The YM2612 has the following features:
- Six FM voices
- Four operators per channel
- Two interval timers
- A sine-wave low frequency oscillator
- Integrated stereo output digital-to-analog converter
- Per-channel programmable stereo sound
- For channel three, operator frequencies can be set independently, making dissonant harmonics possible.
it only gets worse, listen to the sega 32x doom port
I think it was hit and miss.
Underrated OST is the one from Devilish/Bad Omen.

there are good genesis soundtracks. youtube.com
> Genesis
It's called Mega Drive you dumb Amerifat
It was great, just too many shit """musicians""" in the west.
i heard it actually was pretty decent but nobody knew how to use the fucking thing properly
can't remember where i heard it though
I like these threads, keep it up OP
youtu.be
Sonic is the best example of knowing how to use it.
It's not as flexible as the SNES, but it can do great stuff of its own sort.
A real shame Tim Follin didn't get to do more on it.
why this thread is posted everyday with a different console
...
Insane
These sound dope. OP is objectively wrong.
>genesis
old-timers should stay in your containment board
Stop being a stick in the mud sonyfag. Post music and talk about it.
youtube.com
this was genesis
It's not containment, it's just a respite. All /vr/ topics are also Yea Forums topics. /vr/ is just there for people who actually want to talk about video games.

The whole game has a great soundtrack
Blame GEMS and people who didn't know how to use it in the West
sounds like my arse after a curry
youtube.com
better get those ears checked, op
It didn't. You just have shit taste.
youtu.be
A lot of people didn't know how to use to the chip to their advantage, and even worse, a lot of people used GEMS, a general music program that would let them easily get shit together for the Genesis but resulted in a hell of a lot of the twangier games.
The cover art was kino
Also a lot of ports from SNES didn't sound as good

What model of the genesis should I buy if I were to get one? I read that there are different versions/variations
Soccer.
Color.
Aluminum.
Getting nervous yet?
Definitely not a Genesis 3. I found out the hard way that it doesn't support Lock-On functionality, since it was made for cheap.

I wish I could appreciate shootemup games, the OSTs are always banging

Mega Sg if you got the bucks
Does that mean 32X/CD, or Sonic 3 & Knuckles?
the latter, though I wouldn't be surprised if it's also not add-on compatible
The Megadrive hade more "punch" in the sounds.
OP is bait, but if anyone hasn't heard the legendarily bad Sonic Eraser soundtrack, please crank your volume and follow the link below

Genesis's sound chip was already 2 years outdated when it came out, and a budget solution to audio designed to do the bare minimum.
This, paired with the GOD AWFUL internal 9-bit DAC which distorted the shit out of audio meant that it was a beast to work with, requiring composers to work with the distortion and ladder effect for music.
GEMS didn't help with this at all, either.
Meanwhile, the SNES had a bleeding-edge audio solution, surpassed only by the Roland SC-55.
the GEMS was a necessary evil for many western developers. I really doubt SEGA of Japan gave them the necessary documents for making something good with the console
neither, although you can mod the G3 to work with the 32X and the Master System converter
just get a 1 or 2 if you're interested in it for retro purposes
>technobabble
That's all well and good, but The Megadrive still sounded better than the SNES.
no it doesn't, in retospect we can say that Megadrive's music at least has personality, especially compared to the muffled samples from the SNES. But back then, everyones would agree that the SNES sounded better than the Megadrive
Don't disrespect the musifart processor Sega always had
this game had a great overall feel imo.
if you don't mind emulation, a raspi covers all the bases for a good genesis experience.
It really didn't.
You just need to see the Megadrive version of Secret of Mana's soundtrack to see how utterly lacking the sound hardware is.
Genesis version:

Even Atari Jaguar version had better versions
I'm laughing so hard right now.

but specially 1:45:46
Model 2 with the Sony video chip and a Mega-Amp mod to bypass the shitty sound hardware and internal DAC.
Model 1 if you can find them, but they're coveted for having the best audio hardware.
Genesis might be dogshit but with the 32X it's fucking dope, the Chaotix soundtrack is fan-fucking-tastic
sounds the same to me, what am i listening for exactly?
user, that's high quality arrangements of the SNES songs, not literal Genesis chip. Genesis was just a fancy fantasy name they slapped onto the album.

My bad,
I don't have speakers, but I was looking for the MD/GEN versions of the songs done by Alianger, on real hardware.

>seething eurotrash
ok, thats a lot more plain to the ears. never realized as a kid that there was such a difference in the hardware, i just liked playing games
It's called Mega Drive in Japan too, only in North America it's called Genesis. Which means Mega Drive is the official name of the console
this
They had to rename it to Genesis in the US because some company had the rights to "Mega Drive".
>yfw the genesis could do better Mario music than the SNES

Why did the SNES have no BLAST Processing?!?
Checkmate.
Bringing up Follin is cheating, he can make a pc speaker sound like a choir

Better get your ears checked user
i'll never consider Legend of Renegade's stuff as any more than novelty. he's not actually doing stuff like geckoyamori/savaged regime, or other rearrangers out there - he's just taking MIDIs of the songs and putting genesis soundbites from various games to them
yessss one of these threads

You are such a faggot OP I pity you
that shit all sounds out of tune
So OP is telling the this is an awful soundchip?

Because they blew everything on the blast processor
Sonic is fucking mid tier when it comes to the burning power of the Yamaha chip in the Genesis. Konami is king and shows what the system is capable of.
Sonic CD themes still the best in the whole series. Both the Jap and the US songs are nice
friendly reminder that most (if not all) genesis soundtracks on youtube don't sound like it should because the little shits that upload the songs don't use the low-pass filter.
Unless you had a jap one you have no right to call it that you 50hz playing garbage.
Why? Just why?
>sequenced music
What does that mean? And why is it a big deal it's sequenced?
post brapcore
It means it's music made from samples strung together to form a complete piece. The SNES and Sega CD both made use of it but the Sega CD's sound chip was so sophisticated that everyone assumed it was just regular redbook audio.

Nah, western devs were just using shitty drivers.
>everyone assumed it was just regular redbook audio.
because it was. at least in all the sega cd games I've played.
Each and every past theme in Sonic CD is sequenced.
Find me a single comparable game soundtrack on SNES to Batman and Robin for Genesis:
Thoughts on Skeleton Krew's distinctive sound?
Same composer as most of the Hitman series up until Absolution, too. Dude could make fucking rave music with this chip.
oh, right. forgot about that.
they used high quality samples thanks to the power of the cd.
but it isn't as impressive if you think that the snes chip can do the same, the only problem is cartridge limited space.
We had a similar thread yesterday with the same picture but edited, I see what you're doing OP. Don't stop.

and then a fan rearrangement within technical limitations by geckoyamori under his newer youtube alias

JVC X’Eye if you’re an autist and have money. It has the cleanest RGB, the best sound, a built-in Sega CD, and is one if the easiest Genesis SKUs to maintain.
Best normie Genesis would be the “High Definition Graphics” Model 1s.
>Genesis: 19 million
>European Mega Drive: 9 million
>Japanese Mega Drive: 3.58 million
