if only because he was a trophy in Smash 4, and now a spirit in ultimate.
Why will no one tell Sakurai that the player base doesn’t agree with him on Assist Trophies? They’re seen as a horrible thing, not a pity thing.
Thank God we didn't get this and Rex. Awful fucking shit.
Honestly, I sometimes forget Springman is an Assist Trophy just because he never seems to spawn in when I have items on. Is this unique to me, or is he actually a notably less common summon?
Bimmy confirmed for DLC
Physical assists just seem to spawn less often in general
Some assist trophies get disabled on certain stages, but I'm pretty sure Spring Man isn't one of them.
If there was ever any chance of a Switch character getting in, its game really needed to have already been in development at least during 2015/2016, if not earlier and the character already established.
I feel like they're gonna leave Switch reps, if any, for DLC instead and even then, it feels like they've excluded most of the picks. Although I know for sure they must've cleared path for at least someone and made it blatant to reinforce those who were left unpicked as Spirits. If there is indeed a Switch rep, it could even be for a franchise that originally helped Nintendo back in the days or plainly a character they show favoritism due to any attention it may have garnered until now.
Based Ken deserved to get in before Shit-li
> Devil can't be summoned in 63 of the 108 stages
Why even bring him back then?
Not to say the characters you listed would be bad additions, but Dragon Quest has been far more prolific than any of their franchises.
As someone who wanted Shadow and Bomberman in, ATs are not that bad.
No one complained when Thor and Arthur were assists in MvC1.
If the Smash team REALLY wanted a playable Shadow they would still make him.
Dixie Kong feels like glaring omission.
Isaac, Bomberman, warrior of Light, Kos-mos and Heihachi
seriously they had a costume for Heihachi, they could have at least made him an assist trophy
He's a shillmon, they have a slot reserved for them
This, I really thought he had a good chance because of the collaborations with Ubisoft but I was wrong again
I wish assist trophies served as an alternate mechanic instead of just random items. I remember someone suggesting to make assist trophies something assists in 2D fighters that could be used in a separate gamemode.
Octoling echo fighter
Smash is probably the most overrated nintendo series though, so I don't mind
Maybe if you look at it solely from the perspective of "was in a big game" but nobody is really super excited about the idea of playing as Dixie. Hell nobody even plays as Diddy unless he's stupidly top tier, he's one of the least common characters online and is a pretty solid character.
Splatoon is more.
Shadow
Banjo
Isaac
Geno
All. Other pics are autism pics.
Makes more sense than Piranha Plant.
simon belmont
>Geno
>not autism
Geno fans are the most delusional fucks on the planet.
Read the thread tard
smash is just successful because of artificial hype
it's fun with friends, but so is anything
t. Miyamoto
Retro Nintendo IP character like Takamaru or Excitebiker
Spring Man
Ribbon Girl (echo)
Octoling (echo)
Shadow (echo)
Dixie Kong (Isabelle style semi-clone)
Steve from the Minecraft series.
based and stevepilled
I haven't honestly played Minecraft in years but people are fools if they're saying it doesn't deserve a place in a game that celebrates video game history as a whole. Further so if they're saying there's no way you couldn't make a good moveset out of it, there's literally so much shit you could do for a minecraft character.
Spring Man
Ashley
Waluigi
Dr. Robotnik/Eggman
Honestly Spring Man, Bomberman, a retro rep (unless Simon counts). Eggman or Wily as bosses in Classic/World of Light.
Who?
I always play as toad when he's available.
Wish they had toad.
At least I have treasure Tracker
Sans
You have to consider Akira went from being a Mii costume to an assist so Heihachi for potential DLC is possible.
>a dead IP
i mean, Sonic having only 1 rep for all these years seems strange
Shadow the Hedgehog.
Takamaru
Captain Toad
Shadow. I thought there would have been a lot more echoes with the way they announced them but turns out it was just a way to make quick clones without any fan backlash.
ANY new Xenoblade rep.
Had it been from X or 2, either is fine
I feel blueballed knowing that it almost happened
I hate Sonic fags so fucking much.
Megaman did more for Nintendo back in the days and he only has just one rep as well.
>But sonic was in Brawl
Snake only got a rep too.
