This. Making a video game at the scale of even a SNES or GBA game takes years if you're working alone and just doing an hour or so each night. To make an N64 tier game would several years and most people don't have the dedication to keep up interest in a project for more than a couple months at most.

To be fair if you're just copying over an existing game modern engines like unity would make it very doable for a one man team, definitely not in the scale of years. Still takes work, and still too much effort for most remake teams of course.

As is true for 99% of fangames, these people are only in it for the attention and heavily shill their project only for it to be taken down by the company, thus giving them more attention. If they actually cared about putting the game out, they'd stay quiet until they could leak it on the internet. AM2R was in a weird spot because of the state of the Metroid series, and so it got a bunch of attention right away. Thankfully it had enough time to get out. But other shit like the Chrono Trigger remake and Mother 4 are fucked. At least the Mother 1 Remake is staying very quiet.
