Zigzagoon is the patrician choice for a starter, Mankey/Nidoran are the best choice for Gen 1, and in Gen 2 you have all sorts of shit to choose from, Donphan, Heracross, Dunsparce, or you could even get a Tyrogue from that lucky egg.
